Spurs could earn more than Arsenal for being in next season's Champions League

Arsenal and Tottenham will both compete in the Champions League next season, but Spurs could pocket slightly more cash than their rivals despite finishing well below them in the Premier League Tottenham may have finished well below Arsenal in the Premier League this season, but they could stand to rake in more than their bitter rivals in the Champions League next year. Spurs endured a season to forget under Ange Postecoglou in the Premier League, finishing in 17th place. But they made amends for their shocking domestic record by clinching the club's first major trophy in 17 years in last week's Europa League final. Their triumph in Bilbao also guarantees Tottenham a spot in the Champions League next season and all the financial benefits that brings. ‌ It also means the Londoners will face the winners of this weekend's Champions League final in the Uefa Super Cup later in the summer - and that would potentially allow Tottenham to bank more than cash than their domestic rivals. ‌ As outlined by The Sun, all six English teams who have qualified for the Champions League will earn a 'starting bonus' of £15.72million as per the terms of the cash model Uefa employed last season. The total sum earned by each club is divided up based on European performances over the last five to 10 years and size of the respective nation's TV contract. England's contract, which includes a £305m agreement with TNT Sports, is second only to France's coverage which is worth an estimated £411m-a-year. City are ranked highest of the English clubs in the five-year coefficient table and therefore stand to earn the biggest share of the 'European' portion of the finances on offer, plus the third largest slice of the 'non European' pot. In total, they stand to pocket ££53.13m. Arsenal are fourth in the earnings list with a sum of £47.86m. But although Tottenham are below them, they could end up earning more; this is partly because they will earn a further guaranteed £3.38m for reaching the Uefa Super Cup. ‌ But if Benfica fail to advance past the tournament's qualifying rounds, then Tottenham would stand to land £48m in total: an amount slightly in excess of what Arsenal will earn. The Gunners finished second for a third successive year to clinch their golden ticket to the Champions League, where they reached the semi-finals before losing to PSG.

Davide Ancelotti latest as dad Carlo eyes shock reunion with Brazil icon as replacement for Rangers manager contender

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) DAVIDE ANCELOTTI dramatically emerged as a leading contender for the Rangers job this week. Should he move to Ibrox, it'll leave dad Carlo looking for a new assistant - and it appears he's got a BIG name in mind. Having initially started out as a fitness coach at PSG and then Real Madrid, he was promoted to assistant manager when Carlo became Bayern Munich boss in 2016. He went onto hold the same role at Napoli, Everton and upon their return to Real Madrid. But it'll be all change at the Bernabeu in just a matter of weeks. Carlo Ancelotti is leaving after four years in charge and he's been appointed the new manager of the Brazil national team. Many of his trusted coaching lieutenants look set to follow him into international management - but perhaps not his son. Davide looks set to go out on his own this summer and become a manager. It was earlier this week when stunning reports emerged that he was a front-runner for the vacancy at Rangers. He'd also been linked with the Como job in Serie A but Cesc Fabregas' decision to stay despite strong suggestions he could become the next Bayer Leverkusen manager means that is no longer a viable avenue. The initial Spanish report from AS revealing Rangers' interest in Ancelotti claims that he would continue to act as his dad's No2 in Brazil's World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador and Paraguary early next month. Carlo Ancelotti named Brazil coach as former Chelsea boss makes history after leaving Real Madrid Then, he'd move on to doing his own thing. That'll mean that for the first time in almost a decade, Carlo Ancelotti will be looking for a new assistant manager. Fresh reports coming out of Brazil suggest he's got a superstar name in mind as a potential replacement for Davide. CNN Brasil claim that Carlo wants former Brazil icon Kaka about joining him as his new No2. They report that Ancelotti Sr has 'already contacted' the legendary former No10. One of the best players of his generation, Kaka has now been retired for eight years. A World Cup winner in 2002, he played 92 times for the Selecao and scored 29 goals. Kaka shot to stardom during his highly successful spell at AC Milan between 2003 and 2009. His manager during that six-year spell was, of course, Carlo Ancelotti. Together, they won a Serie A title, the Champions League, the Uefa Super Cup and the Club World Cup. Kaka would join Real Madrid in 2009 but did NOT play under Ancelotti for Los Blancos. The Italian was appointed Real boss in June 2013 and Kaka was still on the books. But having not kicked a competitive ball so far in the 2013/14 season, he made a return to AC Milan instead. After a brief spell at first club Sao Paulo, Kaka ended his career in MLS with Orlando City. He hasn't held a senior coaching role since retiring from playing but he could be about to land a major gig alongside his former boss. 4 Kaka starred at AC Milan under Ancelotti Credit: Getty 4 He could return to Brazil in a brand new role Credit: Action Images - Reuters Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page

