‘Last treating doctor must issue death certificate free'
Lucknow: Director and joint registrar general, UP, Sheetal Verma on Friday said that it was mandatory for every last treating medical practitioner/doctor of the deceased to certify the cause of death on the prescribed format without any fee and a copy of it is to be made available to the family of the deceased.
Verma was speaking at a state level training programme on medical certification of causes of death (MCCD) jointly organised by the UP Directorate of Census Operations and Tata Memorial Centre and Cancer Institute in Lucknow.
She said that the in-charges of all government hospitals and medical colleges of Uttar Pradesh are notified as registrars for birth-death registration. In fact, medical certification of causes of death is also a part of the process of death registration.
"On the basis of the data received from the portal, an annual report on the causes of death is released by the Office of the Registrar General, India at the national level," she said.
Dr. Akash Anand of the Tata Cancer Institute, Mumbai said, "This training enhanced the capacity and efficiency of the trained doctors as per the requirements of the govt of India. And all medical colleges will prove to be useful as an excellent resource centre for the rest of the hospitals in the state."
