Great start to Classic season
AFTER a strong start to their 2025/26 campaign, the U17 and U15 teams of Umkhumbane Classic Football Club are sitting on top of the Cato Manor League logs in the Durban Local Football Association.
Coach Jabulani Zuke said that this is a first for the Mayville club which is nurturing young talent for the big leagues. Zuke said the U17 boys, who are playing in the Open Division, have stunned a number of teams in the league, which has resulted in them amassing 13 points in five games with Bonela United hot on their heels with 11 points.
With nine games left in the league and at the rate that the boys are playing, Zuke said they have a strong chance to win the league. 'We are dreaming a possible dream right now,' said Zuke. 'Winning the league won't be easy, but it is possible. Our target is 40 points. Although we have 13 points right now, if we can win the remaining nine games then the league is ours.'

The U15 boys are also making their presence felt in their division. With top scorers Wandile Makhathini and Mthokozisi Ndaba scoring in several games, Umkhumbane Classic have won two of their three games, drawing one. The team is in top position on the log with seven points.
'We have set the standard and the bar very high. They are young boys but are playing with great skill. If they can keep this up for the rest of the season we will most definitely be lifting the cup. The entire team is flying the Umkhumbane Classic flag high,' said Zuke.
He said the team has been working hard to stay true to their goal and remain game focussed. 'We fully understand that the upcoming games are going to be hard, but we are determined that nobody will stand in our way. We do not want to drop any points. I'm very specific in my approach to games, and our style of play it is something to be talked about,' said Zuke.
The team that starts every match with a prayer began as Super Angel FC in 2013 and merged with Umkhumbane Classic in 2021. The team trains from Tuesday to Friday, 16:00 to 18:00. For more information contact Zuke on 061 449 6935.
