MESA COUNTY, Colo. (KREX) – An evacuation order was put in place Thursday morning between mile markers 124 to 128 on Highway 141 due to the fires near Gateway.
For those who had to leave their homes because of the fire, the evacuation center is at the Clifton Community Center, 3270 D 1/2 Road in Clifton. MCSO wanted to remind the public that this is not a housing shelter. Those who have been displaced will be assessed for needs and connected to resources.
Additionally, those who have large animals that need shelter can call 970-778-0161.
According to the Upper Colorado River Interagency Fire Management Unit, the Turner Gulch Fire was last mapped at 1,020 acres, while the Wright Draw Fire was at 228 acres.
Due to the fires, the Mesa County Sheriff's Office issued a pre-evacuation order for areas near mile markers 128 and 131 on Highway 141.
Over 200 firefighters are working on the fire, with more resources anticipated to arrive soon. Rocky Mountain Complex Incident Management Team 1 will oversee the blazes at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Upper Colorado River Interagency Fire Management Unit said.
