Image via Gymnastics Now: Lorenzo Bonicelli Olympic fans around the globe were left stunned earlier this week after Italian gymnast Lorenzo Bonicelli suffered a life-threatening injury at the 2025 FISU World University Games in Rhine-Ruhr, Germany. While attempting a high-risk triple backflip dismount during the men's team all-around event, the 23-year-old landed awkwardly on his neck, leading to a severe injury that required him to be placed in a medically induced coma. The shocking incident unfolded during an event that brought together over 8,500 student-athletes competing across 18 sports. Bonicelli was pushing hard to earn a spot on Italy's national team for the upcoming 2025 World Championships in Jakarta. Lorenzo Bonicelli Is Currently Stable and in the Process of Rehabilitation The Italian was carried out on a stretcher as soon as the fall occurred. As mentioned, the 23-year-old underwent emergency surgery and was put into a medically induced coma. He remains in intensive care as of now, but is fortunately making constant progress. The Italian Gymnastics Federation said in an official statement on Friday, "Lorenzo Bonicelli's condition is stable and his life is not in danger…..From the University Hospital in Essen... we (learned) that today, the athlete, who remained conscious after the accident until the moment of surgery, was awakened from a medically-induced coma and is showing positive signs.' Moreover, Bonicelli's family is also present with him at the University Hospital of Essen. Apart from this, Italy has officially withdrawn from the competition with the athletes set to return to their home country on 27th July. Who Is Lorenzo Bonicelli? The 23-Year-Old Gymnastics Prodigy From Italy Lorenzo Bonicelli is a 23-year-old gymnast from Lecco, Italy, representing the Ghislanzoni GAL gymnastics club. Baby lucky to be alive after pram falls 50 metres down mountain
The pushchair started uncontrollably rolling down the steep slope after the mother (23) stopped to open a gate into a field at around 12.55pm on July 14, police said. It tumbled nearly 50 metres and overturned several times before crashing. 'The baby was thrown from the pushchair,' a police spokesperson said. Police are investigating the incident but have not yet spoken to the family, who are in shock, Austria's national public broadcaster ORF reported. The family of three had been hiking in the Tyrolean Alps in the Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis area. The incident happened on the way to Frommes Alp in Fiss municipality, according to German newspaper Kolner Stadt-Anzeiger. The Fiss mountain rescue team happened to be nearby and rushed to help. They gave the baby first aid and helped the family down the slope. The baby received emergency treatment at the Zams hospital, after which the child was taken by helicopter to the University Hospital in Innsbruck. Hospital spokesman Johannes Schwamberger told local media the baby was injured but not in a life-threatening condition. The child is in a paediatric intensive care unit 'for safety and observation', he said. 'Considering the severity of the accident, the child was extremely lucky,' Mr Schwamberger added.

Thousands of Brits had ‘organs removed unnecessarily' while cancers were missed in major hospital errors, NHS says
THOUSANDS of breast cancer patients may have had unnecessary mastectomies or had their cancer missed, a major investigation into a hospital trust has found. The County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust said it was "truly sorry" after it was revealed that some women under its care had "more extensive surgery than was clinically necessary at the time". 4 4 The probe also found that some patients' tumours were missed after they received the wrong kind of biopsy. Others weren't offered chemotherapy or had lymph nodes removed when it wasn't clinically necessary. The review has so far identified 200 cases where errors in care might have occurred. But the trust said thousands of cases dating back to 2019 could come to light and that a number of deaths were also being looked into, according to the BBC. Patients affected mainly received care at the University Hospital of North Durham, one of the hospitals the trust operates. Kathryn Burn, executive director of nursing, said: 'We know that some patients have not received the standard of care that we would want for them, or that they deserve. "We have identified areas where improvement was needed – including how surgical decisions were made, how our multidisciplinary teams worked and where some outdated practices were still in use. 'For some patients, this may have resulted in more extensive surgery than was clinically necessary at the time. "We fully recognise how distressing this is to hear, and we are truly sorry." Kathryn said changes were already being made to improve breast cancer care in the trust's hospitals. Jessie J breaks down in tears in heartbreaking hospital video as she has surgery after breast cancer diagnosis This includes appointing two new consultant breast surgeons and investing in more modern equipment. County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust launched a review into its breast cancer care services in February 2025 after "a patient safety incident", it said in a statement published on its website. It also commissioned an external review conducted by the Royal College of Surgeons (RCS). This followed a Northern Cancer Alliance peer review completed between April and June 2024, which suggested the trust was "an outlier in some aspects of breast care delivery". 