'Fake tans make me look orange but this cool toned one promises sunkissed skin'
Mirror's shopping writer Grace always struggles with fake tan looking too orange, so she tested out utan's brand new instant tan designed for those with cool undertones As a fair-skinned girl, achieving a natural tan can be a bit of a challenge. It demands a lot of hours of sunbathing, and with the UK's famous lack of sunshine, coupled with the possibility for skin damage, it's just not worth the hassle anymore. So I'm constantly on the hunt for a bronzing product that can mimic that natural sun-kissed glow. However, the majority of fake tans always ends up looking too orange on my cool-toned skin. When I saw that utan had launched its Instant Tan Cool, labelled by the brand as "the world's first instant tan designed to suit your undertone and enhance your perfume", I knew I had to test out and see if it actually worked on my skintone. Utan is known for developing innovative and first of it's kind formulas, not to mention it's loved by major celebrity A-listers like Sofia Richie and Sienna Miller. We have had gradual fake tans in the past that have been specifically designed for certain undertones, such as Bondi Sands' Technoolour Range, but finding an instant tan (reasonably priced at £18) that can do so is pretty great. Pros Evens out the skin tone Easy to apply Natural-looking Buildable Smells amazing Cons Doesn't give a really deep tan utan Instant Tan Cool review The first thing I noticed after using this tan was how easy and honestly foolproof the application is. The forumla comes out in a airbursh spray that blends so seamlessly into the skin. There's not hard work or intense rubbing required. Simply spray the formular directly on to your skin or mitt and softly blend it in for the perfect finish. It's probably the easiest-to-apply fake tan I've ever tried. Initially I was unsure if the colour was dark enough for my liking. I don't like anything too deep but the first spray showed up with very minimal colour. However, the great thing about this product is that it dries down fairly quickly so you can build it up to get a deeper colour. I will say that it does act more like body make-up, as described by the brand, so it's ideal for smoothing out uneven tones and adding some natural colour into the skin. But if you're looking for a deep, intense tan this is probably not the one for you. Personally, I know this is a product I will reach for all the time. I love anything instant as I'm often too forgetful to actually prep out my bodycare routine in advance. And this handy spray can easily slot into my handbag for emergency top ups on a night out. Additionally, it does not have that traditional fake tan smell at all. In fact, the scent is organic vanilla and tonka so not only does it give the skin a littel bronzey glow, it makes you smell amazing at the same time. The brand has also launched the same product but created for those with warm-tones, and actually recommends mixing both together if you're neutral to get your perfect, bespoke shade. If you've not been convinced by an instant tan, my favourite gradual tans are: Tan Luxe The Gradual Illuminating Self Tan Lotion, currently £22 and Isle of Paradise Self-Tanning Water Medium, £18.95.

Louise Thompson praises ‘elite' £12 fake tan that ‘doesn't stain bedsheets'
Louise Thompson raved about her favourite at-home spray tan that doesn't stain bed sheets, saying even her partner Ryan can't resist borrowing it to get a natural-looking glow Summer is the prime time to restart your fake tan routine as we get ready to bare some skin, giving an instant glow without risking damaging your skin by sitting in the sun. However we all know the pains of using self tanner, with everything from streaks and patchiness to ending up with stained bed sheets and clothes making it much more troublesome than we'd like it to be. However Louise Thompson has shared her go-to solution that creates a gorgeous glow without having to worry about it ruining your bedding. Louise raved about the Tanologist Self Tan Water, which is currently on sale at Amazon down from £14.99 to £12.52, claiming it was so good that even her partner Ryan Libbey can't resist stealing it. Louise shared a quick peek at the results of using the tan – which showed her legs looking extra bronzed and golden brown – and called it 'The most elite tan' in her Instagram stories. She also shared a couple of follow ups, where she revealed that Ryan was partial to pinching the tan from her dressing table and using it himself, as she showed off his very bronzed looking skin. The former Made in Chelsea star also added: 'I do dark. And to answer your other questions it's fragrance free, no rough smells, and it doesn't stain the bed as it's clear. It's my go-to face option and really good for topping up other tans.' Although Louise opted for the dark shade, you can also get it in light, medium and extra dark shades too, so you can find the one that best suits your skin tone (and how tanned you want to look). If you're worried about