Plenty of opportunities at Johor job fair

JOHOR BARU: With resumes in hand and hope in their hearts, job seekers are making their way to the myStarJob Fair 2025, currently held at Persada International Convention Centre here. The event has attracted a steady stream of visitors eager to explore job opportunities, receive career advice, and access professional development resources since its opening yesterday. The two-day event, which ends today, features 16 companies and agencies representing a diverse range of industries. In addition to job openings from entry-level to managerial positions, the fair also offers on-the-spot interviews, career talks and skills enhancement sessions designed to support personal growth and employment readiness. Among the key exhibitors are Prudential BSN Takaful Bhd, Eco-Shop Marketing Berhad, and UMW Toyota Motor. Prudential BSN Takaful Bhd's recruitment head Ahmad Firdaus Ab Halim urged the public, especially job seekers, to visit its booth to learn more about the takaful industry. 'We are always looking for takaful consultants, and we have a support programme called the Elite Development Programme (EDP), which is designed to develop and groom young, emerging talents to succeed as wealth planners and future leaders, regardless of their background. It is open to those aged between 20 and 55. 'Our consultants can benefit from monthly financing between RM2,000 and RM5,000, as well as other rewards, including overseas trips to destinations such as Zurich, Istanbul, Surabaya and even for Umrah,' he said, adding that the minimum educational requirement is a SPM certificate. As a Platinum Sponsor of the event, Prudential BSN was presented with a certificate of recognition by Star Media Group senior manager (events and exhibitions) Elaine Wong. Hopeful possibilities: Job seekers making inquiries during the myStarJob Fair 2025 being held at the Persada International Convention Centre in Johor Baru. — THOMAS YONG/The Star Eco-Shop Marketing Berhad was also acknowledged as the event's Bronze Sponsor, with the certificate received on behalf of the company by its staffing solutions manager, Natalie Lim. Lim said the myStarJob Fair 2025 was the company's first participation in a job fair held in Johor Baru, a city that has seen strong economic growth in recent years. 'As a public-listed company, our target is to open 70 stores annually, and I would say that Johor Baru is one of the key areas we are looking to expand into. 'Currently, we have a total of 378 stores nationwide with almost 9,000 employees. As we plan to open more stores, we need more people to join our workforce.' Another exhibitor, Prasarana Malaysia Bhd, has also drawn attention from visitors. Its engineering department assistant engineer, Muhammad Mirzan Ruzi, said the company has received a positive response from candidates at the fair. 'We are seeing interest from job seekers who want to join us, as we are looking for more manpower for the Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link project. 'The chances for job seekers, particularly locals, are quite high as we have many positions to fill for the RTS Link project, which connects Johor Baru and Singapore,' he added. Meanwhile, Mohd Rifqi Hanafi Mohd Shah, 31, said he learned about the myStarJob Fair 2025 through social media and is hopeful about finding employment. 'I was laid off in early May this year. I decided to come to the myStarJob Fair 2025 to submit my resume to companies. Technician Mohd Mukhriz Azamuddin Husni, 29, who has been working with an engineering company in Pasir Gudang for the past five years, is also exploring new opportunities. 'One of the exhibitors at the fair is a Singapore-based oil and gas company. I want to submit my resume and hopefully get an offer. 'Due to the favourable currency exchange, working across the Causeway is attractive for me, especially as I have a growing family,' he said. Organised by Star Media Group, admission to the event is free from 11am to 6pm.

