UMNO Urged to Win Support of Voters Under 40: Shamsul
PERMATANG PAUH: UMNO leadership at the branch and division levels must play a vital role in gaining the support of voters aged under 40 so that the party remains the choice in the upcoming elections, said UMNO Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah. He said this group of voters is highly critical, more open, and dynamic and seeks a party that is genuinely seen as capable of offering the best for their future. 'UMNO division and branch leadership must consider how to ensure UMNO remains as the best party while also projecting a positive image to gain the support of young people,' he said after officiating the 2025 Permatang Pauh Women, Youth, and Puteri delegates' meetings held here today. The Deputy Home Minister said if UMNO succeeds in gaining support from the Malay community and the younger generation, the party could rise again to become the dominant political party in the country. '...it means we have to win many seats. Regarding the distribution of seats and which constituencies to contest in, we leave it to the party leadership,' he said. Shamsul Anuar said UMNO must remain proactive in responding to the people's concerns to stay relevant and be seen as a party that matters. He said UMNO's focus is to prepare the party in all aspects in preparation for the state elections in Sabah, Melaka, and Johor, as well as the next General Election.

UMNO divisions, branches must play pivotal role to win over young voters

Amirudin dismisses speculation of Tengku Zafrul taking over as Selangor MB
Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has dismissed speculation that UMNO Supreme Council member Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz will take over his position. He said that he recently had a friendly exchange with Tengku Zafrul before the latter departed for Mecca. "He asked if I had any doa (prayers) to send with him. I told him, 'Pray that I remain in Selangor',' Amirudin recounted during the Karnival Ceria Selangor at Dataran Ilmu, Selayang. Amirudin, who is also the Selangor PKR chairman, said the speculation was far-fetched due to the complexity of the processes involved within a short timeframe. "In my view, it's a rather long and complicated story. I don't think that the route of Tengku Zafrul contesting for the Mentri Besar post is feasible because it would require a by-election," he said. "We only have about two and a half years left in this term, so there's not much that can be reorganised within that time frame. We'll have to wait and see how things develop,' added Amirudin. He added that there has been no discussion or instruction from party leadership regarding any move for him to transition to the federal level. "I don't believe we'll be holding a by-election just to seek a new mandate and change the Mentri Besar in the final two years of the term," said Amirudin. "We still have two years to go, and there are many other priorities that require our attention. Right now, our focus is on the upcoming Sabah state election and on strengthening the unity government," he added.
