Canada Open 2025: Srikanth beats compatriot Priyanshu in first round; Ayush Shetty knocked out
Indian shuttler Kidambi Srikanth advanced to the Round of 16 of the Canada Open 2025, a BWF World Tour Super 300 event, after beating compatriot Priyanshu Rajawat in the first round on Wednesday at the Markham Pan Am Centre in Ontario.
Seventh seed Priyanshu started well to win the first game but Srikanth fought back to clinch the match 18-21, 21-19, 21-14 in 53 minutes.
Srikanth will face Chinese Taipei's Wang Po-Wei in the next round.

Fifth-seeded Indian Ayush Shetty, who won last week's US Open, went down 23-21, 21-12 to compatriot Sankar Muthusamy Subramanian. Sankar takes on Huang Yu Kai of Chinese Taipei for a place in the quarterfinals.
Top-seeded mixed doubles duo of Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto suffered a 21-15, 21-19 loss against Spain's Ruben Garcia and Lucia Rodriguez.
Shriyanshi Valishetty upset seventh-seeded Ukrainian Polina Buhrova 21-18, 22-20 to set up a second-round clash with Malaysia's Karupathevan Letshanaa.
However, Tanya Hemanth failed to convert two match points and went down 15-21, 24-22, 21-18 to Sung Shuo Yun, the third seed from Chinese Taipei. Ira Sharma lost 21-9, 21-14 to Kaloyana Nalbantova of Bulgaria.
