The phone that stole the spotlight during this year's summer Unpacked was the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Samsung's ultra-thin book-style foldable. Along with its slim profile (it's 8.9mm thick when closed and 4.2mm thick when open), it also boasts a 6.5-inch cover screen that makes it feel surprisingly normal when closed, rather than chunky and awkward. It also packs an impressive 200-megapixel main camera. The Z Fold 7 starts at $2,000 and comes with 256GB, 512GB and 1TB storage options. It's available in jet black, blue shadow and silver shadow, and there's an exclusive mint color on There's also the clamshell Galaxy Z Flip 7, which scales back the bezels on the cover to serve up a 4.1-inch outer display with a 120Hz rate, similar to the 6.9-inch inner screen. The phone also packs a larger 4,300-mAh battery. The Z Flip 7 starts at $1,100 and comes with 256GB and 512GB storage options. It's available in jet black, blue shadow and coral red, as well as the exclusive mint color. And lastly, the Z Flip 7 FE (which stands for "Fan Edition") is Samsung's more affordable foldable offering, though it still starts at a rather hefty $900. It looks similar to last year's Galaxy Z Flip 6, though it swaps out the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip for an Exynos 2400 processor to keep the price down. The Z Flip 7 FE comes with 128GB and 256GB storage options, and is available in black and white. With the Samsung Galaxy Watch8 On the Way, Amazon's Practically Giving Away the Galaxy Watch7

When a red-hot new tech device debuts, like the Galaxy Watch8 that was just introduced last week at Samsung's Unpacked event, you have a choice to make: Do you really need to do the full upgrade to the absolute latest and greatest, or do you opt to score the inevitable deal on the previous model that was the latest and greatest until just a couple of days ago? Smartwatch fans, that time has come, because Amazon is obviously very keen on clearing out their inventory of the Galaxy Watch7 to make way for the Watch8, and they've just slashed the price on the Watch7 by 39% to just $200 for the 44mm Bluetooth model. The Galaxy Watch8 is probably going to be phenomenal, to be sure, but the Galaxy Watch7 was worth its full price before the Unpacked event, and it's the same smartwatch that's now a massive steal at a greatly reduced price. See at Amazon The Galaxy Watch7 is most definitely aimed at active types who enjoy a good workout. It's also the first smartwatch to feature Samsung's powerful Galaxy AI, which takes on the roles of stat compiler, health analyzer, and fitness coach. Galaxy AI tracks your workouts and compares them to previous efforts to show how well you're progressing toward your goal, whether that goal is overall fitness, weight loss, or a personal-best time. As a heart-rate tracker and sleep analyzer, the Galaxy Watch7's AI digs deeper than any previous Samsung smartwatch, giving you detailed analysis and even identifying signs of possible sleep apnea. Galaxy AI also uses your sleep and performance metrics to give you an overall energy level score to help you determine whether it's a good day for a workout or to take a rest day to recover. The Galaxy Watch7 debuted almost exactly one year ago, and reviewers and users alike raved about its overall performance, robust battery life, rugged construction, and flawless integration with the rest of Samsung's Galaxy family of smartphones, tablets, and wearables. Workout mavens, techies, and anyone just looking for a durable, reliable smartwatch were all pointed toward the Galaxy Watch7. What's changed about the Galaxy Watch7 in the year since then? Nothing except the price tag, now 39% lower at Amazon, so you get the same top-rated AI-powered smartwatch for $130 less. There are already great pre-order deals on the Galaxy Watch8, but the smart money says the Galaxy Watch7 is an unbeatable deal at just $200. See at Amazon

I Finally Held a Foldable That Doesn't Feel Like Two Stacked Phones: the Galaxy Z Fold 7

