Officials: UPSIDA purifying waste water at treatment plants for reuse

The Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Authority (UPSIDA), through sewage treatment plants (STPs), waste water treatment plants, and common effluent treatment plants, is purifying and reusing wastewater keeping in mind environmental protection and industrial efficiency, officials said. The Surajpur waste water treatment plant (Gautam Budh Nagar) is being upgraded to SBR technology with a capacity of 6 MLD at a cost of Rs 899 lakh, targeted for completion by June 2026. The EPIP Kasna waste water treatment plant (3.6 MLD) is being upgraded with SBR technology at a cost of Rs 678.59 lakh. The Loni STP in Ghaziabad, based on MBBR technology, is operating at full capacity (5 MLD). Meanwhile, the Loni common effluent treatment plant dedicated to dyeing and textile waste is set for a major upgrade—from 6 MLD to 16 MLD—with a Rs 42 crore DPR already prepared. UPSIDA is integrating solar energy solutions into water purification plants and industrial areas. Rooftop solar panels are being installed at plant sites, leading to a significant reduction in energy costs and carbon emissions.

200 industrial plots lying idle for years, UP allots them again

Ghaziabad: In Sahibabad Industrial Area, 211 plots of various sizes have remained underutilised. Now, the plots have been subdivided and allotted for new industries, Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Authority (UPSIDA) regional manager Pradeep Satyarthi said on Tuesday. A revised policy has been worked out in which owners of sick industries will now be allowed to sell off 75% of the land by subdividing it into smaller plots of 4,000 sqm or more, while they can keep operating on 25% of the remaining land. The subdivided land parcels have been sold under three slabs: Rs 16,960/sqm, Rs 18,930/sqm, and Rs 25,780/sqm. In the Sahibabad Site-4 Industrial Area, 177 plots have been sold at Rs 25,780/sqm. Additionally, 26 plots in Site-2 of the Sahibabad Industrial Area have been sold at the rate of Rs 18,930/sqm. Traditionally, Ghaziabad is an industrial city with more than 27,000 industries spread across 10 industrial clusters, employing a workforce of over five lakh. Over the years, land has become scarce, proving to be a major impediment to the growth of new industries. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like An engineer reveals: One simple trick to get internet without a subscription Techno Mag Learn More Undo To overcome this impediment, UPSIDA in 2020 came up with a new industrial policy aimed at freeing land parcels within industrial belts so that new, relatively small industrial clusters could be created. The land parcels remain locked in as the industries that existed either went defunct or were closed down. "When plots were allocated for industries by the then UPSIDC in the 1970s, the size of plots was as big as 50 acres. But with time, many big industries became obsolete and sick and some even closed because there is a life cycle to it," Satyarthi said. "As a rule, the plot allotted for an industrial unit cannot be cancelled, but the problem is that a large chunk of the plot remains unutilised in these large industrial units. So, a new industrial policy was framed to create new land banks," Satyarthi added. It is estimated that about 300 acres of unused land remain locked up in these sick and obsolete industrial units. The new policy will allow owners to recover from loss while at the same time allowing small industries to flourish on this land. In the last 20 years, no new industrial clusters have been developed in Ghaziabad as UPSIDA has exhausted its land bank. Even though the demand for land to set up new industries is growing, this initiative is helping new industries to flourish.

Cleaning slow, sludge threatens more muck streams on Ghaziabad roads if it rains

Ghaziabad: Monsoon is here, kanwar yatra has begun, and the city is bracing for a month of diversions and congestions. The corporation, however, is not making things any easier. Sludge lifted from drains continues to be a public hygiene nightmare across localities, even main roads. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Over the past few days, ith drain cleaning not keeping pace with the arrival of monsoon, silt dredged from drains but dumped along roadsides has mixed with rainwater and flowed across roads like copious slime. But with sludge still largely parked where it was, a fresh spell of rain will compound the mess manifold. While civic officials TOI spoke to on Saturday said clearing of roads is on, visits to different places by our reporters and photographers showed streets are far from free from sludge. On Kala Patthar Road, some of the sludge was cleared but much of it lay there still, right in the middle of a densely populated neighbourhood with a bevy of condominiums on one side and Makanpur village on the other. The road under Sahibabad rapid rail station was in a mess, with sludge and rainwater creating a filthy swamp under the sleek transit corridor, which is days away from a full inauguration. Pedestrian space at a number of places on Meerut Road has been converted to swamps by deposits of sludge. This is the main kanwar route that lakhs of devotees will take over the next 15 days. Municipal commissioner Vikramaditya Singh Malik said, "The sludge extracted from drains cannot be removed when it is in semi-liquid state as it carries a lot of weight and payment to contractors or agencies is made basis the weight. So it is left to dry, and removed after two-three days. Unfortunately, it rained, which led to the situation we are in. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now But we have removed it from many places." Asked about the delay in drain cleaning, Malik said, "By June 15, we had completed the first round. This is the second round. Work is ongoing and a visible improvement in the situation will be seen in a week or so." In industrial belts, whose maintenance was taken over by Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Authority (UPSIDA) on April 1, the situation is no different. In Meerut Road industrial area, sludge has narrowed the road width, while in Sahibabad, broken roads and waterlogged streets mar smooth commute. "All drains with 1 metre width have been cleaned and road repair work has been done. In Sahibabad industrial area alone, we have spent Rs 4 crore in cleaning drains and repairing roads," said Raghunandan Singh Yadav, DGM of UPSIDA.
