Dr Wan Azizah awarded Lifetime Achievement Award in Ophthalmology
KUALA LUMPUR: The country's first female deputy prime minister, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, has been awarded the 2025 Lifetime Achievement Award in Ophthalmology. The award was presented to her at the Malaysian Ophthalmology Scientific Congress (MOSC) 2025 here today. Dr Wan Azizah, the wife of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, studied medicine at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, where she graduated as a qualified ophthalmologist. In her speech at the event, which was themed "United We Stand: One Vision for Malaysia", Dr Wan Azizah said ophthalmologists were privileged to restore one of life's most precious gifts. "We are able to see the faces of our loved ones, the beauty of our country, and the hope of the future," said the Bandar Tun Razak Member of Parliament. She said the congress reflected the strength of collaboration and the significant impact that could be achieved when expertise and resources are unified. Dr Wan Azizah said findings from the 2023 National Eye Survey indicated a significant reduction in cases of preventable blindness. "The rate of blindness decreased from 1.6 per cent to 0.8 per cent in the East Coast states, and from 2.1 per cent to 0.6 per cent in Sarawak, reflecting a very encouraging achievement," she said. She added that maintaining eye health in the country was a shared responsibility. "Both public and private hospitals play an important role in ensuring that quality eye care is accessible to all," she said. Dr Wan Azizah said she hoped the recognition given to her today would inspire everyone, particularly young doctors, to continue striving for personal and professional growth. "Let us seize the opportunity to learn from one another, build strong networks, and inspire the next generation of ophthalmologists to achieve excellence," she said.

‘United We Stand' rally marches through Siouxland
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — 'United We Stand,' a rally and march for solidarity and change, traveled about two miles from South Sioux City to the Federal Building in Sioux City. There were about 50 marchers holding up signs and voicing chants. Organizers said this was a nonviolent event, with multiple speakers raising concerns about the government. 'My kids, they go by Lopez-Walker too. So you know getting the card is a real thing,' she said. 'Having those talks with the kids is a real thing. My little girl got up for school and she was like 'oh my God, I have to go save my friend, where's my ID?' And we shouldn't have to have those kinds of talks, but here we are.' The marchers stopped at three different locations: the Siouxland Veterans Memorial Bridge, the Anderson Dance Pavilion, and the Federal Building in Sioux City. At each stop, a speech and a prayer were given. Another rally will be held on Saturday with a different organization. That one will go from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Federal Building in Sioux City. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Bay County Democrats protest against Trump Administration
BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) – Changes are coming fast and furious from the Trump Administration, and some people don't like it. The Bay County Democratic party staged a demonstration this afternoon to voice their opposition to some of Trump's executive orders. They gathered at the corner of East 23rd Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard for the 'United We Stand' demonstration. Democrats gathered nationwide on President's Day to bring attention to the current president's actions. Some of the local demonstrators say they're most concerned about Elon Musk's role in cutting government spending and the effects it could have on social security. It's going to affect millions and millions and millions of Americans. If they do and they're going to do it with if they do it the way they're doing everything else without any consideration or thought, then we're going to have a problem. It's going to be a mess,' Democratic Women's Club Former President Beverly Wall said. Democrats claim the Trump Administration plans to close social security offices, including Bay County's. They also say they're worried Musk and his team will have complete access to every American's personal information, including social security numbers, medical records, and other personal information.
