Flight attendant sparks fury after calling security on disabled passenger who she refused to help

A cold-hearted United Airlines flight attendant has sparked outrage after she allegedly refused to help a disabled woman before trying to get her kicked off the flight. On Monday, a distraught witness shared a Reddit post about an elderly passenger being tormented by a 'super defensive and aggressive' flight staffer. The vulnerable woman was a first-class passenger sitting at the plane's bulkhead, where this is no storage underneath the seats. Only carrying a tiny purse and a foldable walking cane, she kindly asked the flight attendant to help her move her items to the overhead storage area. The harmless interaction quickly turned sour when the attendant allegedly lashed out on the woman for her simple request. The employee allegedly shouted: 'ABSOLUTELY NOT, I CANNOT DO THAT DUE TO UNION REGULATIONS, WHAT IF I GET INJURED, MA'AM, MAAAAAAM!!!' Maintaining her composure, the passenger said she is a frequent flier and has never been denied help from a staff member. She went on to explain she was only asking because she is disabled and could not get to the overhead bin on her own, according to the social media post. While flight attendant continued throwing a fit in the middle of the aisle - calling the woman 'unreasonable' - a bystander took matters into his own hands, helping the shell-shocked passenger himself. 'The [flight attendant] then angrily slammed the bins closed and stomped back to her jump seat,' the Redditor explained. With all the bins closed and everyone seated, the aircraft taxied away from the gate and was ready to take off - but the drama was far from over. The pilot made an intercom announcement saying 'there had been an incident and we're heading back to the gate,' according to the post. After returning to the gate, security guards reportedly approached the helpless passenger, telling her the flight attendant was uncomfortable because she was 'talking down' to her. 'Everyone around was stunned - it was exactly the opposite (the FA was the one who was being aggressive and yelling at this poor old lady),' the Reddit witness reacted. Video shared alongside the Reddit post showed the woman speaking with security, although it is unclear what they were saying. The guards soon realized the woman was clearly no threat to anyone on the plane, allowing the aircraft to pull away from the gate for a second time. Just as they were taking off, the rude flight attendant made the safety announcement in an 'eerie, overly cheerful, almost sociopathic-sounding voice I've ever heard,' according to the Reddit post. 'Honestly, I feel so bad for the disabled lady. It was heartbreaking to watch someone who just needed a little help get treated like that,' the fellow passenger continued. 'Even if the [flight attendant] can't do it, she could've calmly said 'I'm so sorry, I'm not allowed to do it, maybe someone else can assist' rather than get super [aggravated] and call security.' The user's testimony garnered more than 8,800 reactions and more than 1,100 comments from people left absolutely stunned by the brazen flight attendant's alleged behavior. 'This employee needs to be removed from service, one commenter wrote. 'Being abusive under the cloak of authority is one of the worst traits in a human. Doubly so when done against a handicapped and elderly person.' Another person claimed the attendant was on a 'power trip,' while several others urged the witness to report the situation to the airline. 'I'm sure you could file an anonymous report. Flight attendants like that don't deserve their jobs,' someone suggested. Many users urged the anonymous witness to report the incident they shared online 'I've literally never seen [a flight attendant] not help in this exact situation,' one baffled Reddit user chimed in. Others attacked the flight attendant's character, calling her a 'complete psycho of a human being' and 'unhinged.'

Enter Email Sign Up The current vacant lot at 327 Elmwood Ave. in Providence, R.I., was once the site of the Peter Pan Diner in the 1960s. UNION The nearly 9,500-square-foot lot has been vacant for years, but has a storied past. In 1953, the Peter Pan Diner opened as an the spot 'New England's Most Beautiful Diner-Restaurant,' and had bright white neon lights that reflected off of the silver plating that wrapped around the business. Advertisement The restaurant also drew characters: The late Frank L. Marrapese Jr., also known as 'Bobo,' was a powerful enforcer for New England crime boss In 1971, the diner was bought at auction and relocated to state-owned land in Galilee, a fishing village in Narragansett. The owner at the time wanted to reopen the diner, which would have required a zoning change with the town. Questions swirled over who permitted the relocation, and over the legality of keeping it on the state-owned land. The matter spurred council and court hearings. Vandals smashed its windows to get inside. A newspaper clipping in 1972 about the former Peter Pan Diner, which at the time was located on a potato farm in Exeter, R.I. Courtesy of Providence Public Library Eventually, the state paid H. Winfield Tucker $1 to store the controversial diner on his potato farm in Exeter, according to the Providence Journal's archives. At that point, the diner was already worthless. A tax assessor in 1972 said it was worth the 'junk price of $2,500.' The diner sat there for years, but it's unclear what happened to the diner's remains. Linda Tucker, H. Winfield Tucker's daughter, hung up on a Globe reporter when seeking information. H. Winfield Tucker's grandson, Dawson Hodgson, who is now the president After the diner vacated Providence, the Elmwood Avenue plot became a Sunoco service gas station. Sometime afterward, Johnson & Wales University purchased the land, but in 2006, the college transferred the property to the Providence Redevelopment Agency. Advertisement On the West Side, the vacant plot of land at 327 Elmwood Ave. in Providence, R.I., is expected to become a mixed-use building with 44 apartment units. UNION The land was assessed last year for $200,200. In February 2024, the city requested bids for interested buyers to redevelop the property, which is how Women's Development Corporation took control over the property. Ten units will be built on each of the second through fifth stories. The units will be a mix of studios and one- and two-bedroom apartments, according to blueprints. There is not expected to be any parking for cars, but the developer will create space for bicycles. The construction timeline is not clear. Ellen Quinn, the group's asset manager, could not be immediately reached for comment on Tuesday evening. Alexa Gagosz can be reached at

