JioStar bags exclusive US Open broadcast rights for 5 years

JioStar has acquired the exclusive broadcast and streaming rights for the US Open Tennis Championships in India for the next five years. The agreement was secured through the USTA's media rights agency, IMG. All matches from the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center will be broadcast on the Star Sports Network and streamed on JioHotstar . This year's US Open will feature Carlos Alcaraz, Iga Świątek, Novak Djokovic, and Coco Gauff. Jannik Sinner and Aryna Sabalenka will defend their men's and women's singles titles, respectively. The men's and women's singles main draws will span 15 competition days. The US Open Mixed Doubles Championship will feature 16 pairs competing for a US$ 1 million prize. The field includes top-ranked players and nine Grand Slam singles champions. Notable pairings are Alcaraz with Emma Raducanu, Sinner with Emma Navarro, Świątek with Casper Ruud, Djokovic with Olga Danilovic, and Venus Williams with Reilly Opelka. Ben Shelton will partner with Taylor Townsend, while defending champions Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori will also compete. JioStar plans to implement tech-driven features for its coverage, including multi-language commentary and behind-the-scenes access on Star Sports Network and JioHotstar. Venus Williams earns wild-card entry for mixed doubles event in US Open

New York: Venus Williams is set to compete at the US Open, which is scheduled to take place next month. She will enter the mixed doubles event with Reilly Opelka via a wild-card entry. The 45-year-old returned to the tennis tour last week, after spending 16 months away from the sport. The seven-time Grand Slam champion and her partner, Opelka, were among the 14 teams announced on Tuesday by the US Tennis Association for its mixed doubles event. A total of 16 pairs will compete for the top prize. Eight teams received a direct entry, while six teams got wild cards to the US Open Mixed Doubles Championship. The final two wild cards will be announced at a later date. The pairs who received a direct entry included those who had the highest combined current singles rankings. Last week, the four-time Olympic champion, who hadn't featured in a tournament since the Miami Open in March 2024, secured a victory in one match each in the singles and doubles events at the DC Open. The eight duos with direct entry consist of Emma Navarro (No. 11) and Jannik Sinner (No. 1); Paula Badosa (No. 10) and Jack Draper (No. 5); Iga Swiatek (No. 3) and Casper Ruud (No. 13); Elena Rybakina (No. 12) and Taylor Fritz (No. 4); Amanda Anisimova (No. 7) and Holger Rune (No. 9); Belinda Bencic (No. 20) and Alexander Zverev (No. 3); Jessica Pegula (No. 4) and Tommy Paul (No. 15); Mirra Andreeva (No. 5) and Daniil Medvedev (No. 14). The 14 confirmed teams – eight receiving direct entry via combined singles ranking, and six receiving wild cards – feature some of today's biggest stars, legends of the game, current or former singles and doubles world No. 1s and Grand Slam singles, doubles and mixed doubles champions. The reimagined US Open Mixed Doubles Championship will be played on Tuesday, August 19, and Wednesday, August 20, at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, with $1 million in prize money being awarded to the winning team.
