Actor Jeff Daniels laments Kamala Harris' loss, suggests she would have governed like Abraham Lincoln
Print Close By Rachel del Guidice Published July 21, 2025 Actor Jeff Daniels lamented former Vice President Kamala Harris losing the 2024 presidential election in a new interview, saying she would have governed like President Abraham Lincoln. "I still think about Kamala, and how I think she would have been a good choice," Daniels told MSNBC's Nicolle Wallace in an episode published Monday of her podcast, "The Best People." "I don't care what they say, because she would have done what Lincoln did." "Liz Cheney would have been secretary of state," Daniels said. 'VIEW' CO-HOST WHO SUPPORTED HARRIS SAYS SHE MADE BIG MISTAKE REACHING OUT TO REPUBLICANS "Team of Rivals," Wallace interjected, referencing the book by Doris Kearns Goodwin, "Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln," which looks at how Lincoln included former political opponents in his cabinet. "Team of Rivals," Daniels agreed. "That's what Lincoln did, surrounded himself with the people who would disagree with him, not the people who would, you know, take a knee and go, 'Yeah, more tariffs, sir, more.'" Harris' campaign heavily used Liz Cheney, one of President Donald Trump's fiercest Republican critics, on the campaign trail in 2024. Once a conservative star in the House, Cheney was one of only two Republicans who served on the special committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, which resulted in her losing her seat in Wyoming. Harris also pledged to appoint a Republican to her Cabinet if elected. Daniels, known for his prominent movie, television and stage roles, said the Republican Party was deteriorating under Trump. BIDEN TELLS 'THE VIEW' HE WASN'T SURPRISED HARRIS LOST, BLAMES SEXISM AND RACISM "It's the madness of King George, and just the deterioration of the Republican Party," he said. "I mean, look, I'm just an actor. What do I know? But when Mitch [McConnell] started stacking the courts 25 years ago, I said it on your show once, they can see it coming. The new America that is diverse and treats everyone with equality and respect and dignity, you know, kind of like Jesus did. We're ready for that." He also said wealthy backers are "losing money" under Trump. "And Mitch and company could see it coming," he said. "They were going to be the minority, so they just started and then here we are, and now you got it, and now you're losing money. I hope you're losing tons of money, those of you who thought this would be OK." Daniels is playing President Ronald Reagan in the upcoming movie "Reykjavík," about the summit between Reagan and Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev in 1986. His recent roles include playing former FBI Director James Comey in Showtime's "The Comey Rule," and fictional newscaster Will McAvoy on HBO's "The Newsroom," in addition to his numerous film roles going back to the 1980s. Retired teacher loses over RM800,000 in bogus investment scheme
ALOR SETAR: A retired teacher lost RM838,000 after investing in a fake investment scheme offered via WhatsApp in February. Kedah Commercial Crime Investigation Department head Supt Loi Yew Lik said that after agreeing to participate, the 72-year-old victim's name was added to the "P166 HIFA investment" WhatsApp group. "The victim had dealt with an individual known as Helen via WhatsApp and was then given a link to download an application (PHC VIEW) from 'Pinnacle Horizon Capital' to check the profits received from the investment. "He was promised a return of five times the amount invested within a few days,' he said in a statement on Monday (June 30). He said the victim told police he had deposited a total of RM838,000 via eight transactions to four different bank accounts. "Through the app, the victim saw that he had earned a total 'profit' of RM4.09mil. "However, when he wanted to withdraw the money, various excuses were given, including asking him to make an additional payment,' he said. Supt Loi said the victim then lodged a police report after realising he had been scammed. He advised the public to be wary of online investment scams that use the names of existing investment companies to mislead victims. He added that seven investigation papers had been opened in Kedah over such scams. "The public is advised to check with the police or nearby police stations before making any suspicious transactions. "Checks can also be made via the Semak Mule application, CCID Facebook or by contacting the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC) at 997," he added. – Bernama

Los Angeles is still America's smoggiest city
The iconic skyline of downtown Los Angeles has been clouded by smog for decades, so this title should come as no surprise to Angelenos. Yet again, L.A. is the smoggiest city in the U.S., according to the American Lung Association. The 'State of the Air' report from the association has been handing out grades to American cities based on their air quality for the past 26 years. L.A. has held the top spot for most polluted city by ozone for 25 of those years. VIEW: Los Angeles Air Quality Map The list is weighted based on the average number of unhealthy air days, the association says. Not only is California's largest city on the list, but the Golden State takes five of the top 10 spots. They include Visalia (No. 2), Bakersfield (No. 3), Fresno (No. 5) and San Diego (No. 8). Several counties throughout the state, including L.A., Orange, Ventura, San Bernardino, Riverside and San Diego counties, received 'F' grades from the ALA for their amount of high ozone days. California politicians have made a push to change California's reality as being an example of having poor air conditions. The state has prioritized electric vehicles as the future of travel, with Gov. Gavin Newsom approving massive investments in infrastructure. But clearly, the state has a long way to go in lowering emissions and providing safer air to breath for its residents. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