4 The RCS team visited hospitals in January this year and published their report in April. It revealed that some patients had mastectomies that may not have been necessary. Some received the wrong kind of biopsy - procedures that check if a tumour is cancerous. In one case, RCS said clinical records showed this led to "a small breast cancer" being missed and "subsequent delays in diagnosis and treatment". The report also identified incidents where chemotherapy should have been offered to patients when it should have and "there was no documented reasons in the surgical or multidisciplinary team notes as to why it was not received". In addition, some patients had surgery to remove lymph nodes when not clinically necessary. The RCS made 21 recommendations for improvements in its report. The trust also conducted its own "look back exercise" into breast cancer care at its hospitals, which is still ongoing. What are the signs of breast cancer? BREAST cancer is the most common type of cancer in the UK. The majority of women who get it are over 50, but younger women and, in rare cases, men can also get breast cancer. If it's treated early enough, breast cancer can be prevented from spreading to other parts of the body. Breast cancer can have a number of symptoms, but the first noticeable symptom is usually a lump or area of thickened breast tissue. Most breast lumps aren't cancerous, but it's always best to have them checked by your doctor. You should also speak to your GP if you notice any of the following: a change in the size or shape of one or both breasts discharge from either of your nipples (which may be streaked with blood) a lump or swelling in either of your armpits dimpling on the skin of your breasts a rash on or around your nipple a change in the appearance of your nipple, such as becoming sunken into your breast Source: NHS It found "two cases in which patients were initially discharged from the service following a diagnostic test but later re-represented with cancer that was missed on the first occasion". It also flagged instances of "excessive surgery, unnecessary invasive surgery and a failure to consider all options, including breast reconstruction". Areas where improvements were needed included how surgical decisions were made and ending the use of outdated practices, the trust said. Kathryn said: 'Over the past four months, we have been reviewing the care of patients who had surgery through the breast service in 2024. "Where we have concerns about the care a patient received, we are contacting them directly and personally about this. "Patients whose care has been reviewed and found to be appropriate are also being contacted to provide reassurance. "Since February, we have reviewed – with the support of external experts – 123 individual cases of care. "We have spoken with more than 80 patients to openly discuss elements which could have been done differently and been improved. 'This work is not yet complete, and we continue to review patient notes. "We have also set up a patient call line and email address where any patients who have questions or concerns about their care can get in touch with us to share their experience.' 4 Kathryn told the BBC that the trust was looking at the investigation"from a clinical urgency perspective" and it had made "a lot of improvements". "We are looking back systematically through clinical priority where we feel there might be more risk to our patients," she said. She added: 'We are incredibly grateful to the patients who have taken the time to speak with us, to share their experiences and to raise concerns. "Listening to these experiences has been a vital part of learning and improving. 'The review is still ongoing and we remain committed to speaking directly with any patient whose care warrants follow-up.

Terrifying fury of aggressive dog that viciously mauled owner leaving her with severe life-threatening injuries
The terrifying fury of an out-of-control dog that left its owner fighting for life after a horrific attack has been caught on video. A woman in her 20s was mauled at her San Antonio home late on Wednesday night. Dramatic footage shows the aggressive animal lashing out at police officers as they try to bring it under control. The as yet unnamed victim suffered life-threatening injuries during the attack and was rushed to University Hospital where she remains in a critical condition. Footage captured at the scene show the woman being lifted onto a stretcher from her home by emergency teams. Officers told Kens5 that the dog was being aggressive towards a friend that the woman had over, and after trying to put the dog on her balcony it turned on her. It is unclear at this time if the woman's friend was also injured in the attack, Daily Mail has approached San Antonio Police Department for more information. The hound was taken into the custody of the city's Animal Care Services. It remains unclear what breed the dog is. It comes after a pit bull mauled a baby to death in front of the child's mother inside an Ohio home. Blakely Bosser, 1, was killed inside the home in Dover on July 2 after the dog savaged her. Her mom Nicole had bent over to pick up some laundry with Blakely behind her when the family pet turned violent. In the split second Nicole had her back turned, the dog growled and jumped at Blakely, relentlessly biting the helpless child on her face and throat. Police and emergency officials rushed to gory scene. Blakely was pronounced dead soon after they arrived.

