Duck Dynasty 's Korie Robertson Details Phil Robertson's Health Decline
Originally appeared on E! Online Phil Robertson's family knew their time with him was coming to a close. Just before the Duck Dynasty patriarch died at the age of 79, his daughter-in-law Korie Robertson shared Phil's health had taken a start turn for the worse. In fact, Korie—married to Phil's son Willie Robertson—told The New York Post in the days leading up to Phil's death that his health was 'declining really rapidly,' noting it was 'so hard to watch' for the family. 'But he's so loved,' she added. 'And all the family is just coming around him and taking really good care of him.' It was an echo of what Phil's son Jase Robertson had shared weeks earlier amid his father's health challenges. 'We're doing the best we can,' the 55-year-old explained during the April 2 episode of the Unashamed with the Robertson Family podcast. 'I think that's just what you do.' And on May 25, Korie confirmed on social media Phil was 'now with the lord,' five months after the family publicly shared his diagnosis with Alzhemier's disease. More from E! How did Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson die? Here is what he was recently diagnosed with
Duck Dynasty patriarch Phil Robertson died on May 25 at 79 years old. The Robertson family did not immediately specify the cause of death, however, the family had previously mentioned Phil's health issues. Last December, Phil Robertson's son, Jase Robertson, opened up about his father being diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and a blood disorder. During an episode of the "Unashamed with the Robertson Family" podcast that aired on Dec. 6, Jase revealed that his father was battling Alzheimer's. On the same podcast episode, Jase said that his father's memory was not "what it once was." In addition to this, Phil was also dealing with a blood disorder. Jase explained that, while unsure of the exact name of the blood disorder, doctors said that Phil had a kind of blood disease. 'We were trying to figure out the diagnosis, but according to the doctors, they are sure that he has some sort of blood disease that's causing all kinds of problems," said Jase. By December, the blood disorder had accelerated and was affecting Phil's entire body. During Jan. 2025, A&E announced a "Duck Dynasty" reboot titled "Duck Dynasty: The Revival" that is scheduled to premiere this summer. The new series will air on June 1, 2025, and will follow the lives of Willie and Korie Robertson, as well as their growing family and the future of the Duck Commander business. Due to issues with health, Phil was not going to be involved in the reboot. The new series is still set to air on the expected date despite Phil's death. It begins with the appearance of a build-up of proteins in the form of amyloid plaques and neurofibrillary tangles in the brain, which causes brain cells to die over time and the brain to shrink. Early symptoms of Alzheimer's disease include forgetting recent events or conversations. Over time, the disease leads to serious memory loss and affects a person's ability to do everyday tasks. There is currently no cure. 0:36 Willie Robertson of Duck Dynasty says he has 3 things in common with Trump Phil and his extended family became wealthy manufacturing duck calls — called Duck Commander — and were turned into TV and pop culture stars by Duck Dynasty, which has set cable ratings records for a non-fiction series. Story continues below advertisement The series ran for 11 seasons before the family announced the show was coming to an end. 'After five years, we've decided … as a family for this to be the final chapter of the Duck Dynasty series,' Jase said. The immensely popular show premiered in 2012 and broke multiple records for viewership right out of the gate, averaging more than 11 million viewers in Season 4. In the past years, people slowly stopped watching the show, due in part to Phil's well-publicized homophobic comments. In 2013, Phil was suspended for a brief period from Duck Dynasty filming because of the hostile remarks. He told GQ magazine that the Bible views gay people as sinners akin to adulterers, prostitutes and swindlers. He returned to the show after a 'hiatus.' 'We are extremely disappointed to have read Phil Robertson's comments in GQ, which are based on his own personal beliefs and not reflected in the series Duck Dynasty,' A&E, the network that aired Duck Dynasty, said in a statement at the time. 'For far too long we have been told to shut up. No more. Here's the deal, America. These are my woods. Out here, I call the shots. Out here, we reject political correctness, or as I like to say, 'pontificated crap,'' he said. Story continues below advertisement Phil's death comes as the Duck Dynasty franchise is set to return to TV with Duck Dynasty: The Revival on June 1. The show will follow Willie and Korie Robertson and their family of six as they 'grapple with mapping out the future of Duck Commander,' according to the show's synopsis. A&E has already ordered two seasons of the spin-off, with 20 episodes for each season. — With files from Global News' Chris Jancelewicz

Phil Robertson, ‘Duck Dynasty' patriarch, dies at 79
Phil Robertson was one of the stars of 'Duck Dynasty,' an A&E series that stars his family -- Robertson and his wife, Kay; their sons; the sons' wives; an uncle and some grandchildren -- and revolves loosely around their duck hunting gear business. Robertson was born April 24, 1946, in Vivian, a rural town in the northwestern corner of Louisiana, as one of seven children. Advertisement He attended Louisiana Tech University on a football scholarship and after receiving his bachelor's degree in physical education and a master's in education, spent several years teaching in Louisiana schools. Get Starting Point A guide through the most important stories of the morning, delivered Monday through Friday. Enter Email Sign Up Unsatisfied with the existing duck calls on the market, Robertson set out to craft his own. In 1972, he whittled what would become the signature product of his company, Duck Commander, which he founded the following year. Robertson was initially opposed to the idea of a television show, his son Willie told The New York Times in 2013. 'He said, 'I'm already as famous as I want to be.'' Willie Robertson said. 'I explained to him: 'Phil, this can expand your platform to talk about the things you like to talk about,'' including his Christian faith. Advertisement 'Duck Dynasty,' which ran over 11 seasons from 2012 to 2017, once ranked among the most popular shows on cable and had as many as 12 million viewers. It is loosely centered on the Duck Commander business, headed by Willie, Phil Robertson's third son with Kay. It drew fans for its idiosyncratic humor, the characters' offbeat antics and the way the family was able to mine self-deprecating wisdom from the redneck caricature. The family was also notably one of the first in the reality television industry to openly admit that their show was staged, describing it as 'guided reality' in which producers would often sketch out the parameters of a situation and have the family live it. That helped the show solidify the idea that distinguishing between real and fake isn't really important in reality television. The show has occasionally courted controversy. In 2013, Robertson was briefly suspended from the show after an interview surfaced in which he had made statements that were widely seen as offensive to gay people. But the network quickly reinstated him under pressure from fans and after the family issued a statement saying in effect that there would be no show without their patriarch. Last year, Jase Robertson said on the family's podcast, 'Unashamed with the Robertson Family,' that his father had early stage Alzheimer's. 'Phil's not doing well,' Jase said, adding that Robertson also had a 'blood disease causing all kinds of problems.' Robertson's survivors include his wife; his sons Alan, Jase, Jep and Willie; and several grandchildren. This article originally appeared in
