Two major London Underground lines closed due to 'vandalism'

Passengers travelling on the London Underground this morning are in for headaches this morning with two major lines delayed. The Elizabeth Line has been experiencing severe delays since 6.50am. The disruption between Shenfield and Whitechapel is caused by Network Rail fixing equipment damaged by vandalism. Transport for London (TfL) says tickets will be accepted on the Tube 'by any reasonable route'. There is good service on the rest of the line. There is also minor disruption on the Piccadilly Line while engineers fix a track fault on Caledonian Road. However, monitoring website True Tube Status says there are 'severe delays', with journeys about 40% longer than usual. Got a story? Teen guilty of using zombie knife to attack stranger at Notting Hill Carnival

A teenager has been found guilty of attempted murder after stabbing a complete stranger at Notting Hill Carnival. Rumarni Tuitt attacked his victim shortly before 8pm on August 26 last year. The 19-year-old was seen verbally arguing with someone in the crowd before taking a huge zombie knife from his waistband and thrusting it towards the people in front of him. His victim, also aged 19, was stabbed at least five times by the 10-inch blade, causing life-threatening injuries. Tuitt had never met his victim before, and a motive for the attack has never been established. Police immediately intervened and arrested Tuitt at the scene, providing medical treatment to the victim until paramedics were able to reach him. Tuitt, of Sutherland Road, Walthamstow, stood trial at the Old Bailey and earlier today was found guilty of attempted murder and possession of a bladed article. Acting Detective Inspector Sophie McLoughlin from the Metropolitan Police said: 'This was a savage and senseless attack. The victim was very lucky to survive his injuries. 'Hundreds of thousands of people, including the victim in this case, go to Carnival to have a good time and enjoy the music and entertainment. 'Those who would choose to turn up armed with a 10-inch zombie knife clearly have no such intentions. More Trending 'It is thanks to the vigilance of officers on duty that day and the hard work of my team in the months since that we were able to build the case that saw Tuitt convicted at court. 'It is also thanks to officers' immediate medical intervention at the scene, as well as the specialist further care by paramedics, that we're talking about a conviction for attempted murder and not worse. 'I hope the victim can now move forward and begin to put this experience behind him.' Tuitt has been remanded in custody and will be sentenced at the Old Bailey on June 27. Major UK hospital forced to close all wards after outbreak of serious virus

All the wards in a major Scottish hospital have been shut due to cases of a contagious vomiting virus. Belford Hospital in Fort William closed all its wards after a number of Norovirus cases. The hospital's ward one and the combined assessment unit have stopped accepting new admissions. Norovirus, also called the winter vomiting bug, is a highly contagious stomach bug that causes vomiting and diarrhoea. NHS officials have also restricted patient visits in the hospital, only allowing the most essential visits to loved ones in the wards. If you have been infected with norovirus, you will experience: Feeling sick (nausea) Diarrhoea Being sick (vomiting) These last two may even occur at the same time, which gives norovirus its notoriety as an illness you don't want to get You may also have: High temperature Headaches Aching arms and legs An NHS Highland spokesperson said in a statement: 'We have had to close both wards in Belford Hospital to new admissions due to Norovirus.' More Trending 'Restricted visiting is also in place but please contact staff on the ward if you feel your visit is necessary and they will be able to advise.' In March this year levels of the winter bug were 'exceptionally high' in England. Around 900 hospital beds were filled each day by patients with norovirus symptoms in the middle of the month, although cases did start to fall towards the end of March. Thousands of passengers stranded after theft grounds trains to halt

Cable theft forced trains to stop in central Spain, upending the Monday commute for thousands of passengers. Thieves wreaked havoc on the high-speed line between Madrid and Seville after stealing vital cable from the signalling system across four locations. The theft happened late yesterday evening, affecting dozens of trains between Spain's capital and Andalucia during peak return travel after the Labour Day weekend. Thousands of passengers were eagerly waiting for updates after spending hours on the station floors and trying to get information from rail staff. Footage shows frustrated passengers gathering at Madrid's Atochat station today to try find out what was happening with their trains. Renfe, the train operator, told passengers to not arrive too early to avoid further crowds. One passenger posted on X that his train was scheduled to leave Sevilla shortly before 9pm yesterday. Instead, the train arrived to Madrid at 6.3am today. He claimed they spent '10 hours on a train that ran out of food and water after half an hour.' A typical train journey takes between the cities usually takes just under three hours. Alberto Valero, a tourist from Mexico, told the AP news agency him and his family had spent hours at Madrid station due to the issue. He said: 'We're here with tourists from everywhere — France, Portugal. 'Everyone is at a loss for what to do because of the total disarray. More Trending ADIF, the company owning Spain's railway infrastructure, said on X the theft happened at four points on the line in Toledo. It hoped services to resume from around 9.30am between Madrid, Seville, Malaga and Granada. Today's train chaos comes after life in Spain and Portugal was severely disrupted last week after massive power outages lasting for days. At least five people were killed in the unprecedented blackout, which turned Madrid dark as the Spanis grid lost 60% of its power, with national emergency declared.
