UFC on ESPN 66: Garry vs. Prates odds, picks and predictions
UFC on ESPN 66: Garry vs. Prates odds, picks and predictions In a 5-round welterweight bout in the main event, Ian Machado Garry and Carlos Prates meet Saturday at UFC on ESPN 66. The bout takes place at T-Mobile Center in Kansas City with the main event expected to take start at approximately 11:50 p.m. ET (ESPN2 / ESPN+). Let's analyze BetMGM Sportsbook's UFC odds around the UFC on ESPN 66: Garry vs. Prates odds, and make our expert UFC picks and predictions. Records: Machado Garry (15-1) | Prates (21-6) Garry is looking to rebound after a unanimous-decision loss to Shavkat Rakhmonov at UFC 310 in early December. That setback splashed cold water on what had been a perfect start with the company, going 8-0 across his first 8 UFC bouts. He has gone the distance in 6 of those 8 outings, including in each of the previous 4 bouts. Prates has been flying up the rankings in the UFC, knocking out all comers. He has made 4 appearances at the UFC level following a fight in Dana White's Contender Series in August 2023. He won all 5 of those bouts by way of KO/TKO. In fact, he has 10 consecutive wins via the method since Dec. 18, 2021, including a win in a championship bout against Charles de Oliveira Santos at the Standout Fighting Tournament 37 in September 2022. Among his 4 fights, Prates has recorded knockouts against UFC veterans Trevin Giles (February 2024), Li Jingliang (August 2024) and, most recently, Neil Magny in the main event of a UFC Fight Night 247 in early November. Prates has a 3.5-inch advantage, while Garry has a slight 4.72-to-4.39 advantage in the significant strikes landed per minute category. He is also a little more accurate on those strikes at 59.45%, while the Brazilian fighter checks in at 57.63%. Watch this card with ESPN+ by signing up here. UFC on ESPN 66: Garry vs. Prates odds Provided by BetMGM Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated at 5:22 p.m. ET. Fight result (2-way line) : Garry -175 (bet $175 to win $100) | Prates +145 (bet $100 to win $145) : Garry -175 (bet $175 to win $100) | Prates +145 (bet $100 to win $145) Over/Under : 3.5 rounds (Over -120 | Under -110) : 3.5 rounds (Over -120 | Under -110) Will the fight go the distance? (Yes +150 | No -210) UFC on ESPN 66: Garry vs. Prates picks and predictions PRATES (+145) has been a knockout machine, and he should be able to get the job done Saturday in Kansas City even against an experienced up-and-comer. The Brazilian will look to use a 3.5-inch advantage to keep the Irish fighter at a distance, when needed. The switch stance fighter has managed to knock out some of the best in the division, including the veteran Magny last time out. Garry is a tough and calculating fighter, who won't be caught off guard. He knows how to wow the judges, so the more raw challenger will likely need the finish to get the win. It is expected Prates will do just that, as the KO/TKO is his calling card. PLAY PRATES BY KO/TKO OR DQ (+200) -- EXACT OUTCOME -- for the chance to double up if you're a little more on the adventurous side. Play our free daily Pick'em Challenge and win! Play now! The longer this fight goes, the better news it is for Garry. If you like Prates to win, which we do, we'll be looking for the finish. UNDER 3.5 ROUNDS (-110) is a sound play, and a much better option than going with No (-210): Will the fight go the distance? While the latter offers a little more wiggle room, it costs more than 2 times the potential return. There's no value there. Visit MMA Junkie for more fight news and analysis. Ian Machado Garry reacts to short-notice Carlos Prates headliner with excitement
Ian Machado Garry relishes the opportunity to save UFC on ESPN 66. After the original headliner between Jamahal Hill and Khalil Rountree was scrapped due to a Hill injury, the UFC needed a big fight to fill the spot. The promotion ended up with an exciting welterweight matchup between Machado Garry (15-1 MMA, 8-1 UFC) and Carlos Prates (21-6 MMA, 4-0 UFC), which takes place April 26 at T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Mo. Despite not having a fight booked, Machado Garry said he had no hesitation to accept the UFC's call. Meanwhile, Prates was already in camp to fight Geoff Neal at UFC 314 on April 12 before Neal was forced out. 'Right, it's official. You've got a new main event,' Garry said on his Instagram. 'Kansas City, Missouri, me vs. Carlos Prates, April 26, I'm excited. Why? The UFC go, 'Ah, we need someone. Who do we need? Who do we call?' You call me. Why? Because I'm a real fighter who wants to fight the best in the world. 'I'm going to show everybody how good I am. Carlos Prates is awesome, but this is my world. I love to fight. There's nothing more I love in this world than fighting. Kansas City, Missouri, let's go. Ireland, get your tickets, get your flights. Brazil, get your tickets, get your flights.' Machado Garry will look to rebound from his first-career loss, a unanimous decision to Shavkat Rakhmonov at UFC 310 this past December. Surging contender Prates has torn through his competition in the UFC so far, scoring four knockouts and four Performance of the Night bonuses – most recently over Neil Magny in the UFC Fight Night 247 main event in November.
