Upko Youth urges calm over flag controversy
Published on: Monday, August 18, 2025 Published on: Mon, Aug 18, 2025 Text Size: Felix said prolonging the matter would only raise tensions and potentially disrupt public order. TELUPID: Upko Youth has emphasised that the national flag should remain a symbol of unity and togetherness, rather than a source of division. Its Chief, Felix Joseph Saang, said current debates surrounding the flag could be resolved through better approaches without turning the matter into a street issue or open polemic. 'The relevant parties should be given space to carry out investigations. Let's not act hastily,' he said in a statement. 'If a mistake was made, there are proper ways to offer correction and guidance. If it was done intentionally, then existing laws are in place to take appropriate action.' Felix said prolonging the matter would only raise tensions and potentially disrupt public order. 'We want this issue to be resolved quickly and handed over to the authorities for investigation and closure. 'Our focus should be to ensure that the flag continues to be a symbol of unity among the people, not a cause for conflict,' he stressed. He added that as a youth leader, it is his duty to express concern over matters that could threaten public harmony. 'This is a sensitive issue. If not handled firmly and wisely, it could lead to further disputes and even spread elsewhere,' he said. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Upko Youth calls for flag issue to be resolved calmly
Published on: Saturday, August 16, 2025 Published on: Sat, Aug 16, 2025 Text Size: TELUPID: Upko Youth has emphasised that the national flag should remain a symbol of unity and togetherness, rather than a source of division. Its chief, Felix Joseph Saang ( pic ), said current debates surrounding the flag could be resolved through better approaches without turning the matter into a street issue or open polemic. He urged the public to allow the authorities space to conduct investigations, stressing that any errors could be corrected through guidance, while deliberate acts could be addressed under existing laws. Felix noted that prolonging the issue would only raise tensions and potentially disturb public order, adding that the matter should be handed over to the authorities for resolution. He said the youth wing carried the responsibility to voice concern over sensitive matters and to ensure the flag continues to be upheld as a unifying symbol for all citizens. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
