3 reasons why WWE legend John Cena will not be able to ruin wrestling
(Image via WWE) John Cena 's plan to ruin the one thing that has provided for him may not succeed after all. John Cena was always known to be the larger-than-life good guy and role model to millions across the world. At the start of 2025, Cena began his farewell tour, which will see the end of a two-decade-long career in the ring. However, The Cenation Leader shocked the world by turning heel at the end of the 2025 WWE Elimination Chamber PLE. He fired back at the fans for their mistreatment of him for years and vowed to ruin wrestling on the last leg of his in-ring career. Despite being drunk in power and holding the Undisputed WWE title in his grasp, here are three reasons why Cena would not be able to succeed in his plan: 3. John Cena's physical shape will meet its match John Cena himself has admitted that he is no longer in the prime physical shape that he once was, which has been a huge reason for him taking the decision to retire this year. Despite using underhanded tactics to win matches in recent memory, there might come a time when Cena meets his match, who would use his superior shape to counter Cena's moves and possibly dethrone him for the Undisputed WWE Championship. 2. Cena has been showing signs of babyface While John Cena has gone into full heel mode, there have been recent events that showed signs of Cena reverting back to a baby face in the coming months. One was him getting teared up after his last match against his iconic rival, Randy Orton, at the 2025 WWE Backlash PLE. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Free P2,000 GCash eGift UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo Another time was at the Saturday Night's Main Event when he had a second thought of striking R-Truth with the title belt during their match. There is a possibility that Cena might drop the idea of ruining wrestling and return to his roots of being a good guy. 1. Cody Rhodes will save wrestling to replace him John Cena defeated Cody Rhodes in the main event of WrestleMania 41 to win his record-breaking 17th World Championship. Rhodes took a hiatus before returning to WWE at Saturday Night's Main Event to stop him from attacking Jey Uso. This may be the start of their reignited rivalry that can culminate in Cena's last match with Rhodes, defeating him to win back the title and save wrestling by replacing Cena as the face of WWE. John Cena voices support for disgraced former WWE chairman Vince McMahon: 'I love Vince'
John Cena voices support for disgraced former WWE chairman Vince McMahon: 'I love Vince' Show Caption Hide Caption John Cena, Cody Rhodes headline Wrestlemania 41 in Las Vegas Jordan Mendoza breaks down all the exciting matches to expect from Wrestlemania 41 in Las Vegas. This weekend will represent the second WrestleMania since WWE founder and former chairman Vince McMahon had to leave the company again amid allegations of sex trafficking and sexual assault that were levied against him in a lawsuit by a former female employee. But McMahon's decades-long control and role over pro wrestling's biggest brand still looms large as its biggest event of the year approaches. While many current WWE superstars have chosen to distance themselves from McMahon in the aftermath of his WWE departure, John Cena is taking the opposite approach ahead of his main event match with Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE championship on Sunday during night two of WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas. Cena, in a New York Times profile before what he has announced will be his final WrestleMania, emphasized he still has positive feelings for McMahon despite multiple instances of alleged sexual misconduct and sexual assault behind-the-scenes at WWE (and alleged hush money doled out in conjunction with those incidents). McMahon has denied the allegations. WRESTLEMANIA HISTORY: Every location, host city, venue for WWE's biggest live event "I don't care who hears it: I love Vince," Cena said. "I'm not downplaying anything that needs to be decided or allegations of any kind, but when I love somebody, I love them wholeheartedly." Cena added: "I know people are going to be angry about that, but they can't put their value on my relationship with somebody I love." Cena, 48, became one of the WWE's biggest stars of all-time under McMahon. The 16-time world champion would surpass Ric Flair and set a new WWE record for most world championships won if he were to beat Rhodes on Sunday. Cena is notably performing as the heel (or bad guy) during the lead up to WrestleMania 41 after spending most of his pro wrestling career with his character packaged as a face (or good guy). Not everybody in WWE thinks about McMahon the same way Cena does, though. Roman Reigns, in his own Vanity Fair profile released earlier this week ahead of WrestleMania, acknowledged that McMahon reached out to him last year to wish him happy birthday. But Reigns did not offer any support of his former boss after Janel Grant, a former WWE employee, accused McMahon of sexual assault and trafficking, as well as physical and emotional abuse. "She's got to live with all these situations that happened and hopefully she's in a place where she feels comfortable and she's secure in her own place," Reigns said about Grant. "It's embarrassing. That's stuff you don't want to hear about. You don't want your family to hear about."

