Talented LSU football running back Trey Holly transfers to FCS program
Former LSU running back Trey Holly transferred to Southern University. There was no news of Holly's move until he was spotted at Southern's practice on Tuesday. The news was later confirmed by
Holly signed with LSU as a member of the 2023 recruiting class, but was suspended in February of 2024 after a shooting in Union Parish. Holly was arrested and originally charged with attempted second-degree murder, illegal use of a weapon, and aggravated criminal damage to property.
The charge of attempted second-degree murder was dropped, but the illegal use of a weapon charge remained.
As Holly awaited trial, he suspension continued indefinitely. The trial faced a couple of holdups. First, the original judge resigned due to a conflict of interest. Then, it was further delayed after the air conditioning system in the courthouse broke.
According to Southern head coach Terrence Graves, Holly is eligible to play for the Jaguars in 2025.
As a freshman in 2023, Holly appeared on offense in three games. He carried the ball 11 times for 110 yards and one score. He caught one pass for five yards.
According to the Rivals Industry Ranking, Holly was the No. 262-ranked recruit and the No. 17-ranked running back in his class. Holly was the most productive running back in Louisiana High School Football history, racking up 10,532 yards in his time with Union Parish.
