Over $6K in stolen Walmart items recovered after Indian Trail chase ends in crash
UNION COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — What started as a shoplifting incident at an Indian Trail Walmart turned into a high-speed chase and crash, the sheriff's office announced.
Union County deputies were called to the scene after Walmart employees reported a theft.
Deputies began searching the area and found Marco Vongmalaythong, 42, sitting in his SUV behind the Walmart. When deputies tried to stop him, they said Vongmalaythong took off.
The chase didn't last long. Deputies said Vongmalaythong tried to take a sharp left onto Indian Trail Fairview Road. But at those speeds, the turn was too much.

Deputies said he clipped a curb, lost control, and rolled his SUV onto its side. With his vehicle flipped, Marco became stuck.
Deputies were able to pull him from the vehicle and place him under arrest.
Inside the SUV, deputies found more than $6,000 worth of stolen items from Walmart. Marco's vehicle was seized under North Carolina's 'Run and Done' law, which allows law enforcement to take the vehicles of suspects who flee from police.
