Myanmar man with forged Indian passport held at airport
Mumbai: A Myanmar national who entered India after fleeing his country three years ago and subsequently obtained Aadhaar, PAN and voter ID cards as well as an Indian passport in another name was caught at the city airport on June 22 before he could board a flight to Kuala Lumpur.
He was caught on suspicion after he failed to speak in Hindi while his passport showed he was a Delhi resident.
The suspect, U Thang Soe Lyan Bawi, was handed over to Sahar police, who lodged an FIR against him on charges of passport forgery. Bawi allegedly used the forged Aadhaar, PAN and voter ID cards to obtain the Indian passport in Feb this year in Delhi.
During his interrogation, Bawi said after protesting against the Myanmar govt and its army, he fled the country in 2022 and arrived in Mizoram. "While staying in Mizoram, he frequently travelled to Delhi for work. He first managed to obtain a SIM with fraudulent documents. He used the mobile number to acquire Aadhaar, PAN and election cards," said a Sahar police officer.