UNION therapeutics announces presentation of preliminary data from Phase 2a investigator-initiated study with orismilast in ulcerative colitis at the 20th ECCO Congress

Poster presentation of preliminary data from the Phase 2a investigator-initiated study UCORIS in ulcerative colitis (UC) at the 20th ECCO Congress UC is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease that causes inflammation and ulcers (sores) in the lower digestive tract with limited efficacious treatment options available Orismilast is a high-potency PDE4B/D inhibitor with broad anti-inflammatory properties in development for oral treatment of inflammatory diseases, including hidradenitis suppurative (HS) HELLERUP, Denmark, Feb. 21, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- UNION therapeutics A/S (UNION), a privately-held, clinical stage, pharmaceutical development company focused on immunology, today announced a poster presentation on new clinical data of oral orismilast in patients with UC at the 20th European Crohn's and Colitis Organisation (ECCO) congress on February 19-22, 2025, in Berlin, Germany. UCORIS is a Phase 2a, open-label, investigator-initiated study investigating the efficacy and safety of oral orismilast for up to 12 weeks in adult patients with moderate and severe UC. Following the inclusion of 10 patients, the enrollment for the study has stopped with the study expected to be completed in 2025. The preliminary data from the proof-of-concept study suggests that orismilast exhibits therapeutic potential in moderate-to-severe ulcerative colitis, with three patients achieving complete remission. Poster details Poster title: Orismilast for the Treatment of Moderate to Severe Ulcerative Colitis: A phase 2a, open-label, single-arm explorative clinical study Authors: Trine Velte Honoré, Flemming Bendtsen, Jakob Seidelin, Johan Burisch Kim Kjøller, Chief Executive Officer of UNION therapeutics said:"We are encouraged by the investigators' presentation of preliminary data on orismilast for the treatment of ulcerative colitis at the ECCO congress. UC is a systemic autoimmune bowel disease where a high unmet medical need persists for effective and safe treatments." About UC and treatment of UC Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease that causes inflammation and ulcers (sores) in the lower digestive tract, i.e. colon and rectum. More than 1.8 million patients are diagnosed with UC in the US, Japan and EU5 and the incidence of UC is increasing worldwide1). Despite the treatment options available today, an unmet medical need for safe oral treatments with improved efficacy remains. UC is a disease that can be in remission (less active) for longer periods of time and then suddenly flare (termed "relapse"). During periods of relapse, patients experience a significant impact on their everyday lives, experiencing symptoms such as bloody stool, diarrhea, fecal incontinence, increased frequency of bowel movements (urgency), fatigue, and abdominal pain (cramps). Depending on the severity of UC and patient preferences, the treatment is tailored accordingly. Patients with mild UC are often treated with mild anti-inflammatory medication, taken orally or rectally, such as aminosalicylates, corticosteroids or immunomodulators. Patients with moderate to severe UC are often treated with immunosuppressants, biologics or a combination of such treatments. Overall, treatments aim to induce a rapid clinical response and maintain remission, ideally healing the ulcers and preventing long-term disability. About orismilast UNION is developing orismilast, a high-potency PDE4 inhibitor targeting the PDE4B/D subtypes linked to inflammation, demonstrating potent inhibition of Th1, Th2 and Th17 pathways. It operates early in the inflammation cascade, inducing a broad range of anti-inflammatory effects across multiple cytokines involved in many dermatological and immunological diseases.2) Orismilast holds the potential to become a safe and efficacious oral treatment for several immunological diseases3), and UNION is currently developing oral orismilast for the treatment of hidradenitis suppurativa (HS). The FDA has cleared UNION's Investigational New Drug (IND) application for oral orismilast and granted Fast Track designation for oral orismilast for the treatment of moderate to severe HS as well as for the treatment of moderate to severe atopic dermatitis.
