(Photo by Uichiro Kasai) JUN YAMAZAKI TOKYO -- Details released by the White House on its tariff agreement with Japan include many points that are unclear or out of sync with how Tokyo has explained it, including the date it goes into effect and the framework for Japanese investment in the U.S. A U.S. fact sheet on the Japan tariff deal released Wednesday states that "imports from Japan will be subject to a baseline 15% tariff rate" but does not clarify when that will start.

Ishiba acknowledged the idea during an interview with Nikkei on Monday, adding, however, that "it is a possibility that requires further, more detailed consideration."

"The U.S. is indeed the biggest producer of oil. But we have to think about the price and the type of oil they produce," Ishiba said in an interview with Nikkei.
