Women in all conflict zones deserve protection: Al Misnad
QNA Awaza Minister of State for International Cooperation HE Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad has stressed that women in conflict zones deserve protection, safety, and a peaceful life. This came as the Minister of State for International Cooperation participated in the Women Leaders Forum, held on the sidelines of the United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, in the city of Awaza, Turkmenistan, with the presence of Vice President of the Charitable Foundation for Assistance to Children in Need of Care Oguljahan Atabayeva. In her speech at the forum, Al Misnad emphasized that speaking about justice for women anywhere is incomplete without speaking about justice for the women of Gaza. Al Misnad stressed that the women of Gaza are deprived of the most basic human needs, including education, safety, sanitation, and dignity, they face the threat of famine, and their children go to sleep hungry, burdened by trauma, with their childhoods stolen from them. She pointed out that the State of Qatar fully understands that empowering women is not merely a matter of justice and fairness, but a fundamental pillar of resilient, inclusive, and sustainable development. She affirmed that women do not wait for an invitation to participate; rather, they are already playing leadership roles across various sectors including government, diplomacy, education, business, and innovation. Al Misnad explained that Qatar's national strategy was designed to enable women to realize their full potential through progressive policies that ensure protection for mothers, equal pay, pathways to leadership, and work environments that respect and support women. She explained in this context that one of the most inspiring examples of this is the vision of Chairperson of the Education Above All Foundation HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, whose pioneering work through the foundation has enabled millions of children deprived of education, especially in the least developed countries, to access their right to education, while preserving their dignity and opening new horizons for their future, noting that Her Highness's leadership embodies a profound truth: When women participate in development, entire societies rise. She underscored that nearly half of the population in landlocked developing countries are women, yet for a long time, they have been asked to achieve more with fewer resources. The time has come to change that, she added, stressing that if they are serious about achieving the goals of the Programme of Action for Landlocked Developing Countries, they must invest in women and support their passion, because the future we build with them will be stronger and more prosperous.

Waleed Al-Khuraiji, participated in the third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs), held in Awaza, Turkmenistan, on Wednesday. In his address, Al-Khuraiji emphasized the importance of fostering international cooperation and building strategic alliances to help stabilize the global economy and promote sustainable development, particularly in landlocked developing nations facing geographic and infrastructure challenges. He reiterated the Kingdom's ongoing commitment to global economic sustainability, highlighting the need for collective international efforts to tackle economic obstacles in trade, connectivity, development, and transportation that hinder sustainable growth. Al-Khuraiji said Saudi Arabia prioritizes sustainable development through Vision 2030 and is committed to implementing global development goals via smart investments and sustainable projects. He underscored that the Kingdom actively engages in global organizations and multilateral blocs to advance development-oriented relations and strengthen cooperation between nations. He also called for greater international support to facilitate LLDCs' integration into global markets, reinforcing global peace, stability, and prosperity.

Turkmenistan's Avaza hosts UN conference on landlocked countries
Turkmenistan's Avaza National Tourist Zone is hosting the third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries from August 4 to 8. The conference focuses on structural challenges faced by the world's 32 landlocked developing countries, which are home to over 600 million people. The conference was opened by Turkmenistan's National Leader and Chairman of the People's Council Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, together with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, President of the 79th UN General Assembly session Philemon Yang, and representatives from international organizations and participating countries. Speaking at the opening ceremony, Guterres underlined the urgency of reducing global inequalities. 'These inequalities are not inevitable. This conference is not about obstacles — it is about solutions,' Guterres said. 'It is about launching a new decade of ambition — through the Avaza Program of Action — and fully unlocking the development potential of landlocked developing countries.' The UN chief called for bold action to support landlocked economies. 'Despite representing 7 percent of the world's population, LLDCs account for just over 1 percent of the global economy and trade — a stark example of deep inequalities that perpetuate marginalization," according to UN Secretary-General Guterres. UN officials aim to resolve this disparity through stronger partnerships and infrastructure investments. Located on the Caspian Sea coast near the port city of Turkmenbashi in western Turkmenistan, Avaza serves as a growing hub for wellness, leisure, and ecological tourism. Turkmenistan says the site shows its commitment to linking international diplomacy with regional development, with tourism as a key driver of the nation's socio-economic progress. Turkmenistan's President Serdar Berdimuhamedov cited the historic conference on the shores of the Caspian and noted it as symbolic to promote peace, development and global cooperation in the International Year of Peace and Trust, a UN initiative proposed by Turkmenistan. Berdimuhamedov also said that the gathering shows unity with the goals of peace, progress and well-being. Meanwhile, Berdimuhamedov met with Guterres to reaffirm Turkmenistan's support for sustainable development and global integration on the sidelines of the event.
