With Upcoming Space Launch, Adventurer Jaime Alemán Set to Complete the "Grand Slam" of Travel

Having Visited All 193 Countries and Both Poles, Alemán Now Eyes Space and a Human First HOUSTON, May 25, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Jaime Alemán of Panama, a distinguished lawyer and former senior diplomat, is about to make history—again. The pioneering space company Blue Origin announced this week that Mr. Alemán will be among the crew aboard its next suborbital mission, set to launch in the coming weeks. At age 73, this voyage to space will mark the final leg of Alemán's extraordinary, decades-long journey: visiting every country on Earth, setting foot on both the North and South Poles, and now, reaching the edge of space. "I didn't set out on this quest to set a record," said Mr. Alemán. "I did it as a challenge to myself. I wanted to experience our planet in the most intimate way possible—through its boundless beauty, magic, and people. Going to space lets me take all of that in, to see the Earth not as different nations and races and creeds, but as our one home." Upon completion of the flight, Mr. Alemán is expected to become the first person in history to achieve this unique trifecta: all 193 United Nations-recognized countries, both polar extremes, and outer space. An application for official recognition has been submitted to Guinness World Records. A Life of Purpose, A Journey Without Borders Alemán's lifelong pursuit has not only been about travel—it's been about curiosity, diplomacy, and connecting cultures. His adventures have spanned from remote Himalayan villages to war-torn capitals, from desert caravans in the Sahara to scientific outposts in Antarctica. And soon, they will extend beyond Earth. About Jaime Alemán Jaime Alemán is a lawyer, global traveler, former Ambassador of Panama to the United States, and founder of Alemán, Cordero, Galindo & Lee (Alcogal)—one of Latin America's leading law firms. Egypt repatriates 71 citizens from Libya amid Tripoli unrest - Society

Egypt has repatriated 71 nationals from Libya following recent unrest in the capital, Tripoli, the foreign ministry stated on Saturday. The citizens, who had registered with the Egyptian embassy in Tripoli requesting to return home, were flown back on an EgyptAir flight. The evacuation comes amid escalating tensions between rival armed groups in the city. The ministry said the move followed directives from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to monitor the welfare of Egyptians in Libya, ensure their safety, and assist those wishing to return. Clashes erupted in Tripoli on 12 May, raising fears of further escalation. The Egyptian foreign ministry has set up an operations room to track developments, support citizens on the ground, and respond to their needs. Libya remains divided between a United Nations-recognized government in Tripoli and a rival administration in the east. Despite periods of relative calm since the 2011 uprising, violence continues to flare between competing armed factions. Follow us on: Facebook Instagram Whatsapp Short link:

Holland America Line hosts high tea at sea featuring a new blend

Every year on May 21, tea lovers around the globe tilt their cups, pinkies in the air, to celebrate International Tea Day. It's a United Nations-recognized day that shines a spotlight on the cultural, economic, and historical importance of one of the world's oldest and most beloved beverages. It's also a chance to explore how tea continues to inspire innovation, whether through sustainability, wellness, or luxury experiences on land and now at sea. While you might be more likely to associate a Tiki Margarita with a cruise than you would a cup of tea, cruise lines are always looking for new ways to add culturally rich guest experiences and that includes a traditional sea service. Sign up for the Come Cruise With Me newsletter to save money on your next (or your first) cruise. Holland America Line (CCL) , known for its deep maritime roots and elegant onboard offerings, has unveiled a new partnership that will elevate its signature tea service across its entire fleet. The cruise line is introducing a bespoke tea blend created in collaboration with luxury tea purveyor Art of Tea. This move taps into a growing trend in the cruise industry, where curated culinary and beverage experiences are becoming a way for cruise lines to distinguish themselves and draw travelers looking for more than a basic experience. Few traditions evoke elegance like afternoon tea. With a handcrafted tea designed to offer both flavor and cultural depth the new custom blend, called The Dutch Tea Time Blend, will be available during the line's Royal Dutch Tea, regional tea events, and standard afternoon services, as well as in gift shops and online. For travelers seeking a refined escape, this latest offering is one more reason cruising continues to be a top choice for discerning vacationers looking for elevated, memorable experiences at sea. Handcrafted with the finest botanicals, the new blend captures the warmth, authenticity and flavor of a classic Dutch tea experience, bringing together history, craftsmanship and indulgence. Related: Oceania Cruises holiday voyages are a gift for luxury-minded travelers When Holland America Line's Senior Manager of Beverage and Dining Operations and Innovation, Drew Foulk, and Art of Tea Founder and CEO Steve Schwartz set out to create this custom blend, they wanted to honor Holland America Line's roots. To achieve this, they traveled to Amsterdam to answer the question: What is an authentic Dutch blend? During their trip, the two experts tasted various local blends, visited the famous outdoor Albert Cuyp Market to explore Dutch flavors and florals, and spent time with Tess Posthumus, one of Holland America Line's global beverage program partners. Posthumus provided a comprehensive history of Amsterdam's drinking culture, including the Netherlands' role in introducing coffee and tea to the world through the Dutch East Indies Company. "Along the journey, one particular expression that really resonated with us is that there are two Dutch words used across the globe and are present in almost all languages in one shape or form--these words being coffee and tea," said Foulk. "Steve and I spent a lot of time uncovering the history and influence that Amsterdam has played in the spice trade and have thought about how this history can be translated into a tea blend for all our guests to enjoy." The Dutch Blend will be featured during every afternoon tea service in the main dining room on board all Holland America Line ships, making it an experience too good to hurry through. Royal Dutch Tea is served on the first sea day of each voyage. A regionally themed afternoon tea is offered on the second sea day. For voyages lasting seven days or longer, a standard afternoon tea service is also available on the third sea day. Guests can also enjoy this bespoke blend at all coffee and specialty dining outlets while sailing. Be the first to see the best deals on cruises, special sailings, and more. Sign up for the Come Cruise With Me newsletter. Additionally, it will be part of the cruise line's tea sampler pack, available for purchase in the ship gift shops, allowing guests to take home a taste of their voyage. The final blend is a traditional robust black tea with notes of orange, bergamot, marigold, and rose hips. It will be available to guests fleetwide when they board their next voyage. Violent Clashes Erupt in Libya After Top Official Assassinated

Rival gunman exchanged fire in Libya's capital following the killing of a local militia leader in clashes which have prompted international calls for calm. The violence followed the killing of Abdel Ghani al-Kikli, also known as "Gheniwa," who is the head of the powerful Stability Support Authority (SSA) militia. The SSA is under the Presidential Council, which came to power in 2021 with the Government of National Unity (GNU) through a United Nations-recognized process. The U.N. called for a de-escalation on Tuesday after heavy gunfire and explosions rocked Tripoli's southern districts on Monday evening, Al Jazeera reported. This is a developing story and will be updated shortly.
