How you can enjoy free admission to the International African American Museum this weekend
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – A month dedicated to recognizing the accomplishments, talents, and contributions of Africans and African Americans to the United States will end on Feb. 28; but some Charleston residents and visitors will have the opportunity to commemorate Black History Month by viewing a special exhibit on one culturally significant museum – for free.
Bank of America, Merrill and Bank of America Private Bank cardholders can receive free general admission to the International African American Museum through the 'Museums on Us' program March 1 and 2.
The museum currently features an exhibition called: 'Unsettled Things: Art from an African American South,' which showcases the brilliance of often-overlooked Black artists from the south.
Additionally, cardholders can take advantage of the special free admission at the Gibbes Museum of Art over the same weekend.
There are two special displays happening at the Gibbes which include 'Beeple,' an exhibit that features three of the artists latest kinetic sculptures, and 'Statement Pieces: Contemporary Fashion Design and the Gibbes Collection' which juxtaposes dynamic works of fine art from the Gibbes permanent collection with contemporary fashion objects.
Bank of America said it 'believes the arts have a unique ability to connect people and communities and help local economies thrive.' That's why they are offering free access to cardholders through its Museums on Us initiative the first full weekend of every month.
'This is one example of how the bank strengthens the local communities it serves, creates greater cultural understanding, and expands accessibility to the arts,' said Bank of America in a news release.
Guests must present their Bank of America, Merrill, or Bank of American Private Bank credit or debit card, along with a photo ID, to receive free general admission into the museums.
