Flour supplies in Gaza depleted: UN agency

Gaza: The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) said on Sunday that its flour supplies in Gaza have been depleted as Israel continues to restrict the entry of food and humanitarian aid. "UNRWA flour supplies also ran out earlier this week," it said on social media platform X. "Hunger is getting worse in Gaza. People, including many children, are hoping to get some food to survive through the warm meals distributed by charities." "About 3,000 of our trucks loaded with life-saving aid are ready to enter Gaza," it said, reiterating its call for lifting the blockade on the enclave to allow the delivery of urgent assistance to more than two million Palestinians, Xinhua news agency reported. Israel has blocked the entry of all humanitarian aid into Gaza since March 2. It then ended a two-month ceasefire with Hamas on March 18 and resumed deadly air and ground assaults on the enclave. The renewed Israeli attacks have so far killed 2,151 Palestinians and injured 5,598 others, Gaza health authorities said on Sunday, adding the death toll in the enclave since the war began in October 2023 has risen to 52,243, with 117,639 injured. On Friday, the UN World Food Programme said it had run out of food stocks in Gaza, as border crossings remain closed. UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini said that Palestinian children in the blockaded Gaza are starving. "The government of Israel continues to block the entry of food and other basics," he said. "A manmade and politically motivated starvation." "Calls to bring in supplies are going unheeded." Since March 2, Israel has kept Gaza's crossings closed to food, medical, and humanitarian aid, deepening the humanitarian catastrophe, according to government, human rights, and international reports. "This is the longest closure the Gaza Strip has ever faced, exacerbating already fragile markets and food systems," it said, adding: "People are running out of ways to cope, and the fragile gains made during the short ceasefire have unravelled." The news comes after the World Food Programme in late March said that all of its 25 bakeries in the Gaza Strip had shut down because of a lack of fuel and flour in the territory. Israel says its blockade is crucial to its goal of weakening Hamas' control over the population, while Israeli officials have repeatedly said there is "no shortage" of aid in Gaza and accused the militant group of withholding supplies.

Lazaryny: Gaza children starving as Israel persistently denies access to food

New York - Saba: Gaza's children are starving due to the deliberate starvation policy pursued by Israel, Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) said on Friday, as the occupier has continued to close the crossings to the Strip and prevent the entry of food and other essentials since March 2. "In Gaza, children are starving," Philippe Lazaryny added in statements via the X platform. "The Israeli government continues to block the entry of food and other essentials. This is a man-made, politically motivated starvation." Earlier Friday, the United Nations World Food Program announced that its food stocks in Gaza had completely run out due to the blockade. Lazaryny also explained that the tightened blockade imposed by Israel since March 2nd is nearing its second month. He concluded by saying that this continues while "calls for the entry of supplies fall on deaf ears." Whatsapp Telegram Email Print

Six reported killed in Israeli attack in northern Gaza

At least six people have been killed and others injured in an Israeli attack in northern Gaza, a spokesman for the Hamas-controlled Palestinian civil defence agency said on Thursday. The spokesman accused Israeli forces of having bombarded a former school building being used to house refugees in Jabalia. The school was formerly operated by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), which Israeli authorities accuse of harbouring Hamas operatives. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said the target was a Hamas command centre in the area which had planned attacks on Israeli civilians. It added that steps were taken ahead of the attack to protect the civilian population. The IDF accused Hamas of abusing civilian infrastructure and using civilians as human shields. It did not detail casualties. The IDF also said that the Israeli Air Force hit more than 110 targets over recent days. The Hamas-controlled health authority in Gaza said 40 people were killed in the past 24 hours, bringing the death toll in the conflict to 51,065. The war in Gaza broke out when Hamas and other militant Palestinian organizations launched a surprise attack from the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023. Israeli hostages taken during the attack are still being held by Hamas.

Israeli War on Gaza Continues, Death Toll Increases

The death toll in the Gaza Strip has reached 50,912, the majority of whom were women and children, since the beginning of the Israeli aggression in October 2023. At least 115,981 others have also been injured. Medical sources confirmed that of the total casualties, 1,542 civilians have been killed and 3,940 have been injured since March 18, 2025, when the Israeli occupation resumed its aggression on the Gaza Strip following the ceasefire agreement. Sources stated that the bodies of 26 slain civilians, including six that were recovered, along with 106 injured individuals, were brought to hospitals in Gaza during the past 24 hours. This toll remains incomplete, as many victims remain trapped under rubble, inaccessible to ambulance and rescue crews. The Israeli occupation issued new forcible 'evacuation orders' on Friday for civilians in several areas of Gaza City. Local sources reported that the Israeli occupation ordered residents in the neighborhoods of Zeitoun, Shuja'iyya and Al-Tuffah, located in the eastern part of Gaza City, to immediately leave their homes and head westward towards the outskirts of the city. The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) said that an estimated 400,000 people have been displaced in the Gaza Strip following the breakdown of the ceasefire. 'They are now also enduring by far the longest blockage of aid and commercial supplies since the start of the war,' said UNRWA in a post on X. UNRWA called for the immediate renewal of the ceasefire and the unimpeded flow of humanitarian aid and commercial supplies. Since March 2, the Israeli occupation has obstructed the entry of vital supplies, including food and water, into the Gaza Strip following the closure of crossings. This has led to a catastrophic humanitarian crisis, intensifying hunger and thirst among the population.
