Saudi Arabia's Lucid Air Sets World Record With 1,205Km Drive On A Single Charge

Saudi Arabia's Lucid Group has set a new world record for the longest journey by an electric car on a single charge — covering 1,205km (749 miles) across Europe. The record-breaking drive was completed last weekend by the Lucid Air Grand Touring, travelling from St. Moritz, Switzerland to Munich, Germany, and included alpine roads, highways, and secondary roads. The journey beat the previous world record of 1,045km, set in June 2025, by a margin of 160 kilometres. Eric Bach, Senior Vice President of Product and Chief Engineer at Lucid, said: 'This range record represents a significant milestone – it's yet another clear demonstration of the technological edge that defines Lucid. 'Our Lucid products combine world class vehicle efficiency with the most advanced drive units, ultra-high voltage architecture, and battery management technology available today, which lets a Lucid travel further with less energy than any other vehicles.' At the core of the Lucid Air Grand Touring's success is its ultra-efficient electric powertrain, boasting: WLTP range of 960km Energy efficiency of 13.5 kWh/100km 831 PS and a top speed of 270 kmph Ultra-fast charging: 400km added in just 16 minutes This latest achievement marks the second successful Guinness World Record involving Lucid and Umit Sabanci, a London-based entrepreneur with a passion for EV endurance challenges. In 2024, Sabanci set the record for most countries visited on a single charge — crossing nine nations in a Lucid Air Grand Touring. 'When I completed the nine-country journey in 2024, it was just the beginning,' said Sabanci.'This new achievement proves that electric mobility isn't just the future — it's already redefining what's possible today.'

Lucid's Luxury Electric Sedan Is the Undisputed Range King The Lucid Air Grand Touring has long held the reputation as one of the most efficient and longest-range electric vehicles on sale today, and now it has a Guinness World Records title to back it up. Certified recently, Lucid's luxury sedan completed a staggering 749-mile drive on a single charge, surpassing the previous record by nearly 100 miles. 0:09 / 0:09 Meet the ultimate Audi RS 6 Avant: Only 85 are coming to the U.S. Watch More That said, the Lucid Air Grand Touring now holds the Guinness World Records title for the longest journey by an electric car on a single charge. The Air Grand Touring has an official WLTP range of 596 miles (512 miles based on EPA standards), efficiency of around 4.6 miles per kWh, and 824 horsepower on tap. It also supports ultra-fast charging, adding up to 249 miles in just 16 minutes. Lucid has been a technological leader in the EV space with its proprietary drive units, 924-volt electrical architecture, and class-leading battery management. Clearly, Lucid's engineering pays off – at least when conditions are right. Covering 749 Miles In One Charge The record-setting drive took place between St. Moritz, Switzerland, and Munich, Germany. The 749-mile journey, completed without taking a break to charge, tackled various thoroughfares, including alpine passes, highways, and secondary roads. The run was organized in partnership with Umit Sabanci, a London-based entrepreneur who also drove a Lucid Air Grand Touring through nine countries on a single charge in 2024. That feat earned a separate record – most countries visited on a single charge – and this latest achievement is the second Guinness title for the pairing of Sabanci and Lucid Motors. Source: Lucid But Take It with a Pinch of Salt Still, it's important to look closely at how this record was achieved. The drive began in St. Moritz – an alpine resort town sitting at nearly 6,000 feet above sea level – and ended in Munich, which sits at just 1,600 feet. That's a total descent of over 4,300 feet, giving the Lucid an enormous advantage in regenerative braking. While the drive included mixed road types, it also leveraged a favorable topography that's hard to overlook. So yes, the Lucid Air Grand Touring can go 749 miles on a single charge, but not on just any route. In real-world conditions, like on a straight path without elevation changes, your mileage will quite literally vary. Source: Lucid About the Author Jacob Oliva View Profile

