Krishnagiri Collector calls for speedy completion of UGD Phase II works
During a review of various project works underway in the Krishnagiri Municipality, District Collector C. Dinesh Kumar, while inspecting Phase II of the Underground Drainage Project, directed the implementing agency to expedite works.
The collector inspected the phase II of the underground drainage project and the solid waste management and treatment plant project under implementation at a cost of ₹49.86 crore here.
Of the 33 wards in Krishnagiri, the UGD works have been completed in 14 wards spanning a length of 42.96 km.
The sewerage collection infrastructure entails pipelines of 110 diameter to 450 diameter of PVC and HDPE pipelines spanning a length of 52.09 km already laid, along with 2,481 mechanised drain pits. The sewage is then collected in three soak pits and is treated in a sewage treatment plant of 9 MLD capacity near Devasamuthiram lake. The treated sewage is then safely released into Devasamuthiram lake, according to the project plan.
As of date, works upto 6.41 km distance have been completed and the officials have been instructed to expedite the works.
Mr. Dinesh Kumar also inspected the solid waste management plant here. In Krishnagiri municipality, in the 4 zones, about 22.9 mt of solid waste is collected. This includes 12 mts of degradable waste and 10.9 mts of non-biodegradable waste.
Similarly, the municipality is setting up a biomethanation plant to convert waste into power at a project cost of ₹1.70 crore. The Collector inspected the works underway under the three main projects and instructed officials to expedite them.
