Rtd engr duped of 1cr in land fraud

Lucknow: A retired assistant engineer of the UP Awas Vikas Parishad has lodged a complaint with the Lucknow Police Commissionerate, alleging that a gang of fraudsters duped him of nearly Rs 1 crore using forged documents related to govt land. The complainant, SB Tripathi (65), a resident of Virat Khand, Gomtinagar, claimed that when he demanded his money back, the accused threatened to kill him. In his complaint, Tripathi said that on March 1, 2024, one Devesh Dev Bhatt and his associate, Rita Rai, approached him with an investment proposal. They introduced him to Ajay Kumar Dixit of Bada Chandganj and Mohammad Siraj of Sheikhapur, Aliganj. The accused allegedly showed him a fenced property near Rahimnagar Chauraha, claiming that the 9,230 square metre plot was jointly owned by Azhar Sultan of Farrashkhana, Wazirganj, who held legal ownership and power of attorney from other co-owners. The gang allegedly produced eight registered power of attorney documents, purportedly signed by the co-owners, and convinced Tripathi to invest his retirement corpus in a partnership with Dixit and Siraj. Believing their claims, Tripathi made multiple payments between April and June 2024, amounting to nearly Rs1 crore. Tripathi said he became suspicious when he was asked for additional funds to execute the sale deed. Upon verification at the Sadar Tehsil, he discovered that the land in question actually belonged to Hewett Polytechnic and was government property. Police have launched a probe into Azhar Sultan, Mohammad Siraj, Ajay Kumar Dixit, Devesh Dev Bhatt, and Rita Rai.
