Prince Harry Described Kate Middleton in 3 Words When He First Met Her

Prince Harry and Kate Middleton used to be extraordinarily close, with the Duke of Sussex describing the Princess of Wales as 'the big sister he never had.' In Spare—Harry's 2023 memoir—he describes the three words that first came to mind when he met Kate in the early 2000s. Harry and Kate's once close relationship has cooled amid the ongoing rift between Harry and his older brother, Prince the past, Prince Harry referred to sister-in-law Kate Middleton as 'the big sister he never had,' and the two were extraordinarily close. 'There was no filling the hole left by [Princess] Diana's death, and Harry seemed to be growing up without someone emotionally available he could lean on,' Newsweek reported of the late Princess of Wales' death in a Paris car accident on August 31, 1997, when Harry was just 12 years old. 'Kate has helped fill some of that gap.' Now, though, as the relationship between Harry and his older brother Prince William has cooled to the point of a nonexistent relationship between brothers, his relationship with Kate has become strained, as well. But let's think back, shall we, to a different time—when Harry first met Kate, when both William and Kate were college sweethearts at the University of St. Andrews. Upon meeting the woman who would one day marry his brother, Harry described her in three words: carefree, sweet, and kind. That's how the Duke of Sussex put it in his 2023 memoir Spare, recalling that he 'liked his new girlfriend' when he met her. Harry noted in the book that she'd done a gap year in Florence, Italy, 'and had an interest in photography, art, and clothes,' according to Hello!. To the clothes end, Kate helped William and Harry pick out outfits for a 'fancy-dress birthday party' with a 'cringy' theme: 'Natives and Colonials.' 'Harry, who admitted to disliking both fancy-dress parties and themes, was particularly unenthusiastic about this one,' according to Hello!. 'However, William's new girlfriend, Kate, offered to help them find outfits.' Harry also wrote about how he enjoyed making Kate laugh and how he connected with her 'heavily disguised silly side.' When speaking about William and Kate's wedding on April 29, 2011, Harry wrote about how much he loved Kate and how he found in her the sister he'd never had and always wanted. 'He added that he was pleased that she'd forever be by William's side and how she was a good match for his older brother,' Hello! reported. Royal biographer Christopher Andersen said of the two that 'Harry was always close to Kate, and he always said she was the sister he never had.' 'They always had this banter,' he added, per The Daily Express. 'They had similar senses of humor.' It's unclear the last time that the formerly close Harry and Kate have spoken, but Harry said recently in a BBC interview earlier this month that 'There have been so many disagreements, differences between me and some of my family.' Of Spare, he continued, 'Of course, some members of my family will never forgive me for writing a book. Of course, they will never forgive me for lots of things. But I would love reconciliation with my family.' Read the original article on InStyle

British toddler becomes youngest-ever member of the Mensa high-IQ club

A two-year-old British boy has become the youngest ever member of Mensa, the exclusive club that only welcomes people with an IQ of 132 or above, according to Guinness World Records. Joseph Harris-Birtill, born on November 23, 2021, was admitted to the organization at the age of just two years and 182 days. "It soon became clear that he was an exceptional little being," Harris-Birtill's mother Rose told Guinness World Records. "He first rolled over at five weeks, said his first word at seven months, and read his first book out loud from cover to cover at one-and-three-quarter years." "He's learning morse code, knows the Greek alphabet, and has recently gotten interested in the periodic table," his mother said. "His interests are vast and varied, and he is always keen to learn more and loves a challenge." Harris-Birtill's parents — who both work at Scotland's prestigious University of St. Andrews — told Guinness World Records they first decided to reach out to Mensa to find more support for Joseph after seeing how early he'd started reading. "I searched online for any further support available, and saw that Mensa offers resources and membership for highly able children," Rose said. "We hope that this accomplishment can give him a sense of pride when he is older – it's a very unusual accolade and the credit is all his!" Harris-Birtill is 13 days younger than the youngest female member of Mensa was, American Isla McNabb, when she was admitted to the club in 2022. He also has, by default, taken the title of Britain's youngest Mensa member, topping Teddy Hobbs who achieved that rank at the age of four in 2023. Rose, Harris-Birtill's mother, said she hoped sharing her son's story would help raise awareness about the unique needs of children like her son. "It is a common misconception that everything is super easy for gifted children. But everyone needs appropriate stimulation and understanding throughout their lives, and highly able learners can sadly have their unique talents dimmed by the pressure to fit into environments that simply haven't been properly designed for them," she told Guinness World Records. "Joseph is fortunate enough to attend a brilliant nursery and has an excellent music teacher, and in Mensa we hope to provide him with a community of peers as a source of further support as his formidable intellect continues to grow and develop." Inside home of pet loving Wales family from sad loss to adorable new arrivals

