Bengaluru Man, 70, Out For Walk, Mauled To Death By Stray Dogs Outside Home
A 70-year-old man, Seethappa, died after being allegedly mauled by a pack of stray dogs just outside his house in Kodigehalli, Karnataka, during the early hours of Sunday. According to his family members, the elderly man had stepped out for a walk around midnight as he was unable to sleep, when a group of at least eight strays allegedly attacked him. Seethappa suffered serious injuries to his hands, legs, and face, with portions of flesh torn off in the attack. His family members, who rushed out upon hearing the commotion, claim they witnessed the pack of dogs attacking him. He was declared dead at the hospital. The Kodigehalli Police have registered a case and launched an investigation. An Unnatural Death Report (UDR) has been filed in the matter. Cops are examining CCTV footage and speaking to residents to establish the sequence of events. This incident is the latest in a disturbing rise in stray dog attacks across the country. A couple of weeks ago, a three-year-old girl was viciously attacked in Shimla Nagar of Old Hubballi in Karnataka. The child, who was walking towards a shop, was attacked by a group of stray dogs in the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation area. CCTV footage of the attack showed the dogs biting her shoulder, back, legs, and arms, dragging her to the ground. She was rushed to KIMS Hospital with serious injuries. The Bruhat Bengaluru Municipal Parishad (BBMP) recently launched a project worth Rs 2.9 crore to feed 4,000-5,000 stray dogs daily across Bengaluru. Through the scheme, BBMP planned to provide cooked meals of chicken, rice, and other meals to stray dogs. The aim was to reduce dog aggression, among other things. The move sparked public debate, with many questioning the move to feed stray dogs. Congress MP Karti Chidambaram has expressed concern over increasing dog bite incidents across the country and said it's a "health and safety issue". The Congress MP told NDTV that the Centre's data, shared in the Parliament, showed that over 37 lakh dog bite cases were reported last year, but "does not give a full picture because of the reporting mechanism." The Congress MP has raised the issue of stray dogs, their rehabilitation, and incidents of dog bites in the past. Mr Chidambaram said he even met Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address the concern.

22-year-old student ends life after alleged ragging in Bengaluru
BENGALURU: A 22-year-old architecture student ended his life allegedly due to ragging. The student had recorded a video before taking the extreme step. The incident took place on July 11 in Nandaramayyana Palya, which comes under the Madanayakanahalli police station limits in Nelamangala on the outskirts of the city. The police said that they have registered an Unnatural Death Report (UDR), and the victim's parents are expected to file a formal complaint on Tuesday. 'We will file an FIR once they file a complaint,' a police officer said. The deceased Arun (22), who was a final-year architecture student at a private engineering college, was a native of Hassan. Arun's parents work as daily-wage labourers. Despite their poor financial background, Arun was a bright student and had secured a free seat in the institution. He was also a portrait artist. According to police, Arun died by suicide after his parents had left for work. He recorded a video expressing distress over being ragged by friends. In the video, he mentioned that people were speaking ill of him behind his back. He shared the video in his college group. After the video went viral, college authorities alerted Arun's parents, who rushed home and found him hanging, the police said. Police sub-inspector dies by suicide in Karnatakas Bantwal
Mangaluru (Karnataka) Jul 20 (PTI) A 55-year-old police sub-inspector serving in Bantwal died by suicide on Sunday, reportedly due to personal and financial stress, officials said. The deceased, identified as PSI Kheerappa, who hailed from Karwar in Uttara Kannada district had been posted to the Bantwal Rural Police Station four months ago. Officials said he had spoke to his family members about his distress before taking the extreme step by hanging himself at his rented residence in Bantwal. He had returned from night patrol duty on July 19. When he failed to respond to calls from the police station the following day, his colleagues visited his residence and discovered his body. Three including a juvenile arrested for killing a man
The Amruthalli police have arrested three youths, including a juvenile, for bludgeoning a 35-year-old man to death over a trivial row on Monday. The police had initially filed an Unnatural Death Report (UDR) after discovering the body of Anjinappa at an isolated place in Manyata Tech Park in Akashavani Nagar, suspecting that Anjinappa, an alcoholic might have fallen down in inebriated state and died. However the autopsy report revealed the cause of death as a fatal blow on the head indicating that he was killed. Following this, the police launched a murder probe and zeroed in on Premkumar, 18, and his associates Darshan Nanjunda, 20, and a juvenile. Inquiry revealed that Anjinappa was mentally disturbed and became an alcoholic after his wife deserted him. He used to beg and do odd jobs to eke out a living. While he was shepherding in Akashavani Layout, three months ago, he had assaulted Premkumar for trying to steal the sheep. Enraged Premkumar wanted to avenge, and on Monday night the accused who were returning home after consuming alcohol, confronted Anjinappa, assaulted him with a club and coconut husk found near-by, due to which he died. The accused have been booked under murder and taken into custody for further investigations.

Elderly couple dies by suicide in Bengaluru old age home month after moving in
An elderly couple died by suicide at an old-age home in Bengaluru's JP Nagar a month after their son moved them to the couple's son, Vijay, admitted his parents, Krishnamurthy, aged 81, and Radha, aged 74, to the old age home on May 15, reportedly after repeated domestic arguments. The disputes stemmed from disagreements over the daughter-in-law's cooking, which the elderly parents were unhappy was not the first time Vijay had sent his parents to an old age home. In 2021, he had admitted them to another home in Byatarayanapura following similar issues, only to bring them back in 2023. However, tensions at home continued, leading to their recent admission to the JP Nagar facility with a monthly fee of Rs 7,500. Shobha, the supervisor of the old age home, recounted that the couple had seemed fine when they were admitted. 'On Monday evening, they were watching TV together. Radha wanted to watch her favourite serial, while Krishnamurthy preferred devotional songs. They argued over this and then went into their room,' she to the staff, the incident came to light when the couple failed to open their door on Tuesday morning. When the staff broke in, both were found hanging inside their room.
