Canadian influencer couple dies in off-roading crash in British Columbia

An influencer couple from Canada, known for their adventurous off-road travel videos, has died after a tragic accident in the British Columbia Interior.
According to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), Stacey Tourout and Matthew Yeomans, creators of the YouTube channel Toyota World Runners with over 200,000 subscribers, were killed on Thursday, August 7, 2025.
Kaslo Search and Rescue (SAR) confirmed to CBC that they were called to the crash site at around 7:30 p.m. local time.
Rescuers believe the pair lost control of their vehicle while navigating rough terrain in the mountains near Trout Lake, B.C. Just days before the accident, they had shared what would become their final YouTube video, titled "VANCOUVER ISLAND | The Off-Road Version," which showed them camping in remote Canadian wilderness and testing their Toyota trucks on challenging trails.
Mark Jennings-Bates, a manager with Kaslo SAR, told CBC: "So it was on a forestry road, somewhere in the mountains, and quite a long ways north in the valley up towards ... the village of Trout Lake [in the West Kootenay region of southeastern B.C.]. Our teams were able to get to them efficiently. It's a long journey, but they got there efficiently. So that was very, very helpful. And of course that means that the helicopter pilot could also fly straight to the destination with confidence that he was going to find them.

Jennings-Bates said one of the victims had no vital signs when crews arrived, while the other was airlifted to the hospital but later died. The cause of the crash is not confirmed, though he suspected 'a loss of control on rough terrain' as a possible factor.
Tributes from family and fans
Tourout's mother, Colleen, posted a heartfelt message on Facebook alongside a photograph of the couple in front of snow-covered mountains: "With unimaginable heartache, the families of Matthew Peter Yeomans and Stacey Tourout would like to advise that we lost them both tragically succumbing to injuries in an offroad accident on Aug 7, 2025 in the beautiful mountains of British Columbia that they loved so much.
Please keep us and them in your thoughts and prayers as we navigate this devastating end to an amazing Love Story.
They are together forever as we knew they would always be."
Per an old post dated April 12, 2023, Stacey Tourout and Matthew Yeomans met each other 'because of an old Toyota.' They said their agenda was to drive the Cruiser Chinook truck they built in 100 days 'around the world, starting with the entire western hemisphere: The Pan American Highway.'
According to Yeomans' Facebook profile, the couple got engaged in April 2024, sharing a video of the proposal with followers. Beyond YouTube, they also had a strong Instagram presence with nearly 74,000 followers.
A description on their Toyota World Runners YouTube channel reads: "Matthew and Stacey built the world's first Land Cruiser Chinook in 100 days. Now set off on their journey to drive the Pan American and beyond, this is their story about the adventure, the personal growth, and choosing to LIVE life and create a legacy community of people who are seekers of the unknown.

Their final Instagram post, shared six days before the tragedy, featured photos from Vancouver Island and was captioned: "Really just soaking up all of these Vancouver island summer juices. Our first summer in a few years where we get to experience the seasons change and the joy the sun brings us soggy rainforest dogs as we come out of hiding."