Lucid Air Grand Touring Sets World Record Drive on a Single Charge

Lucid set a new Guinness World Record for the longest drive on a single charge by any electric vehicle. The record was set by a Lucid Air Grand Touring, which covered 749 miles between St. Moritz, Switzerland, and Munich, Germany. The Air Grand Touring already held the record for the longest drive on Car and Driver's 75-mph real-world highway range test. Lucid has set a new Guinness World Record for the longest drive on a single charge by an electric vehicle. According to Lucid, Umit Sabanci, a London-based entrepreneur, set the record in a Lucid Air Grand Touring. Lucid Starting in St. Moritz, Switzerland, and ending in Munich, Germany, Sabanci's drive totaled 749 miles (1205 kilometers), exceeding the previous record of 649 miles (1045 km) by exactly 100 miles. According to the automaker, the route included alpine roads, highways, and surface roads. While considerably shorter, the Air Grand Touring became the champion of Car and Driver's 75-mph real-world highway range test back in 2022, when we achieved 410 miles on a single charge. Official estimates from the EPA put the Air Grand Touring's range at 516 miles when it is wearing its standard 19-inch wheels and all-season Pirellis. Lucid While the new feat is certainly impressive, we should point out a few caveats. First, the elevation change. Nestled into the southern slopes of the Alps, St. Moritz sits at roughly 6000 feet above sea level. Munich, on the other hand, is located at approximately 1700 feet above sea level, or 4300 feet below St. Moritz. In 2021, we made a similar descent (closer to 6000 feet) from the summit of Pikes Peak to downtown Colorado Springs in a Porsche Taycan to prove just how much gravity helps regenerative braking. Spoiler: it's a big help. Lucid Lucid also neglected to highlight the average speed of the drive. While normal routes between the two cities average around 220 miles, Lucid's drive was closer to 750—leading us to believe that the automaker selected a very gradual descent down the north side of the Alps. Still, even with potentially low top speeds and a net downhill route, 750 miles on a single charge is nothing to scoff at. New Range King? Lucid EV Wins Guinness World Record

Move over, Ford and Mercedes: There's a new contender in the growing competition for big-range electric vehicles. Lucid, a California startup that produced its first EV in 2020, just proved that its sedan may take you farther (without recharging) than any other vehicle on the market. The company has officially earned a Guinness World Record for 'longest journey by an electric car on a single charge.' This weekend, two drivers took the Grand Touring edition of the Lucid Air on a trip from Silvaplana, Switzerland, to Munich, Germany. Relying on only the fully charged electric vehicle, they traveled 748 miles. That's nearly 100 miles more than the previous record set a month ago by a Mercedes-Benz EQS 450+. And it's 178 miles more than the same record set by a Ford Mustang Mach-E SUV in August 2024. Lucid's managers were quick to trumpet the victory as proof of 'the technological edge that defines Lucid,' Eric Bach, the brand's senior vice president of product and chief engineer, said in a release. It also builds on previous records. Umit Sabanci, a U.K. entrepreneur who drove the vehicle this weekend along with Kenneth Schofield, also helmed the Lucid Air Grand Touring last year for another record: 'most countries visited on a single charge in a production battery electric vehicle.' 'When I completed the nine-country journey in 2024, it was just the beginning,' Sabanci said in a release. 'This new achievement takes that journey even further. I'm proud to be part of a movement that proves electric mobility isn't just the future: it's already redefining what's possible today.' To be fair, the Lucid Air has been making headlines for several years. It's 'arguably the world's best EV,' GearJunkie contributor Michael Van Runkle wrote. In April, Van Runkle got a chance to get behind the wheel of the 2026 Lucid Gravity, the brand's electric SUV. Moreover, Van Runkle was able to drive the Grand Touring edition: the same package used this weekend to earn Lucid's long-distance record with the Air. Basically, the Grand Touring package offers dual motors rated for a combined 828 horsepower and 909 pound-feet of torque, with full-time all-wheel drive. A 123kWh battery pack manages industry-best efficiency, so the Gravity initially achieved a 450-mile EPA range estimate. After a day of testing, Van Runkle praised the vehicle's handling, wealth of storage space, and seating for seven. He called it a 'rocketship that can outhandle most sports cars.' 'Sinuous highways and snaking canyons provided on-road impressions, followed by a semi-serious off-roading demonstration that left a big smile on my face,' Van Runkle wrote. 'Altogether, my day with Gravity once again proved beyond a reasonable doubt that Lucid employs some of the best minds in the business.' Of course, Lucid made the Gravity model as an alternative to the Air, which packs in so much advanced technology that the price tag soars well into the six figures — and beyond what most Americans could afford. Even the Lucid Gravity's price tag still starts at $94,900, and also leaps into the six figures with the Grand Touring package. According to Guinness World Records, the record is simply about 'showing what electric vehicles are capable of today — not just in theory, but in action.' And Lucid proved its cutting-edge vehicles have what it takes to transform transportation, along with the rest of the growing EV market. Maybe one day in the future, a few of us non-millionaires will get to enjoy its benefits. 2024 Lucid Gravity: All-Electric SUV Follow-Up to the Air Sedan