If I closed my eyes and you put the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 in my hands, I would think you'd handed me one of dozens of ordinary phones that share a similar shape and weight. But when I'd open my eyes, and then unfold the two panels of this new phone, well, that's a whole different story. I got to check out the Z Fold 7 with eyes wide open during Samsung's Unpacked event in New York last week, along with the Z Flip 7 and Z Flip 7 FE. I've used many foldable phones, but the feel of these struck me as being the future of the category. Now Playing: Ultra Thin: First Look at the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 02:45 At 8.9mm thick when folded and weighing 215 grams, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 doesn't feel much different than a standard slate phone. The 6.5-inch cover display makes it something I can see myself willingly using to scroll through social media, text and watch videos. But when opened, Samsung's book-style foldable is anything but ordinary. At just 4.2mm thick, it boasts a wildly slim profile that steals the spotlight from even the 5.8mm-thick Galaxy S25 Edge. The 8-inch inner display is 11% larger than the one on last year's Z Fold 6, which should help with multitasking. And a Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 cover and Victus 2 back make it feel nice and sturdy. The Z Fold 7 feels exactly like what foldable phones have strived to be all along: thin, lightweight and spacious -- and also as "normal" as possible, at least where it matters. It also features an impressive 200-megapixel main camera, just like the not-so-thin S25 Ultra. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 weighs 215 grams, and has a more spacious display. Joseph Maldonado/CNET/PCMag In an exclusive interview, Drew Blackard, Samsung's senior vice president of mobile product management, told CNET that by slimming down the Fold and leveling up the cameras, the book-style phone "is now a mainstream form factor." After holding the phone, I can understand what he means. The Z Fold 7 does away with the thicker build and scaled-back cameras that previously characterized foldables, and introduces something that feels equal parts sleek and familiar. Samsung is by no means the first company to launch a thin foldable; Oppo's Find N5, Huawei's Mate X6 and Honor's Magic V3 also boast impressively slim designs, to name a few. But with the release of both the Galaxy S25 Edge and now the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Samsung is doubling down on the skinny phone craze. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 boasts the same 200-megapixel wide camera as the S25 Ultra. Joseph Maldonado/CNET/PCMag An Ultra experience on an ultra-thin phone By bringing its 200-megapixel wide camera to the Z Fold 7 and S25 Edge, Samsung is proving you don't have to compromise camera quality for a slimmer build. It's a notable example of a foldable breaking away from the hardware limitations that have traditionally scaled back the cameras. It'll be interesting to see how competitors strive to match or outdo that feat. The Z Fold 7 also has a 12-megapixel ultrawide and 10-megapixel telephoto camera, as well as 10-megapixel selfie cameras on the inner and cover screens. I look forward to testing the phone's cameras out in the real world. Like the S25 series, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 packs a Snapdragon 8 Elite chip. It comes out of the box with One UI 8 and Android 16. What I'm perhaps most relieved about is that the Z Fold 7's battery maintains last year's 4,400-mAh capacity, despite the new phone's slimmer build. The biggest downside of the S25 Edge is its 3,900-mAh battery, giving it the lowest capacity across the S25 series. I was fully prepared for the Z Fold 7 to take a similar hit, but its expanded real estate helped save it from that pitfall. Battery life is one of the biggest considerations when people buy a new phone, according to a CNET survey, so it's good Samsung didn't scale that back. We'll see how it actually holds up in my day-to-day use and if it's a match for my endless TikTok scrolling and photo taking. Joseph Maldonado/CNET/PCMag Not-so-slim price The Galaxy Z Fold 7's cutting-edge specs don't come cheap. The phone starts at $2,000, which is $100 more than last year's Z Fold 6. You're certainly paying a premium for both that slimmer build (the S25 Edge starts at $1,100) and the Ultra-grade camera (the S25 Ultra starts at $1,300). The Z Fold 7 is available in jet black, blue shadow and silver shadow, as well as an exclusive mint color when you order on Preorders are open now, and the phones arrive July 25.

Samsung just revealed new Galaxy gear. Watch the official unboxing videos here

Samsung unveiled lots of exciting stuff at its Galaxy Unpacked event on Wednesday, July 9. The tech giant updated the Galaxy Z Fold smartphone, and at just 4.2mm unfolded and 8.9mm closed, the new handset is the thinnest Z Fold yet. The display size has also been increased, with the outer display now 6.5-inches (up from 6.3 inches) and the inside display 8 inches (up from 7.6 inches). Recommended Videos Samsung's unboxing video for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is as slick as you'd expect it to be, showing off the new phone in all its shiny glory. And just look at that slim profile! (Try, ahem, to avert your gaze from the rather prominent camera bump). The more affordable Galaxy Z Flip 7 is here, too (as well as the new Flip 7 FE, which is more compact, slightly less powerful, and has an even lower price tag), and also comes with bigger displays over the previous version. But it has fewer color options now, leaving you to choose from Blue Shadow, Jet Black, and a new Coralred. Mint is also available, but only via Samsung's website. Take a closer look at the color options in the Z Flip 7's unboxing video: Samsung also introduced the Galaxy Watch 8 and Galaxy Watch 8 Classic at its Unpacked event on Wednesday. At 8.6mm, the Watch 8 is the slimmest Galaxy Watch to date, while the Classic edition brings back the iconic rotating bezel. Also notable is the new 'cushion' design for both watches, featuring a square base and rounded edges for greater comfort. It debuted with the Galaxy Watch Ultra last year. The Watch 8 comes in stylish graphite and silver finishes, while the Classic edition offers black and white options. Samsung's unboxing video shows off both the Watch 8 and Watch 8 Classic:

Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 Laps Google and Apple on Health Features. But How Will They Work?

If you're someone who likes to monitor their health through a smartwatch, today's Samsung Unpacked Galaxy event was great for you. I've always been somewhat skeptical of the idea you absolutely need a smartwatch, Oura ring or another wearable device to monitor and maintain your health. But at today's Samsung Unpacked Galaxy event, it's clear that Samsung's technology powering these devices is improving, to the point where I'm convinced it was the best part of the event. Samsung unveiled the next generation of its Galaxy Watch 8 series at today's Unpacked event, alongside new Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Flip 7 FE (fan edition) and Galaxy Z Fold 7. But a good chunk of event time was dedicated to the next generation of Samsung's wearables, including the Galaxy Watch 8, big brother Galaxy Watch 8 Classic and premium Galaxy Watch Ultra. The watches have some important updates, including what Samsung is calling its "thinnest design yet," a 50% brighter display and longer battery life. They're also the first Samsung smartwatches to come pre-loaded with Google Gemini. But it's the health and wellness features that really caught my eye. Read More: Prime Day Deal: Samsung's Galaxy Watch Ultra Just Hit an Incredibly Low Price of Just $300, But Not for Long Some of the new health features include bedtime guidance, which uses your past three day's sleep patterns to nudge you to turn in at the time of night that will give you optimal sleep and recovery time. Runners will have access to a new running coach that can build you personalized training plans, no matter if you're a beginner or training for a marathon. Running was a big part of Samsung's event presentation, complete with an appearance and endorsement from Ugandan long-distance runner Jacob Kiplimo, who holds the world record for the half marathon. There were also some health features announced that seem cool, but left me with questions about how they actually work. A new vascular load feature is meant to measure the "stress levels on your vascular system" while you sleep. This is meant to help indicate problems if it flags high levels during typical rest periods, but it's unclear how the sensor can measure vascular or cellular stress. Then there's the antioxidant index that rounds out the new health features. Samsung says this feature can measure the antioxidant level through your skin when you press your thumb to the sensor on the back of the watch. It's more than a notification to eat more fruits and veggies; Samsung says it can measure levels of carotenoids, antioxidants found in green veggies, and chart improvements. How exactly it can measure that, I don't know. Samsung has been incorporating health tracking features into its smartwatches for a while, along with competitors like Apple and Google. But no big tech company seems to be doing wearable health like Samsung. The Galaxy Watch 7 was the first smartwatch to gain FDA approval for its sleep apnea detection feature. Samsung also introduced a Galaxy smart ring last year, a product noticeably absent from Google and Apple's line-up despite increasing consumer interest. "Galaxy Watch 8 is part of our broader mission to make digital health tools accessible to all, and deliver preventative and connected care services," said John Englehardt, product marketing at Samsung, during the event. Samsung also announced its acquisition of digital health company Xealth, which indicates the company plans to continue its health tech focus. Samsung's general approach to health- and- wellness-focused wearables is smart. Smartwatches might not be essential gadgets like a phone or laptop is, but good health is worthwhile. Health is wealth, as the saying goes. So I'm certainly disappointed Samsung didn't give the health features more face time during today's Unpacked event. If we're going to trust a tech company with sensitive information about our health and wellbeing, we deserve to have a better understanding of how those features work. For now, I'll wait and see how wearable experts like CNET's Vanessa Hand Orellana react and explore the new health features. As she said in her initial hands-on: "We'll find out if these features live up to the hype when put to the test in our full review, coming soon." But a note to Samsung from me for the future: Don't gloss over the details when it comes to our health.
