Fru crash: Outpouring support continues for grieving families, injured heroes
IPOH: Families and personnel of the Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) from Unit 5 Ipoh, involved in a fatal accident in Teluk Intan on May 13, continue to receive support and donations from various parties. The latest donations were presented today at the Perak Police Senior Officers' Mess on Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah, Ipoh, by Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain and his wife, Puan Sri Datuk Zainah Othman, who is the Police Family Association (Perkep) chairman. Family members, including the widows of the FRU personnel involved, accepted the donations on their behalf. Among the contributors of the donations were the Perak contingent police headquarters; Johor contingent police headquarters; Koperasi Polis Diraja Malaysia; Yayasan Insan Sakan; Malaysian Islamic Economic Development Foundation (YAPEIM); Lumut Maritime Terminal Sdn Bhd, and the Enforcement, Leadership and Management University (ELMU). Razarudin said the donations collected enabled the families or next of kin of the personnel who were killed to receive cash assistance totalling more than RM46,000, while injured personnel received cash support amounting to over RM11,000. "Here, I would like to share that the widows or next of kin of the deceased personnel have each received a compassionate contribution of RM25,000 from the National Heroes and Defence Trust Fund (TAPPN), which was credited on May 23. "Hopefully, this noble gesture will help ease the burden of the bereaved families and the injured personnel," he said. Also present at the event was Perak police chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin. In the incident that occurred at 8.50am on May 13, a FRU lorry carrying 18 personnel from Unit 5, based in Sungai Senam here, was involved in a tragic collision with a gravel-laden lorry while returning from an assignment in Teluk Intan. The accident claimed the lives of nine FRU personnel, while the remaining nine sustained injuries. – Bernama

Cops to call over 60 people in FRU crash probe

(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : Police will record statements from more than 60 people to assist in the investigation into the accident that claimed the lives of nine Federal Reserve Unit personnel on Jalan Chikus-Sungai Lampam in Teluk Intan, Perak, yesterday morning. Hilir Perak police chief Bakri Zainal Abidin said police would call FRU members who were at the scene of the accident, as well as the owner of the lorry company to aid the investigation. 'This is to avoid biased investigations and so on. I also call on the public to come forward to provide information that can assist our investigation. 'We will look at (the investigation) from all angles, namely human negligence, technical issues involving the vehicle, as well as environmental issues,' Bernama reported him as saying today. Bakri said an FRU member from Unit 5 Ipoh was placed in Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital's intensive care unit due to internal bleeding and head and abdominal injuries. He said eight more injured FRU personnel are still being treated at Teluk Intan Hospital. Earlier this morning, the final honours for the nine who died were completed in accordance with police ceremonial protocol at the FRU Unit 5 base in Sungai Senam, Ipoh. In the 8.50am incident yesterday, a lorry carrying gravel collided with an FRU truck transporting 15 personnel. Preliminary investigations suggest that the accident was caused by a steering wheel failure.

FRU Truck Crash: Perak Govt To Provide Assistance For Funeral Arrangements
TELUK INTAN, May 13 (Bernama) -- The Perak government will provide initial assistance to the families of the Royal Malaysian Police's (PDRM) Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) personnel involved in the fatal crash here this morning. State Education, Higher Education, Youth, and Sports Committee chairman, Khairudin Abu Hanipah, representing Perak Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, said that the initial assistance is intended for the funeral arrangements of the victims involved in the accident. 'Insya-Allah, in the next Exco meeting, perhaps the Menteri Besar will discuss with the members to explore other ways of assisting the affected families, and those affected during this difficult time. 'The state government will channel this contribution as a sign of deep concern, as well as for the funeral arrangements and other related processes, and we will announce further details shortly,' he said. He said this after visiting the Forensic Department at Teluk Intan Hospital, where he offered words of comfort to the family members of the victims involved in the 8.50 am accident, which involved a truck carrying 15 FRU personnel from Unit 5 Ipoh and a lorry carrying gravel stones. Meanwhile, Khairudin said that he was representing the state government and the Menteri Besar in expressing heartfelt condolences for the tragic incident, which was deeply heartbreaking. 'It is hoped that the families will remain strong in facing this incredibly difficult ordeal. We pray that the souls of the victims be blessed and placed among the righteous. 'For those injured, may they remain steadfast. Insya-Allah, we will pray together for their full recovery,' he said. Earlier today, Hilir Perak police chief ACP Dr Bakri Zainal Abidin said that nine FRU members, from Unit 5 Ipoh, were killed in an accident on Jalan Chikus-Sungai Lampam, while returning to Ipoh after an assignment in conjunction with the Chitirai Pournami celebration here.