While the Royal family are well known for their love of pets, Princess Kate, Prince William, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis are smitten with a few new furry additions to the home When you think of the late Queen Elizabeth II, images of cute Corgis may also spring to mind, so it's perhaps little surprise that the Prince and Princess in line to the throne are also dog lovers. And they are now said to be celebrating the tiny pitter-patter of feet as their beloved black cocker spaniel Orla has reportedly welcomed a litter of puppies. ‌ The Royal children, Prince George, aged 11, Princess Charlotte, nine, and Prince Louis, six, are said to be utterly smitten with the new pooches, but will there be room in their quaint four-bedroom cottage for the new arrivals? ‌ There's definitely plenty of space for walkies in the 655-acre grounds surrounding Adelaide Cottage in the Home Counties, where the Prince and Princess of Wales live - although there's no news on whether they plan to keep the four new pups. It's only a 10-minute stroll from Windsor Castle, where King Charles and Queen Camilla live with their Jack Russell Terrier, Bluebell. They had another Jack Russell, Beth, who sadly died in 2024. According to the Express, the mother and babies are doing well. 'We always thought the patter of tiny feet in the Wales's household had ended, so the sound of tiny paws will have to do,' a source said. Everyone loves new royal baby news, and so new royal puppies run very close. Everyone is very excited, not least the three children, who adore Orla and Lupo before." The adorable pooch is a pup from the litter of a dog belonging to Kate's brother James Middleton, who is known to be an avid dog lover himself. In a touching gesture last month, William and Kate posted a picture of Orla in honour of National Pet Day. The Royal couple dedicated their social media message to the occasion with the following heartfelt words: "Celebrating the animals who bring so much joy, companionship and love to our lives this #NationalPetDay." ‌ Meanwhile, the public has a lot of love for the Prince and Princess of Wales, which was clear in a video recently shared on Instagram. As the Prince and Princess of Wales were greeted by a crowd during their latest public outing, someone shouted at Kate, "You're beautiful," adding, "You too, William!" The couple giggled in response, with William jokingly responding: "You don't have to say that. Don't worry.' They were on a visit to Scotland for a ship-naming ceremony for HMS Glasgow. Scotland has a special meaning to the couple, who met as first-year college students at the University of St. Andrews in 2001. They befriended each other and became roommates before dating and falling in love.

The couple arrived in Scotland to take part in a naming ceremony for the HMS Glasgow. In a video shared to Instagram, the Prince and Princess of Wales were greeted by a crowd during their latest public outing. "You're beautiful," someone shouted at Kate, adding, "You too, William!" The couple giggled in response, with William responding: "You don't have to say that. Don't worry," he quipped. Kate, the Royal Navy ship's sponsor, christened the boat with a bottle of whiskey. "I have the pleasure to name this ship: HMS Glasgow," she said in a brief speech. "May God bless her and all who sail on her." Scotland has a special meaning to the couple, who met as first-year college students at the University of St. Andrews in 2001. They befriended each other and became roommates before entering a romantic relationship. The Prince and Princess of Wales—who are known as the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay while in Scotland—were just on the Isles of Mull and Iona on April 29 and April 30, which also coincided with their 14th wedding anniversary. For the occasion of the ship-naming, Kate embraced nautical flairs in a navy and white Suzannah London coatdress and matching hat. Earlier this week, the Prince and Princess of Wales were named as TIME100 Philanthropy honorees for 2025. Both were recognized for 'modernizing royal philanthropy," according to a piece written by TIME reporter Harry Booth. William and Kate, he said, have positioned themselves as 'less concerned with cultural preservation and more attuned to social issues, tackling homelessness and rural mental health through their Royal Foundation and spotlighting innovative solutions to climate change through the Earthshot Prize.'
