The vivo X Fold5 will weigh less than X Fold3's 219g as teaser video shows
The leading makers of foldables are in a race to slim down their devices – not just in terms of thickness but also in weight. vivo exec Boxiao Han shared a video of the vivo X Fold3 and the upcoming X Fold5 being weighed on a scale and the new model is clearly lighter. How light? Well, the X Fold3 is 219g, but no official number was given for the new model – so all we can say with certainty is that the vivo X Fold5 will be less than that. It has been more than a year since the release of vivo X Fold3. Now vivo X Fold5 will be released in June, weighing less than 219g, and will become the lightest big folding machine in the world. However, it is said that 8Gen3 chip is still used, which may indicate that the price… — ICE CAT (@UniverseIce) June 3, 2025 According to leaked specs, the X Fold5 will measure 4.3mm when opened and 9.33mm when closed. The X Fold3 is 4.7mm and 10.2mm, respectively. There are already devices that are thinner than that, e.g. the Oppo Find N5 is 4.2mm/8.9mm, but it weighs 229g. IceUniverse claims that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 will measure 4.2mm/8.9mm. So, it will be thinner than the vivo, but how much will it weigh? That's TBD at the moment. Anyway, back to the leaked specs – the vivo X Fold5 will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, apparently, the same chip as on the Fold3 Pro. It will be paired with up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB storage. The phone will have a triple 50MP camera on the back, including a 3x telephoto, and two 32MP selfies (one on each screen). vivo X Fold5 (left) and X Fold3 (right) We took some screenshots of the video (above) and you can see that the vivo X Fold5 is indeed thinner than the X Fold3. However, the phone is shown with its main screen up, which doesn't reveal much detail. That screen will be an 8.03' 120Hz '2K+' panel, while the cover display will be a 6.53' 120Hz LTPO OLED. The battery is said to have 6,000mAh capacity, 90W wired and 30W wireless charging. This hasn't been confirmed officially yet, but the vivo X Fold5 (alongside the X200 FE) are expected to be unveiled on July 10, just over a month from now. Source (in Chinese) | Via

Samsung's One UI 7 Nightmare—When Will Upgrades Restart?
What a week for Galaxy S24 owners. Samsung's long-delayed Android 15 release and excellent Oner UI 7 wrap have been under intense scrutiny as the upgrade schedule has slipped further and further behind Pixels and other OEMs. It finally hit this week, only to be pulled almost immediately with a 'serious bug.' Something of a nightmare come true for the company, and delaying critical security updates coming to millions of flagship phones. Samsung's Galaxy S24 users who are due that upgrade now will be surprised to learn that it will likely resume today, meaning the delay was just 24-hours and not any longer. That said, the release schedule for all but the more recent flagships does show longer delays than expected before all phones will be running the latest OS. The notable tipster @UniverseIce, who first shared news of the upgrade stall, posted early on April 15 that 'One UI 7 will be pushed to S24 series users today.' When asked about the stall, Samsung told me 'the One UI 7 rollout schedule is being updated to ensure the best possible experience. The new timing and availability will be shared shortly.' While there's no official confirmation that it has resumed again today, there's no reason yet to assume a longer delay. SamMobile summed up the mood on April 14; 'This reflects poorly on Samsung, as the company couldn't manage a bug-free release for One UI 7.0 despite months of testing in multiple countries. For the Galaxy S24, the company released six beta updates as part of the One UI 7.0 Beta Program. The Galaxy Z Flip 6 and the Galaxy Z Fold 6 also received multiple beta updates, but Samsung wasn't able to eliminate all the critical bugs.' Kudos to Samsung for moving quickly. The Galaxy-maker will be hoping now for a smooth rollout all the way through to the last devices in June, and then a much smoother running with its Android 16 / One UI 8 rollout expected not long afterwards.

Samsung's Android 15 Upgrade Abruptly Halted, Affecting Millions Of Galaxy S24 Users
Samsung has suddenly halted the roll-out of its One UI 7 software update, which contains Android 15. A 'serious bug' has been found in the One UI 7 release, it's claimed, after a matter of days. It's not yet clear how big the problem is, but here's what we know. Samsung Galaxy S24+ One UI 7 is already on the latest flagship phones, the Samsung Galaxy S25 series, and has been since those phones went on sale at the beginning of the year. But the roll-out to other phones, including millions of Samsung Galaxy S24 handsets, only started in the last few days, with U.S. users receiving it from Thursday, April 10. It stopped again days later when problems arose. Regular leaker @UniverseIce comments that the change was 'Sudden,' in a recent post. 'After the Korean Galaxy S24 series firmware was pushed, a serious bug was found, which led to the suspension of the push plan in all other countries, including China,' they explain. This despite six major and two minor beta updates which, you might have thought, would have caught anything serious. A later post on X from the same source claimed to know what was happening. 'The reason for the delay in the Galaxy S24 push is that users of the official version of One UI7 of the Korean S24 series found that 'they could not be unlocked normally in some cases.' Samsung urgently reviewed the firmware withdrawal in other countries,' they explained. Right now, Samsung has yet to confirm that the rollout has been halted, or acknowledge the issue though more sources are now saying that the rollout has been stalled. At first, it seemed that the problem was limited to users with Galaxy S24 models powered by the Exynos 2400 chip, but it now appears it also applies to those phones with Qualcomm Snapdragon processors. One UI 7 has been a long time coming and this hiccup doesn't speed things along —and may also have ramifications for users with older phones such as the Galaxy S23. So, what to do? If you've installed the update, look out for a patch to fix any issues. If you haven't, hang tight (and practice patience a little longer).

Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge specs continue to leak as launch nears
Samsung is preparing to launch another flagship model, the Galaxy S25 Edge. This slim phone was originally teased at the launch of the Galaxy S25 in January, with rumors pointing to an April 16 launch date for the new device. So far we've seen a range of specs for the phone, but thanks to a reliable leaker, it looks like we're closer to some of the details. According to UniverseIce, posting on Weibo, the Galaxy S25 Edge will come with a titanium alloy frame. This isn't the first time that titanium has been suggested: we previously covered news of the colors of the S25 Edge, which are said to be Titanium Icyblue, Titanium Silver and Titanium Jetblack. You'll notice that these follow the styling of the Galaxy S25 Ultra, which also uses titanium in its construction. While there was some debate about the expected choice of materials – aluminum and ceramic had been hinted – it now looks like we're set on titanium. That makes perfect sense: if you're creating a premium thin and light phone, then titanium is the best material for the job. That's not the only detail that UniverseIce has shared, however. The leak also claims that the phone will come with a 2K display, suggesting that it's going to have a resolution of 3120 x 1400 pixels. It's expected to be a 6.7-inch display, so it's probably the same as the Galaxy S25 Plus screen. It's thought that Samsung will launch the Galaxy S25 Edge to compete with the anticipated iPhone Air, but use it to trial the design before replacing the regular Galaxy S models with a slimmer build, perhaps in 2026. We're expecting this to be a Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy phone. I'd want to see a big vapor chamber in there for cooling – especially as SD 8 Elite seems to run a little warm – but that might explain why the battery shrinks to 3,786mAh. That's smaller than the Galaxy S25 which has a 4,000mAh battery. It seems that battery life could be the sacrifice we're asked to make for going slim… If that 6.7-inch display is the same as the S25 Plus then it will be a 120Hz AMOLED with 2,600 nits peak brightness. The cameras are expected to be a 200-megapixel main and 12-megapixel ultrawide. The phone is said to cost around $1,400, which sounds pretty expensive and might not see enthusiastic adoption, but it feels like there's still a bit to learn about Samsung's plans to slim down its phones.
