Wrestling key to India's Olympic dream, says Union min in Kota
1 2 Kota: The three-day Under-20 National Wrestling Competition concluded at Raghurai Sports Complex in Nayapura, Kota, Tuesday. Speaking at the closing ceremony, Union minister of state for sports Raksha Khadse said wrestling is deeply embedded in India's culture and will play a key role in the nation's bid to host the 2036 Olympics. Khadse said Prime Minister Narendra Modi's decade-long push to promote sports has improved training and infrastructure, boosting India's medal tally in international events. She stressed that beyond medals, the goal is to ensure the physical and mental fitness of the youth through initiatives like Fit India and Khelo India , which also instil unity and discipline. State sports minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore announced the launch of the 'Target Olympic Podium Scheme' in the state, mirroring the national model. Under the scheme, 50 athletes will receive funding and the freedom to choose their coaches to prepare for international competitions. To strengthen grassroots fitness, Rathore said open gyms will be established at gram panchayat levels, furthering the Fit India Movement . 1 2 Kota: Deputy chief minister Diya Kumari said Monday that the double-engine BJP govt will serve permanently, not just for five years. She emphasised the administration's commitment to strengthening sports and athletes across the state. The event took place at the Raghurai Endo Sports Complex in Nayapura, where Diya Kumari, as chief guest, presented awards to female wrestlers competing in the Under-20 National Wrestling Competition . The three-day event was inaugurated by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Sunday. "Such sports events are being organised for the first time in Rajasthan, and I extend my thanks to MP and LS Speaker Om Birla for his efforts," Diya Kumari said. "I believe such big events will continue to be organised in Rajasthan in time to come as the double-engine govt has been established in the state, and it is not just for five years. Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari on Monday claimed the BJP's double-engine government in Rajasthan would be in place not just for five years but "forever" and serve the people. Addressing a gathering at the Raghurai Endo Sports Complex here after presenting medals to female wrestlers from across the country participating in the Under-20 National Wrestling Competition, said the state government would strengthen sports facilities and ensure the welfare of the athletes. The competition was inaugurated by LS Speaker Om Birla on Sunday. "I believe such big events will continue to be organised in Rajasthan as a double-engine government has been established in the state and it is not just for five years. The BJP government will always be here forever and serve the people," the deputy chief minister said. She mentioned that the Under-20 National Wrestling Competition in Kota will be a milestone in promoting the sports in the state. She also praised Rajiv Dutta, the president of the Rajasthan Wrestling Association, for giving the event a grand form. Sanjay Singh, the president of the Indian Wrestling Federation, said the competition held in Kota has infused new energy in the athletes. Such events will increase enthusiasm among athletes, he added.