Trent Alexander-Arnold announces his Liverpool exit paving way for Real Madrid move

Trent Alexander-Arnold has announced he is leaving Liverpool at the end of the season, paving the way for a summer move to Real Madrid. The England defender's current deal with the newly crowned Premier League champions ends this summer and he has long been linked with a switch to the Spanish capital. Alexander-Arnold described the call to end his 20-year association with Liverpool as 'easily the hardest decision I've ever made in my life' saying he felt the time was right 'to experience a new challenge'. The 26-year-old has made 352 appearances for the Merseyside club, scoring 23 goals and supplying 92 assists, winning the Fifa Club World Cup, Uefa Super Cup, Uefa Champions League, two Premier League titles, as well as the FA Cup and League Cup, along the way. This season, he has helped guide Liverpool to a record-equalling 20th English top-flight crown, matching the total of bitter rivals Manchester United. 'I know many of you have wondered why or been frustrated that I haven't spoken about this yet, but it was always my intention to keep my full focus on the team's best interests, which was securing No. 20,' he said in a post on X. "This club has been my whole life – my whole world – for 20 years. From the academy right through until now, the support and love I have felt from everyone inside and outside of the club will stay with me forever. 'I will forever be in debt to you all. But, I have never known anything else and this decision is about experiencing a new challenge, taking myself out of my comfort zone and pushing myself both professionally and personally.' The futures of Alexander-Arnold, captain Virgil van Dijk and star attacker Mohamed Salah had been a source of relentless speculation this season with the contracts of all three due to end this summer. But while Van Dijk and Salah decided to prolong their Liverpool careers, Alexander-Arnold has called time on his and is set for a fresh new chapter in his career, almost certainly at 15-time European champions Real Madrid. He is set to join England teammate Jude Bellingham in the Spanish capital while also following in the footsteps of Steve McManaman and Michael Owen who made the move from Liverpool to Madrid in 1999 and 2004, respectively. 'There's a lot I would like to say,' Alexander-Arnold added, directly addressing the Liverpool fans. 'The main thing is a massive thank you. You guys have been there from the start with me, you guys have supported me, been there. 'I've felt the support, the love, everything that you guys have done has never been unnoticed by me, I've loved every single minute of it. I hope they have felt that has been reciprocated and that I've given everything I could to the club. 'I'm just hoping that we're able to carry on winning games, the noise [around my decision] doesn't take away from the fact of what we've achieved this season. 'It has been an amazing season. It has been amazing to be part of it and I just hope that everyone is able to maybe not dwell on this news for too long and be able to celebrate what the rest of the lads have done.' Liverpool said in statement on the club website that Alexander-Arnold 'will depart with our gratitude and appreciation for his contribution during a sustained period of success'. The Merseysiders currently lead second placed Arsenal at the top of the table by 15 points, despite losing 3-1 at Chelsea on Sunday in what was only their third league defeat this season. They have three more games to play, at home to the Gunners on Sunday, followed by Brighton away and then Crystal Palace at home which should see Alexander-Arnold play his final game at Anfield in Liverpool colours.
