International Yoga Day in Mangaluru features yoga in swimming pool
To commemorate International Yoga Day, a group of 40 swimmers did yogasanas in Mangaluru City Corporation's Mangala swimming pool on June 21 morning.
The group, led by veteran swimmer Latesh Poojary, did padmasana, shavasana and few other asanas in the deep side of the pool. The yoga demonstration was for about 15 minutes.
Following the demonstration, former dean of Fisheries College Shivaprakash sat in the pool and wrote a postcard greeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi on International Yoga Day.
At the same time, Member of Parliament Captain Brijesh Chowta and other elected representatives and district officials took part in a yoga demonstration organised by the district Ayush Department on account of International Yoga Day. The event was done under the guidance of yoga guru Gopalakrishna Delampady,
The yoga demonstration started with 'Tadasana'. Then participants did 'Vrukshasana', 'Utkatasana', 'Trikonasana' and 'Ardha Chakrasana', in standing position. Then participants sat on the mat and did 'Bhadda Koonasana', 'Shashankasana', 'Uthana Mandookasana', 'Ustrasana', 'Shalabhasana', 'Ardha Haalasana', 'Pavanamuktasana', 'Sethubhandasana', 'Makarasana', 'Bhujangasana', 'Vakrasana' and 'Vajrasana'.
Mangaluru City MLAs D. Vedavyas Kamath and Y. Bharath Shetty, MLC Manjunath Bhandary, Deputy Commissioner H.V. Darshan, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer K. Anandh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Traffic) K. Ravi Shankar and district AYUSH officer Mohammed Iqbal participated in the programme.
Captain Chowta took part in 'Yoga with Yodha' programme in which he did yoga alongside ex-servicemen, achievers, sportspersons and other notable persons of the district, on the scenic Someshwara beach. Last year, he took part in the same programme held at the pristine Sasihitlu beach. 'This is an effort to project our tourism potential,' Capt. Chowta said.