Vios Challenge turns up heat in Sepang

A single one-hour race marked a monumental milestone for the 2025 Vios Challenge, which made its international debut at the Malaysian round of the Autobacs Super GT. Departing from its usual 10-lap sprint format on a shortened circuit, Round 2 saw all 36 drivers across three classes start together on the full 5.543 km length of the iconic Petronas Sepang International Circuit, doubling the challenge for every competitor. Adding to the international flair, the grid featured racers from Thailand, Singapore and India. The Vios Challenge was made even more special with UMW Toyota Motor and Toyota Gazoo Racing Malaysia's title sponsorship of the Malaysian round of the Super GT series. In the Super Sporting Class for professionals, Laser Motor Racing's Eddie Lew jumped into an early lead as soon as the race got underway, getting ahead of Wheelcorp's Nabil Azlan. Pole sitter and Laser Motor Racing's second driver Ady Rahimy Rashid dropped seven places into eighth position. Nabil, however, punched into the lead by the third lap with Telagamas Toyota's Freddie Ang moving into second position as Lew also dropped into third by the halfway mark of the race. In the end, it was Ang who claimed the chequered flag ahead of Nabil with Toyotsu Racing's William Ho a further 18 seconds behind in third place. "The initial plan was to attack in the second half of the race but as things unfolded in the race, it went from this to getting to the front and trying to pull away. "In a one-hour race it is extremely challenging and it is critical to manage both the car and tyres," said Ang, who finished the 20-lap race a mere 0.7 seconds ahead of Nabil. "He (Nabil) was on my rear bumper the entire time and every time I tried to pull away he was right there with me. I couldn't do anything more and so I settled for being defensive and trying to just stay ahead. "To be honest it was very taxing on the body, especially with the heat. We are all so used to the sprint race and therefore the second 30-minute stint this weekend really had you feeling body fatigue…it was extremely hot." The Sporting Class for amateurs, meanwhile, was dominated by Hong Huat & Armada KK Racing's Jwan Hii who delivered a dominant drive to finish eight seconds ahead of Kulim Top Wheels' Datuk Dr Ken Foo. In third place was Thai driver Varunchit Wattanathanakun representing RUK Team Nexzter PMC 52. The race was essentially Hii's from start to finish as he dominated from pole position to post the fastest lap time of 2 min: 52.409 seconds. Down the field in the Rookie Class, drama unfolded in the penultimate stages of the race as Aydan Khaliq took victory ahead of Rahul Dev, with Harkiesh Geeva in third position. Harkiesh and Aydan had been trading places for the race lead and with several minutes left to the finish, the former had been poised for what appeared to be certain victory until a mechanical problem denied him of the top spot on the podium. "To be honest, I was very fortunate to finish where I did after Harkiesh lost his third gear despite leading the race for quite a fair bit. But that is part and parcel of racing," said Aydan. "Racing on the full track was also a bit more tiring…Mentally I was fit enough but after competing in the GR86 Cup Malaysia race I practically had to rush to the starting grid for the Vios Challenge. "Nevertheless, competing on a Super GT race week is excellent exposure not only for me as a rookie but the entire Vios Challenge series as it projects local talent and racing internationally," he added.

Get on your marks, fam! UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) has announced the return of the Toyota Start Your Impossible (SYI) Outrun 2025, an inclusive charity run that goes beyond physical fitness to celebrate human resilience, unity, and compassion. Set for Sunday, 27th July 2025, at Dataran Wawasan, Putrajaya, the event continues to shape lives and inspire progress under Toyota's global Start Your Impossible initiative. SYI Outrun is a key part of Toyota's global Start Your Impossible campaign, a movement initiated by Toyota Motor Corporation to mark its transition from an automotive company to a mobility company — one that enables freedom of movement for all. UMWT adopted this campaign in Malaysia to reinforce its commitment to social responsibility and to strengthen its position as a leader in innovative mobility solutions. More than a run, the Toyota SYI Outrun 2025 reflects the brand's belief that movement whether physical, emotional, or social — can drive change. As part of Toyota's global initiative, this event inspires individuals to overcome barriers, support one another, and move toward a better, more inclusive tomorrow. The Outrun reflects our belief that movement can lead to connection, healing, and change,' said Datuk Ravindran K., President of UMW Toyota Motor. It's a powerful step forward for the event, one that celebrates endurance, determination, and community spirit. The Outrun brings people together across communities, uniting personal goals with a greater purpose. That's what Start Your Impossible is truly about' Since it was first introduced in 2019, the Outrun has raised over half a million ringgit for causes championing accessibility and wellness, including the Paralympic Council of Malaysia and the National Cancer Society Malaysia (NCSM). The 2025 edition continues this legacy by focusing its support on Malaysians affected by cancer, while fostering an environment of strength, support, and community. Participants can register for one of three categories designed to cater to all levels of runners: 5KM Fun Run: A non-competitive, family-friendly run open to participants aged 5 and above 10KM Competitive Run: Open to various age groups and categories 21KM Half Marathon: Introduced for the first time ever in 2025, this new category challenges seasoned runners to push their limits and marks a bold new chapter in the Outrun's evolution The debut of the 21KM Half Marathon underscores the Outrun's growth as a platform not only for health and inclusivity but also for personal breakthroughs and athletic aspiration. It represents Toyota's drive to go further, enabling individuals to start their impossible and test their endurance in a meaningful way. Each competitive category includes divisions such as Men's Open, Women's Open, Veterans, and Malaysia-specific classes, encouraging diversity and inclusivity across all races. A record-breaking RM138,000 prize pool awaits the top 10 finishers in both the 10KM and 21KM runs, Toyota's way of honoring both competitive spirit and community engagement.
