ICE Arrests Haitian Oligarch Accused of Supporting Gangs
The United States government publicly accused one of the wealthiest and most powerful figures in Haiti of a 'campaign of violence and gang support' — for the first time blaming a prominent member of the nation's elite for the rampant violence there. Pierre Reginald Boulos, 69, a medical doctor who amassed extreme wealth through a chain of supermarkets and a car dealership, was arrested last week by the Homeland Security Investigations arm of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency on Thursday in Palm Beach County, Fla., where he lives. 'If you are supporting and collaborating with Haitian gang leaders — you can book yourself a ticket home,' the Department of Homeland Security said on a social media post that featured Mr. Boulos's photograph. The arrest is an important development in Haiti's battle against violent gangs. While the authorities have launched offensives against gang leaders and put million-dollar bounties on their heads, critics have argued that law enforcement officials in Haiti and the United States have not done enough to go after the wealthy power brokers who helped finance or even create the gangs. Business leaders have long been known to pay gangs for things like protection and access to the ports. Political parties use gangs to get communities to support particular candidates or start street protests targeting rivals. Critics say that the support of Haiti's elite was crucial in the establishment of gangs the. 'Seeking more information from US': Canadian man in ICE custody passes away; Ottawa reacts
Johnny Noviello A Canadian man who was in the custody of the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has passed away, it said in a statement , adding that the cause of death is being ascertained. The federal agency identified the individual as 49-year-old Johnny Noviello. "Johnny Noviello, a 49-year-old citizen of Canada in the custody of USICE, was pronounced deceased by the Miami Fire Rescue Department June 23 at 1:36 pm. The cause of death is still under investigation," the statement read. The ICE statement added that Noviello was being detained at the Bureau of Prisons Federal Detention Centre in Miami pending removal proceedings. "He was found unresponsive at 12:54 pm. Medical staff responded immediately and began administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation, automated external defibrillator shock, and called 911," it added. Providing further details, ICE shared that Noviello arrived in America in January 1988 on a legal visa and became a permanent resident here in October 1991. He was convicted in October 2023 for racketeering and drug trafficking. He was arrested by ICE on May 15. Canada reacts Canadian foreign minister Anita Anand confirmed that the Canadian government has been informed about Noviello's death. "Today, the government of Canada was notified of the death of a Canadian citizen while in custody in the United States. Canadian consular officials are urgently seeking more information from US officials. I offer my sincere condolences to the family. In order to respect the family's privacy, further details will not be provided at this time," Anand wrote on her social media handle. The US border immigration agency has reported seven in-custody deaths in 2025 as of May 5, according to its own website .

Local law enforcement, ICE conduct targeted enforcement operation in Charleston area
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Several law enforcement agencies are conducting a targeted enforcement operation around the Lowcountry, according to the Charleston County Sheriff's Office. The State Law Enforcement Division, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and several other agencies, including local ones, have partnered to conduct the operation throughout the Charleston area. The sheriff's office said they would provide additional information as investigations progress. News 2 has contacted ICE, SLED, and numerous local agencies said to be participating for further details of the operation. A news conference will be held Monday at 10 a.m. to discuss the details of a successful sting operation that took place overnight from Saturday to Sunday in Ladson. The Charleston County Sheriff's Office will host the multi-agency conference at their headquarters. According to Charleston County jail records, at least four individuals have been arrested from May 31 to June 1 on ICE holds; however, it has not been confirmed whether the arrests are connected to the operations.
