Teen guilty of using zombie knife to attack stranger at Notting Hill Carnival

Metro08-05-2025

A teenager has been found guilty of attempted murder after stabbing a complete stranger at Notting Hill Carnival.
Rumarni Tuitt attacked his victim shortly before 8pm on August 26 last year.
The 19-year-old was seen verbally arguing with someone in the crowd before taking a huge zombie knife from his waistband and thrusting it towards the people in front of him.
His victim, also aged 19, was stabbed at least five times by the 10-inch blade, causing life-threatening injuries.
Tuitt had never met his victim before, and a motive for the attack has never been established.
Police immediately intervened and arrested Tuitt at the scene, providing medical treatment to the victim until paramedics were able to reach him.
Tuitt, of Sutherland Road, Walthamstow, stood trial at the Old Bailey and earlier today was found guilty of attempted murder and possession of a bladed article.
Acting Detective Inspector Sophie McLoughlin from the Metropolitan Police said: 'This was a savage and senseless attack. The victim was very lucky to survive his injuries.
'Hundreds of thousands of people, including the victim in this case, go to Carnival to have a good time and enjoy the music and entertainment.
'Those who would choose to turn up armed with a 10-inch zombie knife clearly have no such intentions. More Trending
'It is thanks to the vigilance of officers on duty that day and the hard work of my team in the months since that we were able to build the case that saw Tuitt convicted at court.
'It is also thanks to officers' immediate medical intervention at the scene, as well as the specialist further care by paramedics, that we're talking about a conviction for attempted murder and not worse.
'I hope the victim can now move forward and begin to put this experience behind him.'
Tuitt has been remanded in custody and will be sentenced at the Old Bailey on June 27.

At Stockwell Tube station in south London, Metropolitan Police firearms officers were congratulating themselves on a job well done. They believed they'd just shot dead a failed al-Qaeda suicide bomber, Hussain Osman. His body lay slumped in a seat on a stationary Northern Line train at platform two, his denim jeans and jacket covered in blood. Fearing that he was carrying a device, the officers withdrew to the central hub of the Underground station and called in an explosives officer to check and make the scene safe.

Two people killed after car drives over huge cliff and crashes into the sea

Two people have died after a car drove over the edge of a cliff. The incident happened on Friday evening at Alum Bay on the Isle of Wight, not far from the famous Isle of Wight Needles. The car was being driven along Alum Bay New Road when it left the road, drove over the edge of the cliff and crashed into the sea below. Police, firefighters, paramedics and coastguards all attended the scene. It is understood a man was 'recovered' from the water, but earlier today Hampshire Police confirmed two people died in the crash. The victims have not yet been formally identified but their next of kin have been told. Dramatic pictures from the scene show the twisted remains of the silver vehicle protruding out from the sea as police examined the vehicle in boats. More Trending A police statement released on Friday said: 'We're currently at the scene of a serious incident in Totland. 'We were called at 7.21pm this evening after a car, which was being driven along Alum Bay New Road, left the road, came off the cliff top and came to rest in the water below.' A one-day yacht race which involved sailing past Alum Bay still went ahead as planned on Saturday. The annual Round the Island Race sees sailors race all the way around the Isle of Wight and regularly attracts more than 1,200 boats. Owner of 'pocket bully' which mauled boy, five, blames child for attack

A five-year-old boy who was left in hospital after being attacked by a 'pocket bully' has been told it was his fault. Four-year-old Antonio Quinn needed a three-hour operation to have his face stitched back together after the vicious attack left him covered in blood. But the dog's owner has now blamed the child for the incident, while insisting his 'teddy bear' pet, named Harry, was just defending his home. Antonio's mother Amanda Holmes, 34, said her son was lucky to be alive, but dog owner Aaron Eccles said the child shouldn't have come into his home and that the attack was a 'genuine mistake'. Mr Eccles said that dogs don't differentiate between an adult and child when responding to who they think is a burglar, adding that Harry had even given Antonio a 'warning bite'. Harry was later seized along with a Staffordshire bull terrier by 20 officers who arrived at the property in Oswaldthwistle, Lancashire. Mr Eccles accused police of antagonising his dog by using pepper spray on him, MailOnline reports. The dog owner said he declined an offer from officers to have his pets euthanised and was now awaiting the results of an assessment which will determine whether they are safe to be returned home. Antonio was reportedly playing outside with Mr Eccles' partner's son and was going in to get a drink when he was attacked by the dog. He was wounded on the chin, cheeks and thigh before a neighbour's intervention stopped the incident from further escalating. The child was then hurried to Royal Manchester Children's Hospital for treatment. Ms Holmes said the scene was 'like something out of a horror film', but that, despite enduring a lot of pain, Antonio was doing well. A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: 'We were called at shortly after 1.30pm on May 26 following reports that a child had been bitten by a dog on Thwaites Road, Oswaldtwistle. 'The child, a four-year-old boy, was taken to hospital with injuries to his leg and face. Thankfully, those injuries are not life threatening. 'Two dogs have been seized by police – a Staffordshire Bull Terrier type and a Pocket Bully Type and the dog owner has been identified and will be spoken to in due course. More Trending 'We know this may be concerning to hear about, but we want to reassure you that enquiries are ongoing into the incident, and we are asking for your help to assist those enquiries. 'We are particularly interested in viewing any CCTV footage of the area that may have captured the incident.' Anyone with footage or information should call 101 quoting log 0603 of May 26.
