UH Hilo coaching staff holds free keiki basketball clinic

KAPA'A, Hawai'i (KHON2) — Is your keiki interested in or taking an interest in basketball? You might want to check out these free clinics to help them with their skills. Coaches from the University of Hawaii at Hilo's men's basketball team are gearing up to teach keiki statewide the fundamental skills and drills of basketball. HHSAA Girls Water Polo: Punahou wins State Title The Vulcans will start their five-day journey on May 17 on the Big Island before heading to Maui, Molokai, Lanai, Oahu and Kauai. The best part: it's free of charge! We are excited to touch down and connect with the youth basketball community across the state next week. Basketball has been a tool for positive living here in the islands for several generations and it is our turn to pay it forward and do what we can to help grow the game. As it turns to summer, we think the timing is right to help them kick off summer with words of encouragement and habits to incorporate in their daily lives. MAUNA KEA, Hawaii (KHON2) — Are you planning a trip to visit Maunakea during sunset hours? If so, University of Hawaii at Hilo officials advise you plan ahead to avoid all the said traffic on Maunakea Access Road, the Maunakea Visitor Center and the summit area has seen an increase in traffic, particularly during sunset hours on weekends and holidays. And it's not just during sunset. Larger crowds and heavier traffic should also be expected when Mauna Kea sees snow. Lava spews more than 400 feet high in Kilauea's 11th episode Visitors and residents planning their Mauna Kea trip are urged to carpool whenever possible and allow extra travel time to secure legal parking. Officials remind the public that parking is only allowed in designated areas at the summit and the Visitor Center. Maunakea Rangers will be on site to help direct traffic flow, ensure safety, assist guests and protect natural and cultural resources. All visitors are encouraged to plan for the rapidly changing weather patterns such as freezing temperatures, strong winds and snow and icy roads.
