VIT-AP felicitates nine unsung heroes to mark Independence Day celebrations
Patriotic fervour swept through schools and colleges across Andhra Pradesh as the nation celebrated its 79th Independence Day on Friday. At VIT-AP University, nine unsung heroes from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), AP State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC), and AP State Disaster Response and Fire Services Department were felicitated for their exemplary service. 'Independence Day is not just a commemoration of freedom; it's a tribute to the courage of countless unsung heroes who built this nation,' said R. L. Narayana, Corporate Vice-President and Location Head (Vizag and Hyderabad) of WNS Global Services Pvt. Ltd., who was the chief guest. The honourees included NDRF head constables N. Gopala Krishna and K. Lokesachari; APSRTC drivers (late) Sk. M. Rasool, (late) Bhaskar, and Muneiah Kanchani; APSRTC conductor M. Venkata Ramana; fireman P. Hema Srikanth Reddy; Station Fire Officer Y. Venkateswarlu; and Assistant District Fire Officer Anjaneyulu Jakkampudi. Each received a memento and ₹25,000 in cash. The event was attended by VIT-AP Vice-Chancellor S. V. Kota Reddy, Registrar M. Jagadish Chandra, and Deputy Director of Student Welfare Sk. Khadeer Pasha, among others. At SRM University–AP, Vice-Chancellor Manok K. Arora unfurled the tricolour and called on students to work towards the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047, stressing economic, social, and environmental sustainability. Sports champions were also honoured. Kunja Ranjita ( first year), who clinched gold in the women's 4×400m relay at the 26th Asian Athletics Championship, received ₹5 lakh. Budde Shanmukhi Naga Sai ( first year), who broke two world records and bagged three silver medals in Compound Archery at the Singapore 2025 Asia Cup (Leg 2), was presented with ₹10 lakh. Non-teaching staff completing five years of service were also recognised. At Delhi Public School, Vijayawada, the campus resonated with both patriotic and devotional spirit as Independence Day coincided with Janmashtami. The celebrations featured a blend of cultural performances and devotional activities. Directors Parimi Pavan Chand, Swetha Bindu, and Kadiyala Praveen Kumar; Academic Director David Raj; Principal M. S. Bhuvaneswaran; and Vice-Principal Sanjay Bhatia joined in the flag-hoisting ceremony.

The Hindu, VIT-AP University launch English language development initiative
Proficiency in English is crucial for excelling in higher education and communicating efficiently on a global scale, said Vice-Chancellor of VIT-AP University S.V. Kota Reddy. He was speaking at 'English Language Development Initiative' jointly launched by The Hindu and VIT-AP University on Saturday at a Zilla Parishad School in Mandadam village of Thullur mandal in Guntur district. 'As English is a vital tool for success in both academic institutions and professional fields, the initiative is launched with an aim to encourage students to learn and master the language to be able to climb the ladder of success in life,' he said. As part of Corporate Social Responsibility (SCR), the University has adopted four Mandal Parishad and two Zilla Parishad schools at Inavolu, Sakhamuru, Velagapudi and Mandadam mandals of Guntur district. The Vice-Chancellor said that the initiative to foster English language development among government school students could focus on improving reading comprehension and knowledge acquisition. This could involve implementing programmes that emphasize foundational literacy skills. He said that the VIT-AP University was actively engaged with rural students helping them hone their skills. He said reading competitions and other activities would be conducted for students on a regular basis. He invited the students to visit the University, which was equipped with modern facilities and labs. He said that to support the advancement of rural students, the institution had been sponsoring toppers (one boy and one girl) from each of the 26 districts across the State, who pursued their Intermediate course in a government junior college. As part of the initiative, faculty from VIT-AP University will impart English language skills to students, who will also receive copies of The Hindu in School weekend magazine and Young World magazine. Registrar M. Jagadeesh Chandra said that the students should take pride in their mother tongue but also give importance to other languages which will help them communicate efficiently with diverse segments of people. He said that English is widely considered a valuable language for achieving life goals due to its global prevalence in communication and education, opening doors to increased career opportunities and cultural understanding. Mandal Education Officer M. Lakshminarayana advised the students to read The Hindu in School and Young World to improve their vocabulary and broaden their horizons.

VIT-AP holds workshop on Mass Spectrometry
Amaravati: VIT-AP University's School of Advanced Sciences has launched a five-day online international workshop on 'Cutting-Edge Techniques in NMR and Mass Spectrometry,' running from July 1 to 5. The global workshop brings together leading scientists, researchers, and industry professionals to delve into both the fundamental principles and advanced applications of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) and Mass Spectrometry. These two analytical techniques are crucial for scientific discovery and innovation across various fields. The inaugural session began with a welcome address by Prof S Srinivas, Dean of the School of Advanced Sciences, who outlined the workshop's objectives. Associate Dean Dr MV Rajanikanth highlighted VIT-AP University's academic programmes in the sciences. Head of the Department of Physics Dr Nagarjuna Neella then introduced the keynote speaker, Prof Woonghee Lee from the University of Colorado, Denver, USA. Dr Dwarasala Adilaksmi hosted the session. Workshop conveners Dr Dripta De Joarder, Dr Ramana Tamminana and Dr Rajarshi Sarkar thanked the university management and all participants for their support, signalling the start of an engaging academic event.

V-Launchpad 2025 concludes at VIT-AP