Days of Our Lives Recap: Sophia Lies to Tate About Giving Birth in Chicago
Days of Our Lives Recap: Sophia Lies to Tate About Giving Birth in Chicago originally appeared on Daytime Confidential. On today's Days of Our Lives recap: Stephanie's Pad: Stephanie is working away when Alex notices how stressed she is about her pitch to EJ. They chat, once again, about her erotic novel project and how worried she is she'll be discovered. Alex, once again, says he's done everything he can to ensure her anonymity. Alex wants to use a particular line about 'forbidden love' in a blurb for the book but she freaks out and says no and also wants it taken out of the manuscript (to whom is that line attributed?). He agrees before she exits. Alex calls Kate and says the author doesn't want to use the excerpt she chose. He hangs up and there's a knock on the door. He finds no one there but there is a package addressed to Stephanie. University Hospital – Kayla's Office: EJ arrives just as Kayla hangs up with Bo. They immediately snark back and forth. EJ wants an office at the hospital but Kayla thinks they are short on space. EJ says it's all good as he'll just take hers. Kayla suggests sprucing up a utility closet near the morgue. She says he may own the hospital, but she runs it. EJ says she used to run it. They argue about his newly implemented budget when she tells EJ to either give her autonomy to run the hospital or she's done. EJ avoids the ultimatum and asks to use Kayla's office for his upcoming meeting with Stephanie. University Hospital – Lobby: Javi is telling Sarah about Holly and Arianna Grace's kidnapping and rescue. Sarah recalls when Victoria was kidnapped and then asks about Little T. She thinks it's clear how much he and Leo love that little boy. Javi admits he is dreading the day they have to give him up. Sarah recalls bonding with a child (Rachel) who she had to give up. She gets a little teary eyed and Javi gets all kinds of apologetic. Sarah says it's not about him as she is simply missing her daughter. Sarah calls Xander and screams at him about keeping Victoria from her. She hangs up just as Kayla arrives to ask what's wrong and give her a supportive hug. Chicago: Sophia is freaking out about all the lies she's telling but Melinda says she'll be able to see it through. Just then, Tate calls again but she ignores it. Melinda says they should stick to the plan so Tate will never know the baby left at the fire station is theirs. She says it's time for them to head back to Salem to deal with Tate and her mother. Marlena and John's Penthouse: Tate runs in telling Brady Sophia is in labor. He talks a mile a minute about Holly and Arianna Grace which stuns Brady. He wants to go to Chicago, but Brady stops him and says he will drive his son. Tate says he keeps calling Sophia and has no clue where she is in the city. Just then, Sophia calls and says she's on her way home as she already had the baby. She lies saying they had a daughter. They hang up and he tells Brady about his daughter. He wonders why Sophia didn't wait for him to meet with the couple in Chicago. Brady defends her saying she wanted to get on with his life much like Tate should. Tate thinks he will always wonder about his daughter and hoping she's having a good life. He gets all teary-eyed when he thinks about having a child who he will never know. Brady promises to support his son every step of the way and they embrace. Hernandez House: Leo holds the baby whilst talking to Chad about being a juror for Johnny's trial. They quickly hang up and he wonders aloud if Johnny is guilty. Javi arrives home and updates Leo on Arianna Grace and Holly. Leo asks about young Douglas and Javi asks if he had any idea the loan sharks would go after Arianna and Holly. Leo says he had no idea young Douglas and Arianna Grace even knew each other. Javi believes him but doesn't understand why he would help a perfect stranger. Leo says he sees himself in Doug and wanted to support him the way John and Marlena did him. He says Javi has changed him for the better and is an open book with him the same way Javi is with him (or is he…). Leo has to leave and gives Javi all kinds of directions about watching Little T. University Hospital – Kayla's Office: Stephanie arrives and is surprised to find EJ in her mother's chair. Stephanie says she is on board to take on the hospital as a client but won't do so unless he accepts all of her terms. She says she won't do anything to undermine her mother and EJ agrees. Next, Stephanie insists there will be no lying, cheating nor stealing on behalf of him or the hospital and EJ agrees. He asks if they have a deal and Stephanie agrees. Just then, Kayla walks in and wonders what the hell is going on. She's furious Stephanie didn't take her advice and accepted the job with EJ. With that, Stephanie exits. Kayla orders EJ not to corrupt her daughter. EJ says he hired her because of her skill as a publicist. Kayla wants to belabor the point but EJ makes his exit. Horton Square: Leo and EJ run into one another. Days of Our Lives Recap: Holly and Arianna Are Rescued Endings Leo reminds EJ they shouldn't be talking. EJ knows he is greedy, but Leo says he isn't like that any longer. He says he's not for sale and makes a quick exit. Stephanie arrives home and says she is officially working for EJ. She spots the package, and Alex says it arrived while she was out with no return address. Kayla tells Sarah about EJ hiring Stephanie to do PR for the hospital. They shift to talking about Xander and Kayla mentions he might benefit from therapy. She goes on to say Marlena offers intensive anger management counseling. Leo arrives home and tells Javi about his run-in with EJ. Sophia arrives to see Tate. He asks about the baby and Sophia says she's gone. Keep checking back for the latest Days of Our Lives recap!