ending up with that telltale green or orange hue, picking a tan that suits your skin's natural colouring is the best way to avoid this. Utan's new undertone-matching self tan comes in both cool and warm undertones, so you can pick the one that best suits your skin tone. Bondi Sands also has its Technocolor range, which comes in tones like magenta, emerald and sapphire to suit all skin colours and undertones. However, unlike other formulas such as creams or mousses which can be difficult to blend evenly, Louise's favourite Tanologist Self Tan Water is applied in a mist, which you simply spray straight onto your skin then blend using a brush or mitt. Its clear formula can make it a little tricky to see where you've applied it, but it eliminates the risk of transferring tan stains onto your clothes or bedding, which can be tricky to wash out. The Tanologist Self Tan Water has also been dermatologist approved to be safe for all skin types including sensitive skin, and is free from irritating ingredients that can cause clogged pores and breakouts. In fact, it contains several other hydrating, skin-loving ingredients like pink grapefruit, goji berry and jumpier, which help soften and brighten your skin as you wear it. Amazon shoppers have praised it too, with one saying: 'This product applies so good, no streaks at all and dries really quick. Smells nice when applied but does have that fake tan smell after. Washes off nice to leave a really natural tanned colour. I don't have to worry about streaks, or patches because the application is smooth. Colour is great, I thought it would be darker but I am happy with the colour it gives.' Another agreed: 'Absolutely Awesome. Game Changer Self Tan Lotion. Love it!' Some were less thrilled, saying: 'I liked the colour it gave but found it difficult to put on evenly, even after buying the special spray. I shall continue to use on my face, using a cotton pad though. Shame really as I do like the effect it gives.' Others find it easy to apply, though, writing: 'The product gives you a natural looking tan, easy to apply, doesn't mark your clothes.'

Sofia Richie-approved brand launches self tan that adapts to your skin tone and enhances perfume
Utan just launched a brand new self tan that not only automatically adapts to your skin tone, but maximises your perfume and gives an airbrushed effect ready for summer With the summer approaching and even the promise of a mini heatwave heading our way, it's finally time to bare some skin and pull out your favourite summer clothes. If the winter has left you looking a little paler than you'd like, it might be time to pull out the fake tan to give yourself a little golden glow. Although self tanner is a staple in many of our beauty routines, finding the right shade can be difficult – no one wants to end up with that dread green or orange undertone. That's why we're thrilled that Utan – whose freckle pen has been a go-to for both Sofia Richie and Hailey Bieber – has launched its brand new undertone matching self tan. The Instant Tan Spray comes in two options, cool undertone and warm undertone, making sure you always get the most natural-looking finish for your skin. If you're not sure about your undertone, the simplest way is to check the colour of your veins (your wrist is usually the best place for this) – cool undertones will have blue-coloured veins, whilst warm undertones will have green coloured veins. If you find you have a mixture of both, you'll probably have a neutral undertone, which means you can combine the two for a bespoke shade that suits your skin. As well as pairing perfectly with your skin tone, the new Instant Tan Spray is streak free and dries instantly, with no transfer onto clothes or bedding. It's also sweat and water resistant, making it perfect for some pre-holiday prep or when you know you'll be out and about all day long. It also has the added bonus of smelling great. Whilst most self tans have that biscuity scent, the Instant Tan Spray has an organic vanilla and tonka fragrance which pairs perfectly with plenty of perfumes, helping to enhance and amplify your go-to perfume, rather than compete with it. The Instant Tan Spray blends super well, and gives a sheer coverage that's similar to body makeup, with an airbrush finish. You can also instantly wash it off with simple soap and water, so no more scrubbing your skin raw trying to get off any stubborn patches. To use it, you simply spray it directly onto a mitt or brush, then gently buff it into your skin in a circular motion. Leave it for 60 seconds to dry before getting dressed to prevent it wearing off onto your clothes. If you want some extra protection from transfer, a spritz of setting spray over the top works wonders. If you often find it tricky nailing the right colour for your skin, we're also a fan of Bondi Sands Technocolor 1 Hour Express Self Tanning Foam. The express tan – which works its magic in one hour – comes in shades like emerald, sapphire, magenta and caramel to suit everything from very fair to olive or very dark skin tones.
