A simple guide on how to check your credit score in the UAE
Whether you're dreaming of a new apartment, planning a loan, or just curious about your financial health, your credit score is the number that can open or close doors. Luckily, checking it in the UAE is quick, easy, and costs just Dhs10.50. Here's how to find out where you stand and take control of your financial future. But first… What is a credit score It's a number that shows how reliable you are with money. It's based on your past borrowing, bill payments, and overall financial habits. Lenders use it to decide whether to approve applications. Why it matters Your credit score is like your financial report card. The higher it is, the easier it becomes to get loans, credit cards, mortgages, or even rent a home. A strong score can also help you lock in lower interest rates. On the flip side, missed or late payments, whether on your credit card, personal loan, utility bill, or postpaid mobile plan, can hurt your score. Even forgetting to pay rent or close an old bank account can leave a lasting mark. *UAE banks will stop sending OTPs via SMS* How to check your score online The UAE's Al Etihad Credit Bureau (AECB) is the official place to get your score. Here's how to do it: Go to or download the AECB app. Log in with UAE Pass or sign up using your Emirates ID, phone number, and email. Verify with the OTP sent to your phone. Choose 'Credit Score Report'. Pay the fee of Dhs10.50 for the score only, or Dhs84 for the full report (VAT included). Get your score instantly in PDF format. Check through your bank Some UAE banks also let you see your score for free (or a small fee) through their apps, including: Emirates NBD Mashreq ADCB RAKBANK Apps TAMM: Log in with UAE Pass and access your score. DubaiNow: Download the DubaiNow app, sign in with UAE Pass, and you can get your credit score instantly. The bottom line Your credit score isn't just a number; it's a ticket to better financial opportunities. Keep it healthy by paying bills on time, avoiding unnecessary debt, and checking it regularly. Applications require a copy of the lost, damaged or expired passport, a police report (for loss), and a personal photo; additional documents apply for newborns. MOFA urges travellers to register in the 'Twajudi' service, keep copies of IDs, monitor security updates, and avoid risky areas to ensure a safe trip abroad. Service details: How to obtain a return document UAE nationals facing passport issues abroad can submit an application electronically through MOFA's official website or the UAE MOFA mobile app. This process leverages UAE Pass for secure login and auto-fills personal information to simplify submissions. Keep document copies: Always carry both physical and digital copies of your passport, Emirates ID, visas, and travel bookings to expedite procedures if your passport is lost or damaged. Check security updates: Monitor the latest travel advisories for your destination and avoid regions with unrest or conflict. Carry valid visas and insurance: Ensure all travel documents and insurance policies are current and sufficient for medical emergencies abroad. Following these measures can greatly reduce travel disruptions and facilitate quick assistance from UAE authorities if problems arise. The MOFA's new streamlined Return Document service significantly eases the travel challenges UAE citizens face when losing or damaging their passports abroad. 5 things you need to know about Dubai's Accident Free Day 2025
The Ministry of the Interior has announced the return of Accident Free Day in the United Arab Emirates. The annual event aims to encourage road safety in Dubai and the other emirates ahead of the start of the school year. It's an initiative that sees those taking part get four black points removed from their licence. What is Accident Free Day? Accident Free Day is a national initiative which promotes safe driving, reinforces traffic rules and raise awareness. As part of Accident Free Day in the UAE, drivers are offered the chance to get four black points deducted from their driving licence if they agree to a pledge. The pledge reinforces basic traffic rules and, if you stick to it when Accident Free Day comes around, you'll get four points off your licence. In previous years, Dubai Police has said that the initiative has led to a remarkable decrease in traffic accidents and it's hoped that 2025 will see more of the same. You'll only get points deducted if they are already on your licence. So, if you have zero points, you can't then be on minus four points after Accident Free Day. When is Accident Free Day? Accident Free Day is held on the first day of the academic calendar, and that means that this year's event will arrive on Monday August 25. While the event itself is on Monday August 25, you have to sign up before that to make sure that you're taking part. Who's eligible and how do I sign up? To sign up you'll need to head to the Ministry of the Interior website here and sign in with your UAE Pass. Once you've signed in, you'll be asked to agree to the Accident Free Day pledge. Tick the box underneath the pledge to agree to the terms. An email confirmation will then be sent to the address you signed up for the UAE Pass with. You will then receive a certificate of participation in recognition of the part you'll play in Accident Free Day. What are the rules? The rules for Accident Free Day relate to the pledge that participants need to sign ahead of time. The pledge is extremely straightforward; it says: I will maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front of me I will yield to pedestrians at crossings I will always wear my seatbelt I will adhere to the speed limits I will not use a handheld mobile phone while driving I will give way to emergency vehicles, police, public service vehicles, and official convoys Stick to these rules on the day and you'll get four black points deducted. When do I get 4 points deducted? If you've signed up to the pledge and stuck to the conditions on Accident Free Day then you can expect the points to be deducted from your licence on Monday September 15. The points will be deducted automatically and electronically. UAE: Students must confirm university admissions and scholarships offers by August 11
