Nigerian govt delegation tours Kaduna textile sites to revive sector
Nigerian minister of state for industry, trade and investment John Enoh recently started a tour of key textile industry sites in Kaduna state to revive the cotton, textile and garment (CTG) sector.
Revitalising the sector will boost job creation and economic growth, he said.
A Nigerian government delegation recently started a tour of key textile industry sites in Kaduna state to revive the cotton, textile and garment sector. The government has convened sub-sector stakeholder engagements to resolve bottlenecks, promote public-private partnerships and collaborate with development partners, strengthen policy frameworks and support manufacturing by boosting export competitiveness.
'The ministry has convened sub-sector stakeholder engagements to identify and resolve bottlenecks, promote public-private partnerships and collaborate with development partners, strengthen policy frameworks and support local manufacturing by boosting export competitiveness,' the ministry said in a statement.
Reviving the Kaduna United Nigerian Textiles Limited (UNTL) to full operation would restore confidence in Nigeria's textile heritage and catalyse broader industrial growth the minister was cited as saying by domestic media reports. The UNTL factory ceased operations in 2022, contributing to rising insecurity in the region.
The federal government was urged to immediately address the unreliable power supply, which severely hindered production, and infiltration of smuggled and dumped textiles, which undermines domestic competitiveness.
The federal government delegation also visited Chellco Industries, a textile firm that has been operational since 1980.
