Richardson arrested for domestic violence in Seattle, report says

Reigning 100 metres world champion Sha'Carri Richardson was arrested for domestic violence at a Seattle airport four days before the start of the US Track & Field Championships, USA TODAY Sports reported on Friday. The 25-year-old, who won Olympic silver in the 100 at the Paris Games, allegedly pushed her male companion who then fell into a nearby column after an argument, according to a police report obtained by USA TODAY Sports. The report said she was detained on the evening of July 27 and released the following day. "USATF is aware of these reports. We are not commenting on this matter," USA Track & Field said in a statement. Reuters has contacted Port of Seattle Police Department and Richardson's agent for comment. Richardson withdrew from the 100 semi-finals in Eugene, Oregon on Friday after participating in Thursday's heats. She is guaranteed a spot in the 100 at the world championships in September due to her win at Budapest in 2023.

A new law signed by President Donald Trump in February 2025 gives effect to this change. Big sports bodies like USA Swimming, USA Fencing, and USA Track & Field are now making similar changes. The change has created buzz and strong opinions all over the country. Now, attention is placed on those athletes who have been affected. Transgender athletes who can no longer compete Some of the transgender athletes who are directly affected or already blocked from competing: 1. CeCe Telfer – Track & Field A track runner who tried for the 2020 Trials, was already ruled ineligible by USA Track & Field before this change. 2. Chelsea Wolfe – BMX Cycling A BMX rider who made it to Team USA in 2021, will no longer be able to compete. International cycling already has a similar ban in place. 3. JayCee Cooper – Powerlifting JayCee Cooper is a transgender powerlifter, lost a legal case about competing in women's sports in Minnesota. With the new rule, she won't be able to take part either. 4. Lia Thomas – Swimming Lia Thomas was the first openly transgender woman to win an NCAA women's swimming title in 2022. She had hoped to try for the Olympics one day, but after World Aquatics banned transgender women in elite races, and now with the USOPC rule, she's not allowed to compete for Team USA either. 5. Andraya Yearwood & Terry Miller – High school runners These two transgender girls from Connecticut got attention for competing in girls' high school track races. Their wins started a national debate. While they were not Olympic athletes, this new rule affects all levels, including school and college. They would not be allowed on women's teams if they were trying to compete now. Wider impact on schools and college-level athletes Many transgender girls in U.S. schools are also being banned from girls' teams especially in states with strict laws. This national-level change adds to that. Also Read: United States Olympic And Paralympic Committee Bans Transgender From Women's Events, Citing Donald Trump Order This rule affects all transgender women who went through male puberty, even if they've taken hormones or transitioned years ago. The change also applies to youth and college sports under the Olympic system. Some groups are upset. The National Women's Law Center said this new rule is 'unfair' and could hurt the rights and mental health of many young athletes. Meanwhile, sports organizations across the world are watching closely. Swimming, track, and cycling already have strict rules for trans women. Now the U.S. has taken a big step too. Jersey City Marathon 2025 road closures, route map and results for Sunday's race

Runners are lacing up for the 2025 Jersey City Marathon and Half Marathon on Sunday, which means there are road closures throughout the city. The 2025 route, which is a 2026 Boston Marathon qualifying event, takes runners through the New Jersey city's diverse and culturally-rich neighborhoods. Here's what to know as the third annual race gets underway, including street closures, a map of the route and where to find the results. The marathon starts at 7 a.m. in the Newport neighborhood on Sunday, April 13, 2025. Runners should be onsite by 6 a.m., but those who purchased the option to pick up a bib on the day of the race should arrive closer to 5 a.m. to avoid the crowds. Bag check opens at 5:30 a.m. and closes promptly at 7 a.m., according to the race organizers. Runners must be on a 15 minute/mile pace or faster in order to finish, organizers say . The Half Marathon finish line closes at 10:30 a.m., while the full Marathon finish line closes at 1:35 p.m. The starting line for the full and half marathon is in the Newport Center, at the corner of Washington Boulevard and North Garage Driveway, across from the Newport PATH station. Both races finish at the Newport Green area, but runners in the full marathon complete a second loop before ending at the green. This is along the part of the Hudson River where a helicopter carrying six people crashed into the water on Thursday. It was not immediately clear if the crash and NTSB investigation would impact the race. Here's a map of the course: The marathon is a USA Track & Field sanctioned event with a certified course. In fact, the course is one of the fastest and flattest in the U.S., organizers say. For spectators, the best places to watch are near the start and finish lines, and on Grand Street, organizers say. Parking restrictions for the race started Friday and last through approximately 3 p.m. Sunday. There is no parking on any of the streets that are closed for the race during this time.
