Stand-up comedy is a lucrative career. But one may not be able to imagine just how lucrative it is. The fame that stand-up gave to this one comedian was enough to catapult him to a superstardom few have seen. Over the years, it even made him a billionaire, richer than even the top film stars in the world. Jerry Seinfeld, creator and star of the iconic 90s' sitcom Seinfeld, is the richest comedian in the world and the only billionaire in the community. According to Forbes, Seinfeld has a net worth of $1.1 billion, which makes him one of the richest men in Hollywood. The magazine notes that "his fortune comes from his share of the syndication revenue the show generates, as well as income from touring, films and other projects". However, it should be noted that the bulk of Jerry's earnings come from the show's syndication revenue. "Seinfeld and co-creator Larry David reportedly earn 15% of the show's syndication revenue, which includes sales to local television stations and streaming platforms," notes Forbes. Apart from the show, the comedian has acted in only two films - Bee Movie and Unfrosted. The first was a hit while the latter was a commercial failure. Yet, the syndication revenue of Seinfeld is enough to earn Jerry millions. It was estimated that he has earned over $700 million from the show. His other work includes Netflix comedy specials and the successful interview show Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee. Seinfeld's $1.1 billion net worth makes him one of the richest 'actors' in the world even though he has only a few acting credits. The only man ahead of him is Tyler Perry, another occasional actor. Some big names follow, including Shah Rukh Khan ($770 million), Tom Cruise ($600 million), Dwayne Johnson ($400 million), and Johnny Depp ($100 million).

Jay Leno says he enjoys being wife Mavis Leno's caretaker after dementia diagnosis

In a rare interview about his marriage, comedian and TV host Jay Leno is opening up in a big way. After being granted conservatorship over his wife's estate in 2024, Leno is sharing insight about being Mavis Leno's caretaker after she was diagnosed with dementia. During a conversation with the 'In Depth with Graham Bensigner' podcast, Jay Leno shared that this experience with his wife is the first big challenge he's faced in his life. 'When you get married, you sort of take a vow: 'Will I live up to this? Or will I be like a sleazy guy if something happens to my wife...?'' he explained. 'I enjoy the time with my wife. I go home, I cook dinner for her, watch TV and it's okay,' Jay Leno continued. And although he is now considered Mavis Leno's caretaker, the car enthusiast says not much has changed in how he and his wife live their lives. 'It's basically what we did before,' Jay Leno continued, 'except now I have to feed her and do all those things. But, I like it. I like taking care of her. She's a very independent woman, so I like that I'm needed.' But that doesn't mean it hasn't been a complicated journey for the both of them. 'When you have to feed someone and change them and carry them to the bathroom and do all that kind of stuff every day,' he explained. 'It's a challenge. And it's not that I enjoy doing it, but I guess I enjoy doing it.' Jay Leno continued adding that marriage is more than just being attracted to your partner. 'At some point in my life, I'm gonna be called upon to defend myself. I think that's really what defines a marriage,' he explained. 'I mean, that's really what love is. That's what you do. I mean, I'm glad I didn't cut and run. I'm glad I didn't run off with some woman half my age or any of that silly nonsense. I would rather be with her than doing something else.' And when the going does get tough, Jay Leno says it is important that he 'find the humor' in the situation. That includes recalling memories from their past via flashcards he created for Mavis Leno. 'It's kind of fun,' he said of the flashcards. 'I go, 'Honey, that's President Obama. Remember we had dinner?' [She'll say], 'Oh, not me.' [And I'll say], 'Yeah, honey, that was you!'' After filing for conservatorship over his wife in 2024, Mavis Leno's neurologist, Dr. Hart Cohen, confirmed for the courts that Jay Leno is the 'standup guy' he hopes to be, adding that he is 'such a nice man and treats [Mavis] like gold,' People reported. Shortly after being awarded conservatorship, the Leno made a public appearance on the red carpet celebrating Jerry Seinfeld's new Netflix movie 'Unfrosted,' in May 2024. Mavis spoke with Entertainment Tonight, saying, 'I feel great.' 'We wanted to come to something fun for a change,' Jay added. 'Everything is so controversial. Just to come to a funny, silly movie — it's great. I think people are going to have a great time.' Jay and Mavis Leno have been married for nearly 45 years.

Jay Leno reveals challenges he's faced as wife Mavis battles dementia

Jay Leno is a man of his word. The comedian, 74, is the official caretaker for his wife of 45 years, Mavis, after she was diagnosed with dementia and he was granted conservatorship over her last year. Now, Leno is reflecting on that role. 'When you get married, you sort of take a vow: 'Will I live up to this? Or will I be like a sleazy guy if something happens to my wife, I'm out banging the cashier at the mini mart?'' he said while on 'In Depth with Graham Bensinger' on Wednesday. 'No, I didn't. At some point in my life, I'm gonna be called upon to defend myself. I think that's really what defines a marriage. I mean, that's really what love is. That's what you do. 'We go back on YouTube — they have all the 'Headlines' [segments] that we did over the years. And my wife enjoys those, and it's like she forgets that she just saw it, so she laughs again at the same jokes. So for a comedian, that's great.' In 2024, Leno first announced his wife — who he married after meeting at the Comedy Store in the '70s — had advanced dementia and that he was granted conservatorship over her. As noted in court documents, Mavis sometimes does not recognize him, but the television star said 'it's OK.' 8 Jay Leno and wife Mavis Nicholson during the 1993 Emmy Awards. Anybody that's dealt with this knows that,' expressed Leno. 'You know, I enjoy her company. I would still rather be with her than not be with her … But is it ideal? No.' To this day, the spouses — who have no children — still maintain their favorite rituals. 'When 'The Tonight Show' finished, I would just come home every night and work on the monologue and be with my wife, and we'd watch a movie or watch TV,' said Leno. 'And it's pretty much like that now, same thing, except now I just kind of go, 'You know, honey, you know what this movie is about?' You just have to explain.' In April 2024, Mavis' attorney, Robert Ostrin, said she was 'in agreement' with the conservatorship during a hearing at Los Angeles County Superior, per People.
