In 2015, the govt included the Srirangam temple in the tentative list submitted to Unesco for the heritage site status. "After inclusion in the tentative list, the next step is formal submission of a nomination dossier by the host country. But, such a nomination was not filed yet despite Srirangam's eligibility and cultural value," the MP said.
Recalling that the Srirangam temple bagged the Award of Merit in Unesco Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation in 2017, the MP said the recognition itself strengthens the case for elevation of the temple as a world heritage site.
The MP also met Union civil aviation minister Rammohan Naidu seeking his intervention in operationalising the air courier cargo facility at Trichy International Airport. The MP said the Airports Authority of India (AAI) should give a ready-to-operate status to the customs department for the cargo operations. "The minister has assured to look into the matter," the MP added.
