Varanasi District Judge inaugurates plantation drive, stresses water conservation
Varanasi: On World Environment Day, District Judge and Chairman of the District Legal Services Authority Jai Prakash Tiwari inaugurated a plantation programme and flagged off an awareness rally on Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion, the District Judge highlighted this year's mission of Uttar Pradesh State Legal Services Authority, Lucknow, which focuses on 'Save Water, Save Environment, Save Earth' campaign, stressing the necessity of water conservation. He pointed out that drinkable water on Earth is limited, while ocean water, despite its abundance, cannot be used, as the existence of agriculture, animals, and all humanity depends on the storage capacity of freshwater.
He emphasised the need to conserve drinking water and make efforts to save water at home. For example, a significant amount of water is wasted during the filtration process of RO machines, but by storing the discharged water from the machine, it can be used for plants and cleaning, saving approximately 2 to 3 buckets of water per household daily. Additionally, the District Judge advocated for planting trees at home to maintain a green environment, which can help control the surrounding temperature and save electricity.
A plantation programme was organised at IIT-BHU. Dean of Faculty Affairs Prof NK Mukhopadhyay, Administrative In-charge Prof Ranjit Mohanty, and Registrar Rajan Srivastava led the event.