When is WrestleMania 41? Date and start time for WWE's showpiece event
WWE 's biggest event of the year, WrestleMania, is edging closer. This April, the two-night showpiece will take place in Las Vegas, and it will be the 41st edition of WrestleMania. Fans can expect most of the professional-wrestling company's biggest stars to be involved, plenty of title matches, and cameos from WWE legends and celebrities here and there. Right now, WWE counts Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns among its most high-profile performers, while Dwayne ' The Rock ' Johnson has repeatedly returned to the company since his switch to acting in the early-mid 2000s. The Rock was a key fixture in WrestleMania season in 2024 and should be this year, too. CM Punk made a huge return to WWE in late 2023 after 10 years away but missed WrestleMania 40 due to injury, and he will hope to compete this year. Also, John Cena is on his 'retirement tour' and is scheduled to challenge Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE title. Here's all you need to know. When is WrestleMania 41? WrestleMania became a two-night event in 2020, and this year it will take place on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 April at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. In the US, each evening of action will begin at 4pm PT / 6pm CT / 7pm ET. In the UK, that works out to 12am BST on Sunday and Monday morning. How can I watch it? WrestleMania 41 will stream live on Netflix in the UK and most territories worldwide, as part of subscribers' existing plans (at no additional cost, in other words). In the US, however, the event will air live on Peacock pay-per-view. In January, all of WWE's shows began streaming live on Netflix in the UK and most territories worldwide; in the US, every show except SmackDown (which remains on the USA Network) also airs on Netflix. Confirmed matches so far Cody Rhodes (Undisputed WWE Champion) vs John Cena Gunther (World Heavyweight Champion) vs Jey Uso Tiffany Stratton (Women's WWE Champion) vs Charlotte Iyo Sky (Women's World Champion) vs Bianca Belair Match lists for each night will be announced closer to the event Will The Rock compete? Last year, The Rock competed in the Night 1 main event of WrestleMania 40, teaming with Roman Reigns to beat Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins. He also interfered in the Night 2 main event: Reigns vs Rhodes. He is not advertised as competing this year, but expect him to feature in some capacity. Why is John Cena a 'bad guy'? In pro wrestling, 'good' characters are called 'babyfaces' and 'bad' characters are 'heels'. Cena spent most of his career as a babyface, having last been a heel in the early-mid 2000s – until February's Elimination Chamber event, where he attacked Rhodes and joined forces with The Rock. This is part of a storyline in which Cena, during his final year as a pro wrestler, is desperate to win a record-breaking 17th world championship. Rhodes is WWE's biggest babyface, while The Rock is a heel authority figure, given Dwayne Johnson's real-life position on the board of TKO (WWE's ownership group). How much do WWE stars earn at WrestleMania? The specifics of WWE contracts have long been hard to ascertain. However, WWE star-turned-executive Triple H (real name Paul Levesque) told The Athletic in 2022 that $250,000 is the minimum base salary for wrestlers in the company. That figure might have risen since, of course, and it reportedly only applied to members of the Smackdown and Raw rosters – not wrestlers on NXT, which is WWE's developmental show. However, wrestlers' wages are boosted by merchandise sales and, it is believed, by cuts of pay-per-view sales as well. Of course, merchandise sales are likely to be significant on a WrestleMania weekend, as well as pay-per-view sales, so 19 and 20 April could be the most lucrative days of the year for most WWE wrestlers. In 2023, The Mirror reported some of the highest WWE wages as these: Roman Reigns $5m per year; Randy Orton $5m per year; Seth Rollins $3.5m per year; Cody Rhodes $3m per year; Logan Paul $2m per year. These figures reportedly don't include bonuses.
