Man from Tiruvallur with rare eye disease regains vision after treatment
A government employee from Tiruvallur has regained his sight after six years of complete vision loss after advanced treatment at Rajan Eye Care Hospital.
Diagnosed with Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada (VKH) Syndrome, a rare autoimmune condition that causes severe inflammation in the eyes, Mr. Joseph experienced a progressive decline in vision despite seeking treatment at several private eye hospitals. A press release said the disease had led to multiple complications, including cataracts, posterior and anterior synechiae, macular oedema, and vitritis in both eyes.
Referred by a friend, Mr. Joseph sought help at Rajan Eye Care Hospital, where he was evaluated by Mohan Rajan, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of the institution. He and his team performed complex surgeries on both eyes, each lasting over 90 minutes, to address the cataracts and retinal damage. The surgeries were conducted a month apart to ensure optimal recovery.
Mr. Joseph regained up to 70% of his vision in both eyes, the release said.
