Assam will have 29 medical colleges by 2030: CM
Guwahati, June 18 (UNI) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today said that the government is working on a roadmap of setting up 29 medical colleges by 2030 in the state. These medical colleges will go a long way in addressing the demand-supply mismatch of doctors in the state, enabling the government to send more doctors to villages and remote areas, making health care facilities more accessible and accountable. The Chief Minister said this while presenting appointment letters to 400 Medical and Health Officers at a programme held at GMCH auditorium here. He also said that the government has launched a transformative journey in the health sector. "To fulfil the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a total 4962 numbers of Ayushman Arogya Mandirs have been made functional for strengthening comprehensive primary health care in the State," he added. The Chief Minister also said as part of the transformative journey at present 13 Medical College & Hospitals, 22 District Hospitals, 17 Sub Divisional Hospitals, 221 Community Health Centres, 1017 Primary Health Centres and 4875 Sub Centres are functioning in the state with doctors and paramedics to make health care facilities advanced, accessible and accountable. The Chief Minister also said that considering the ever-changing landscape of the health care delivery system and the influence of technology, government is taking steps to make the heath sector more patient friendly and technology friendly. Sarma said ever since the present dispensation took office, the government has been steadfast in addressing the demand-supply mismatch of doctors. He said it was the triggering factor for the government to increase the number of medical colleges across the state. He said that the 13 medical colleges that are functional at present are producing around 1600 doctors annually. The Chief Minister said his government is taking all possible steps to ensure adequate numbers of doctors, including specialists are placed at Prime Health Centre, Community Health Centres and First Referral Units to provide accessible and equitable health care to all, thereby bringing improvement in the overall health status of the people of the state. Assam's Kamakhya temple readies itself for the annual Ambubachi festival
Guwahati, June 11 (UNI) With the Ambubachi mela nearing, the BJP led government in Assam has made elaborate arrangements to welcome the devotees to the ancient Kamakhya temple located atop the Nilachal Hills here. Known as the Mahakumbh of the East, the Ambubachi festival is a major annual festival of the Kamakhya temple that draws lakhs of devotees from different corners of the state and even from abroad. The Ambubachi festival this year begins on June 22 and will end on June 26. The temple authority will close the main door of the sanctum sanctorum of the temple from June 22 to lock the Mother Goddess in for her annual menstrual period. The temple will reopen on June 26 morning and the lakhs of devotees will be allowed to visit and worship the mother Goddess. During this period, the Hindus do not worship and farmers do not plough their land. Assam tourism minister Ranjit Kumar Dass recently reviewed the preparedness of the district administration for the festival with all the departments and said that adequate measures have been taken to ensure the festival is celebrated without creating inconvenience for anyone. "We have decided certain things this year. There will be no arrangements for VIP passes this year during the Ambubachi festival. Whoever comes to the temple during the festival will be considered a VIP and hence we have decided to do away with the system of VIP passes," said Dass. He also informed that as per the request of the temple authority, it was decided that the entry to the temple will be restricted after 7 am. "Whoever wants to come to the temple has to enter before 7 am. We are also arranging that everyone will leave the temple after 8.30 pm. This is being done to avoid chaos and ensure that the festival passes of smoothly," he said. It may be mentioned here that the district administration has already taken steps to put up camps in the Kamakhya temple premises to house the devotees. UNI ANP SSP