Students should use UAE Pass to access the Ministry's portal, complete all admission steps, and meet the August 11 deadline/ Image: MoHESR The UAE's Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has set August 11, 2025, as the final deadline for students to confirm university admissions and scholarships for the 2025–2026 academic year. Alongside this, the Ministry has introduced a new unified academic calendar for all public and private universities, standardizing key term dates and holidays across the country to better support student wellbeing and family life. August 11- final deadline for admission and scholarship confirmations The UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MoHESR) has set August 11, 2025, as the final deadline for students to confirm or decline university admission and scholarship offers for the Fall 2025–2026 academic year. This deadline applies to: Students applying to UAE-based higher education institutions Students who have received offers for government-funded scholarships abroad All students must complete and submit their final confirmations through the Ministry's electronic portal by this date. Along with acceptance or rejection of offers, applicants are also required to complete all remaining administrative procedures to avoid delays or disruptions in the application process. The Ministry has urged students to log in using their UAE Pass, access the 'Student and Scholarship Registration' service on its website, regularly check their application status for updates, and complete any additional requirements issued by their institutions without delay. Failure to meet the August 11 deadline could jeopardize admission status or scholarship placement for the 2025–2026 academic year. Streamlined student services to simplify the application process As part of its ongoing digital transformation, MoHESR has optimized the application process to be more user-friendly and efficient. Key improvements include: Reduced application time to just 90 seconds 86% reduction in the number of documents required Access to 59 higher education institutions in the UAE through a single platform These enhancements are designed to make the system more accessible for students, increase processing speed, and minimize bureaucracy, especially for those applying to multiple institutions or for competitive scholarship programmes. The Ministry emphasized the importance of meeting all procedural steps on time, particularly for those seeking scholarships abroad, noting that processing setbacks could affect placement and enrolment for the upcoming academic year. New university calendar for 2025–2026 As part of its wider education reform agenda, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has introduced a unified academic calendar for the 2025–2026 academic year, applying to all public and private higher education institutions (HEIs) across the UAE. Approved by the Education, Human Development and Community Development Council, the revised framework standardizes term schedules and aligns university holidays with the national school calendar to support family cohesion, reduce academic stress, and promote students' mental and emotional wellbeing. Key dates under the new academic calendar: Academic Year Begins: Monday, 25 August 2025 Winter Break: 8 December 2025 – 4 January 2026 (4 weeks) Classes Resume After Winter Break: 5 January 2026 Spring Break: 16 – 29 March 2026 (2 weeks) Classes Resume After Spring Break: 30 March 2026 Academic Year Ends: 3 July 2026 While the calendar introduces a unified national structure, the Ministry has also built in limited flexibility for institutions to accommodate variations in program design. Universities may adjust the start and end dates of their academic year to align with specific academic programmes or summer semester needs. Similarly, holiday breaks may shift by up to one week earlier or later, as long as the overall duration of each break remains unchanged. All HEIs, whether local or international, are expected to comply with the unified calendar. However, international branch campuses operating in the UAE may be granted exemptions if they follow the academic schedules of their home-country systems. The calendar revision is part of a broader national strategy to align higher education with development priorities, student wellbeing, and evolving social needs. The Ministry stated that the changes reflect its commitment to creating a more student-centered, flexible, and family-oriented academic environment, particularly significant as the UAE marks the 2025–2026 academic year as the official 'Year of Community. ' For More Information All relevant updates, procedures, and services can be accessed through the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research's official website. Students are encouraged to stay informed, act within deadlines, and use the available smart services to ensure successful enrolment and scholarship processing.
